Chapter 27: Bai Lian, the Star Lord Reaches Their Limit! (1)
The moonlight tonight is beautiful.
It feels like the perfect night to recite poetry under the serene glow of the bright moon.
On the spoon-shaped gravel road, Ji Shi’s loose, sagging skin piled up, making it hard to tell whether he was laughing or crying. His eyes, once murky and clouded, seemed to have changed.
When you looked closer, his yellowish-brown irises gave the impression of someone wearing peculiar contact lenses. But now, his gaze was different. It was as though all the dust of the mortal world had been washed away, leaving behind something pure.
Innocence.
Utter, profound innocence.
Ji Shi stepped forward, his innocent eyes reflecting the moonlight as he walked toward the center of the crowd.
The moonlight poured down like a pillar, illuminating his figure and making him seem like a nobleman, free of worldly desires.
Was it truly so?
Ji Shi raised his head and gazed at the vast sky.
There exists a star, the Juyang Star, whose time was marked by the reign of the Juyang Star Lord.
During that era, the Star Lord, possessing both unmatched intellect and strength, carved a unique path to Tao that no one else has been able to replicate!
The Juyang Star Lord charged forward on this path with unstoppable momentum, facing no obstacles in his way.
His title, “Enormous Sun,” symbolized his ambition to shine brighter than any other star in the heavens.
At the height of his power, Juyang Star Lord’s name evoked awe and fear.
As the mighty sun ascends, other stars fade into obscurity.
The Eternal Stele, meant to immortalize the names of Star Lords, was nothing more than a mere seat to him.
But…
“Even the Star Lord has their limits!” Ji Shi’s eyes gleamed with fervor.
No matter how powerful the Juyang Star Lord was, he was still a Star Lord.
He could singlehandedly defeat ten Star Lords, but twenty? That was a different story.
As the old saying goes, “Becoming an Immortal Emperor means you have accomplished everything.”
Yet, Juyang Star Lord met his demise under a relentless siege.
Ji Shi recalled those times vividly. During that fateful war, he had charged forward and delivered the decisive blow to the Juyang Star Lord.
He had slain a Star Lord, a feat that remained his greatest pride.
But his most significant discovery during that battle was not his victory. It was a secret:
[Every Star Lord, no matter how mighty, has a weakness.]
And now, finding Bai Lian’s weak point would allow him to overcome his current predicament and start anew.
—
Ji Shi gripped the astrolabe tightly and began to move, dancing like an old witch as he called out to the Snow Spirit Lord with unwavering determination.
“Stay still! Just a moment longer!”
The Snow Spirit Lord responded by splitting into three forms.
The positions of her avatars formed an incredibly stable triangle, and soon, bright lights surged from the ground.
The earth beneath them glowed like a swaying Milky Way, shimmering under the starlight.
Bai Lian observed the scene.
An old woman, a young woman, and a frail girl on the verge of death…
If the Snow Spirit Lord could conjure another form, she’d be able to play mahjong by herself.
What a pity she couldn’t.
As Bai Lian mused, the turtle she had inadvertently stepped on seemed to relax. It closed its eyes, basking in the starlight.
The light falling onto its back was just what it needed to heal the wound inflicted by the sneaky kelp.
The old turtle had intended to question Bai Lian’s actions, but it decided to wait a bit longer.
“More starlight!” the turtle silently urged.
—
An Lan, who had disguised herself as a reef by the sea, chose to remain hidden.
“Are you really seeking the Ancient Starry Sky Road? What if it truly exists?”
If the road was real, it would be her ticket back to the Immortal World. She was confident that once she returned, it wouldn’t take long to regain her original strength and exact revenge on her betrayer.
And then…
Mmm. Bai Lian will become my maidservant.
Yes, a trusted attendant by my bedside.
Even as a maid, Bai Lian’s position would carry immense prestige. Celestial Immortals wouldn’t dare encroach upon her domain, let alone defy her authority.
Bai Lian would surely feel honored.
After all, she was my talented disciple in this mortal world.
It wouldn’t be too much trouble to help Bai Lian become a fully-fledged Star Lord, ensuring she stays by my side forever.
Yes. That’s the plan.
An Lan’s thoughts brimmed with excitement as she surveyed her surroundings.
—
Suddenly, the scattered runes on the ground began to light up.
White light surged like gusts from a hurricane, only to be overwhelmed moments later by a flood of purple light.
The moon was swallowed entirely, but the sea did not plunge into darkness.
Instead, countless stars replaced the moon, shining brilliantly.
It was as if the moon had shattered into countless pieces, its fragments scattered across the sky.
The starry river glimmered with a brightness even Bai Lian’s paintings of Stars and Moon couldn’t capture.
This was the Milky Way itself, projected onto the heavens.
Ji Shi’s astrolabe ascended into the sky as he called out, his voice firm yet pleading.
“Fairy Bai Lian, would you kindly release your Divine Sense to control the astrolabe?”
Bai Lian gave a silent nod.
From her careful observation, the magic array and the astrolabe seemed to be functioning as intended.
There was no reason for alarm—for now.
Taking a deep breath, she released her Divine Sense, allowing it to roam through the endless expanse of star-filled skies. She guided its flow with the astrolabe, navigating the vast celestial realm unfolding before her.
Meanwhile, the Snow Spirit Lord kept her focus entirely on Ji Shi. His movements were meticulous, his hands tirelessly etching new runes onto the magic array. The faint glow of his Spirit Qi spread like ripples, seeping into the array and bringing it to life.
This was the moment the Snow Spirit Lord had been waiting for—yearning for, even.
Her heart wavered between excitement and unease, the possibility of failure haunting her thoughts. Yet every time her resolve wavered, her gaze shifted to Bai Lian.
The sight of Bai Lian standing resolutely by her side brought her solace, an anchor in the storm of uncertainty.
Comforted by this shared purpose, she set her fears aside.
Ji Shi, engrossed in his task, bent over the gravel path shaped like a spoon. The final rune was within reach, his movements precise, deliberate.
And then—he stopped.
Slowly, almost deliberately, Ji Shi turned around.
His eyes…
The Snow Spirit Lord’s breath hitched. A chill coursed through her body, her instincts screaming danger.
Unconsciously, she took a step back.
