Chapter 20: Will You Be My Daughter? (2)
Bai Lian asked, “Are you the famous Lord of the Hades Hall?”
“Yes,” the Lord of the Hades Hall replied with a smile, his gaze gentle and calm.
There was an air of satisfaction in both his expression and tone.
“I am not your daughter,” Bai Lian stated firmly. “The man in black mentioned your daughter and claimed to be searching for her on your behalf. My purpose for coming to the Snow Sea is solely to seek Immortal Spirit Qi.”
The Lord of the Hades Hall remained composed, though his eyes held a hint of intrigue.
“Do you truly know?” he asked, shaking his head slightly.
“I don’t know,” Bai Lian replied internally. I’m a world traveler from Earth!
Naturally, she wouldn’t say that aloud. Instead, she opted for a more pragmatic approach.
“I recently turned 19 years old. May I ask how old the third lady you’re seeking is?”
Martial Sister Tong Yao, the supposed daughter of the Lord of the Hades Hall, was said to be only fifteen this year.
The Lord of the Hades Hall turned his gaze toward the empty hall, his expression softening as though recalling a cherished memory.
“That year…”
He began his tale. After mastering the Nether Disaster Seal, he felt a surge of confidence and battled the Snow Spirit Lord in Hengshui Valley. Unfortunately, the Snow Spirit Lord’s power far exceeded his expectations, and he barely escaped with his life.
As he fled westward, a female cultivator saved him from danger.
And then, they fell in love.
“On that day…”
The snowstorm raged outside, but they were warm within the small shelter. She lay down while he remained by her side, their hearts beating in unison.
When spring arrived and the ice melted, the Lord of the Hades Hall departed the mountain forest and returned to his responsibilities.
“I didn’t realize she was carrying my child until the following year. But by then, she had already left, leaving only a letter behind,” he said sorrowfully.
Bai Lian’s patience was wearing thin.
Why are you telling me your tragic love story? Just give me the facts!
“That was twenty-two years ago,” the Lord of the Hades Hall continued. “In the letter, she mentioned sealing our child with Bailing Spirit Stones. I don’t know when the child was released… Sigh.”
He sighed deeply. “I am such a worthless father. I don’t even know how old my child is now.”
“…”
Bai Lian was stunned. Wait, what?
If his child was born twenty-two years ago, that would make Tong Yao 21 years old, two years older than Bai Lian herself.
But that wasn’t the issue at hand.
The real problem was that she couldn’t convince the Lord of the Hades Hall that she wasn’t his daughter.
Time for Plan B!
With newfound determination, Bai Lian nodded. “I understand. It’s a touching story, but it doesn’t prove that I am your child.”
“If you have a way to confirm this, I’m happy to try,” she added, a hint of impatience in her tone.
The Lord of the Hades Hall smiled knowingly.
“Of course, there’s a simple way to verify this.”
He raised his hand, and a red light flashed. The ice behind him melted away, revealing a black stone carving with a ghostly face etched into its surface.
“If your blood can activate the Black Stone Ghost Face, it will confirm that you possess my exclusive nether bloodline!”
“Then I’ll try,” Bai Lian said confidently.
She appreciated the straightforwardness of this test.
Nether bloodline? Bai Lian doubted she had anything of the sort. Her water-type Spiritual Root was ordinary.
If this so-called Black Stone Ghost Face could give her a nether bloodline, she’d welcome the surprise.
Approaching the stone, she pricked her finger and allowed a single drop of blood to fall onto the ghostly face.
The droplet landed on its forehead.
For a moment, time seemed to freeze.
The Lord of the Hades Hall grew visibly tense. Having ruled the Hades Hall for nearly two centuries, he had never been this nervous—not even during his battle with the Snow Spirit Lord.
If Bai Lian is my daughter…
He didn’t dare to finish the thought.
Finally, the blood soaked into the ghostly face. The black stone turned red, and the ghostly face quivered.
But then, it stopped.
“…”
The Lord of the Hades Hall stood frozen in disbelief.
Not activated?
“This…”
His expectations shattered, leaving his mind blank.
Bai Lian, on the other hand, clapped her hands together.
“I told you, I’m not your—”
Before she could finish, the Red Stone Ghost Face suddenly rose into the air.
With a loud crack, it shattered into countless fragments, flooding the Ice Palace with a crimson light.
The light spread like wildfire, painting the skies and clouds in a deep red hue.
The Hades Hall transformed into a dazzling prison of Shura blood.
Bai Lian stood stunned.
The Lord of the Hades Hall was equally dumbfounded.
How could this be?
The bloodline was far too powerful—far stronger than anything he had ever encountered.
Laughter bubbled up in his chest as realization dawned.
“Bai Lian, will you be my daughter?” he shouted toward the heavens.
