Chapter 26: Of Masters and Their Filial Disciples (2)
Bai Lian sat engrossed in her book.
She is indeed worthy of being my disciple—earnest and eager in her pursuit of knowledge!
An Lan, observing her quietly, found no trace of injury on Bai Lian’s body.
Since she is unhurt, there is no reason for me to be overly concerned about her well-being.
“Although the process was arduous, the result was favorable!”
Under normal circumstances, An Lan wouldn’t have ventured all the way to the Snow Sea just to find Bai Lian. After all, she had more pressing priorities—like catching up on sleep!
This time, however, guilt had driven her here. There was no other reason.
But why did things come to this?
Before leaving, Bai Lian had promised her in the library that she would search for Immortal Spirit Qi to heal her wounds.
If she hadn’t pretended to be injured, Bai Lian wouldn’t have ventured out. If Bai Lian hadn’t gone out, she wouldn’t have ended up in danger.
This was clearly tied to her, and she couldn’t just ignore it.
An Lan scrutinized the situation intently.
Even so, she couldn’t suppress a faint sense of discomfort.
While Bai Lian enjoyed the warmth of the house, she herself had been freezing out in the snow.
Damn it. You rebellious disciple! You must be filial to your master in the future, or else I’ll be furious!
An Lan clenched her fist tightly, trying to bury her indignation.
—
An Lan turned her attention to the snow-covered scenery, a serene expression settling on her face. Nearby, the giant turtle gazed at the bamboo forest in silence.
The moonlight cast a silver sheen over the undulating coastline.
The turtle raised its head so high it startled a pack of wolves passing by, causing them to scatter in fear.
“Perhaps I should keep a lower profile,” the turtle mused, and with that thought, it withdrew its head.
The urge to follow An Lan inside and witness what was happening tempted the turtle. However, its massive size made that impossible.
If it recklessly barged into the forest, it would undoubtedly destroy the magical array and draw unwanted attention from the people inside.
It was better to stay discreet.
It swiftly devoured a nearby island in a single gulp, then swam back to its original position and camouflaged itself to resemble the island it had consumed.
The turtle was a master of this skill.
By keeping its head hidden, even a cultivator at the Transmigration Stage standing right next to it wouldn’t detect anything unusual.
After all, it was just a turtle.
—
The night deepened.
Dawn was fast approaching.
As the first hints of morning light brushed the bamboo forest, silence finally gave way to activity.
Bai Lian put her book away, sensing a familiar aura in the air.
From the stone path emerged the grim-faced young woman and the expressionless Ji Shi.
Trailing behind them was an elderly woman who appeared to be in her sixties.
“It’s ready,” the young woman announced as she entered the room.
Ji Shi smiled faintly. “Fairy Bai Lian, please come with me.”
His voice carried a note of distraction, as if his mind was elsewhere.
“Where are we going?” Bai Lian asked cautiously.
“We’re heading to the sea. The astrolabe works best there,” Ji Shi explained.
“Alright,” Bai Lian replied, though a flicker of doubt lingered in her mind.
She found herself surrounded by four people, unable to speak further.
Walking beside the young woman, she asked, “What should I call you?”
“You may address me as Snow Spirit Lord,” the young woman replied.
Bai Lian nodded, her gaze drifting toward the elderly woman who had appeared moments earlier.
The Snow Spirit Lord spoke again, her tone calm and measured. “She, like me, is also under my control.”
Bai Lian’s eyes widened slightly in understanding.
So this is the person who used the Modeling Heaven and Earth skill!
The might of Wuheng Snow Valley was truly impressive. If they had possessed an immortal weapon, they might have already dominated the entire Snow Sea.
This thought made Bai Lian increasingly curious about the extent of Tong Yao’s power after she becomes the “Empress.” In the game, Tong Yao had single-handedly crushed Wuheng Snow Valley, forcing them to retreat to the East Divine Land.
—
Bai Lian followed Ji Shi through the bamboo forest with ease.
The valley, narrow and winding, was nestled between two towering peaks.
After traveling eastward for several miles, the mountains began to recede, and the blanket of snow gradually melted away.
Under the cover of darkness, waves crashed relentlessly against the towering cliffs.
In the distance, Bai Lian spotted an island sparsely covered with vegetation.
“That’s our destination,” the Snow Spirit Lord stated, gesturing toward the island.
Bai Lian frowned slightly.
She sensed no fluctuation of Spirit Qi on the island.
Did they not make any prior preparations?
It seemed the Snow Spirit Lord and Ji Shi had acted hastily.
Her curiosity deepened.
At first, both had appeared composed, but the attack from Hades Hall had clearly unsettled them.
—
Breaking the silence, the Snow Spirit Lord spoke. “Fairy Bai Lian, please rest here for now. I’ll call you once everything is ready.”
Bai Lian nodded without a word.
The Snow Spirit Lord escorted the elderly woman and Ji Shi to the island, leaving behind a puppet version of herself to watch over Bai Lian.
Are you worried I’ll run away? Bai Lian mused with a faint smile.
How could she possibly escape when she was merely a novice at the Soul Changing Stage?
She sat down on a nearby stone pillar, observing the scene quietly.
Under the moonlight, the Snow Spirit Lord and Ji Shi sprinkled various materials across the island.
Bai Lian soon realized they were constructing a magic array.
At its center lay a peculiar Spirit Tool that bore a striking resemblance to the Space-time Compass An Lan had gifted her.
—
About half an hour later, the Snow Spirit Lord’s voice called out.
New task options appeared before Bai Lian:
1. Turn around and flee (Reward: Hard Skill +12)
2. Confess that you’re not the reincarnation of any Star Lord (Reward: World Wood)
3. There’s no going back—move forward! (Reward: Fu Zhu Special Effect)
Bai Lian stared at the options, speechless.
Task 3 is the easiest? But what on earth is this reward?
The Fu Zhu Special Effect?
According to the Mountain and Sea Scriptures, Fu Zhu was a mythical creature resembling a white deer with four horns. Its appearance signified an impending flood.
Damn it! It’s just another Special Effect!
Bai Lian already had three Special Effects.
The Water Spirit Special Effect caused her the least trouble, while the Tao Halo and Yaoguang Special Effects made her appear like a Natural Saint and the reincarnation of a Star Lord, respectively.
What chaos will this new effect bring me?
Still, Bai Lian didn’t dare to choose any of the other tasks.
With trembling lips, she selected Task 3.
Moments later, her character panel updated with the new Special Effect.
System, you are truly merciless!
Bai Lian followed the Snow Spirit Lord onto the island, maintaining a dignified demeanor despite her inner turmoil.
—
Meanwhile, the 100,000-year-old turtle hidden nearby was utterly shocked.
That… That… That!
Isn’t that the person whose entire body is covered in words of “Death”?
Initially, the turtle had assumed this description was an exaggeration—perhaps she was merely surrounded by a few “Death” words.
But now, it realized it had been gravely mistaken.
This woman was like a walking embodiment of death itself, draped in an unrelenting armor of doom!
