Chapter 26: Of Masters and Their Filial Disciples (1)
Bai Lian felt that she shouldn’t agree to anything immediately.
If she did, it would give people the impression that she was naive, easily swayed, and easily fooled.
This was not in line with the image she had carefully built over time.
She decided to take her time with the decision.
For instance, she could say, “That’s a good proposal. I’ll definitely consider it.”
However, as soon as she spoke, the Snow Spirit Lord’s concern became apparent.
“You only have half an hour to consider!”
The Snow Spirit Lord resembled a white cat with its tail bitten—she looked ready to jump up and scratch Bai Lian’s chest.
Huh?
Bai Lian was taken aback.
What’s her rush?
If one rushes into things without proper preparation, the path ahead becomes difficult, and success becomes harder to achieve. Doesn’t she agree?
“Is there really a time limit for finding the Ancient Starry Sky Road?” Bai Lian wondered aloud.
“That’s none of your concern!”
The Snow Spirit Lord’s tone became curt.
When Bai Lian caught her gaze, the Snow Spirit Lord quickly averted her eyes and stared out the window.
After a brief silence, the Snow Spirit Lord spoke again, “Fairy Bai Lian, the Immortal Spirit Qi is not something you come across easily. I also happen to possess a top-grade Immortal Spirit Stone. Letting this opportunity slip might mean we won’t get another chance.”
Bai Lian smiled and nodded in agreement.
She noticed a faint white mist seeping from the Snow Spirit Lord’s nose, her impatience almost palpable.
The emotion was evident—there was a perfect word to describe her current mood…
Hmph!
Bai Lian crossed her arms and gently lifted her chin.
Though she appeared to be deep in thought, she was actually observing the Snow Spirit Lord’s profile.
At that moment, the Snow Spirit Lord slid her hands into her billowing sleeves.
Bai Lian took a closer look.
Despite the ice-white veil covering her face, Bai Lian could still see that the Snow Spirit Lord was beautiful—though of course, she believed that her own beauty outshone the Snow Spirit Lord’s.
This beauty exuded an aura of detachment, as though she existed far above the mundane.
From her attire to her elegance, the Snow Spirit Lord was undoubtedly a young woman.
Yet, her tone of voice held a strange girlish quality.
Young mother?
That wasn’t exactly right either.
Time passed, and Bai Lian’s thoughts wandered.
The Snow Spirit Lord adjusted her posture every so often, as though she were a needle growing on a stool.
Bai Lian even began to wonder if she had a special switch to make the Snow Spirit Lord angry enough to “eat” her!
Deciding it was time to make a move, Bai Lian placed her right hand firmly on the table, creating a loud noise.
The Snow Spirit Lord immediately turned, as if she had received a command from her master.
Bai Lian responded slowly, agreeing to cooperate.
A smile lit up the Snow Spirit Lord’s eyes as she clenched her fist tightly inside her sleeve, like a child receiving candy.
Bai Lian paused, then repeated, “But…”
The Snow Spirit Lord furrowed her brows.
“Before we cooperate, I have a question,” Bai Lian said.
“What’s the problem?”
“Why must I join when Ji Shi, who is also a reincarnation of an Immortal, could suffice?” Bai Lian asked.
The Snow Spirit Lord explained, “Fairy Bai Lian, you were a powerful Star Lord in your past life. With your assistance, our chances of success will improve significantly.”
Way out?
The Ancient Starry Sky Road?
By the way, the Snow Spirit Lord had lived in the Snow Sea for many years. Was she nearing the end of her life? Was she planning to go to the Immortal World to extend it?
The Snow Spirit Lord would be disappointed if she knew Bai Lian wasn’t the reincarnation of any Immortal.
Bai Lian nodded and asked, “What do I need to do now?”
“Fairy Bai Lian, for now, you don’t need to do anything. I’ll call upon you when necessary,” said the Snow Spirit Lord.
“That’s great!”
Bai Lian leaned back into the bamboo chair and picked up the book from the table again.
As the Snow Spirit Lord closed her eyes to rest, Bai Lian remained silent.
The night was eerily quiet.
Occasionally, snowballs would fall from the bamboo branches, making a clattering sound.
There were no birds around to be startled into flight by the sound.
In the bitterly cold Snow Sea, a pile of snow on the ground suddenly sprang to life.
It was like a startled rabbit leaping up.
An Lan emerged from beneath the snow, which had been pushed away.
Finding Bai Lian had not been easy for her.
She had wandered outside the Wuheng Snow Valley, thinking of how best to find Bai Lian, when the Lord of Hades Hall and his men appeared.
To avoid being detected, she disguised herself as a snowman, with only half of her body visible.
The Lord of Hades Hall was engaged in a fight with a tall “gorilla” just outside the Wuheng Snow Valley.
At that moment, An Lan noticed a woman discreetly leaving the battlefield.
Curious, An Lan followed.
She journeyed through mountains and valleys, eventually reaching a dense bamboo forest.
A powerful triple magic array guarded the area, thick and formidable.
An Lan spent a long time carefully avoiding its detection.
It was a dangerous task, one that nearly made her falter.
But her effort paid off when she finally found Bai Lian!
An Lan’s mood was: ─=≡Σ(((つ•̀ω•́)つ
But she resisted the urge to rush out: _ (° ω °」∠)_
She crawled forward.
To avoid exposure, An Lan shut off her Divine Sense.
After choosing a good hiding place, she perked up her ears and began eavesdropping.
When she learned that Bai Lian had come to acquire the Immortal Spirit Stone, An Lan didn’t smile.
“It seems Bai Lian is safe for now,” An Lan thought.
Soon after, the conversation in the bamboo room came to a close.
Pata pata.
An Lan made a deliberate effort to brush the snow off her body.
After adjusting herself, she laid face down in the snow, reoriented herself, and focused her gaze on the bamboo house deep within the forest.
Great!
From this angle, the window was barely visible.
An Lan nodded in approval, satisfied.
She would keep a close eye on it.
She stared!
She kept watching!
The first thing An Lan saw was the back of the Snow Spirit Lord—her long black hair dominating the view.
“How dare she block me from seeing if Bai Lian is injured!”
Gritting her teeth, An Lan was tempted to charge toward the Snow Spirit Lord and unleash the full wrath of the “Heavenly Lord.”
But she held herself back.
Her self-control was high, and as an adult, she knew she needed to stay composed.
If she rushed out recklessly now, it would be like telling Bai Lian, “Your master is foolish and lied to you!”
That was not an option.
If she acted that way, she would lose her dignity in front of Bai Lian!
Luckily, the Snow Spirit Lord soon stood up, adjusting her posture and gazing at the moon.
This allowed An Lan the opportunity to catch a glimpse of Bai Lian.
