Chapter 20: Will You Be My Daughter? (1)
The man in black was often impulsive.
When his demands weren’t met, he preferred to use force.
His [Field], meticulously crafted over years of cultivation, distorted his target’s perception, making it easier to assert his dominance. It was almost like a “Time Stopper.”
Though time didn’t truly stop, for those trapped within, it crawled at a pace ten million times slower.
To escape such a domain, one needed a soul stronger than his or unparalleled expertise in soul studies. Alternatively, magical instruments specifically designed to shatter illusions could provide an escape.
Without these, resistance was futile. The victim could do nothing but submit.
—
In this chaotic space, the man in black reigned supreme.
His captives, reduced to meek, unresisting figures, were nothing more than motionless dolls.
And in this domain, he could act with impunity.
This power earned him fearsome titles across the Snow Sea: “Black Ghost,” “Dream Tapir,” and “Soul Shepherd.”
“Third Lady, it is time to leave!”
A hoarse voice suddenly echoed through the restaurant lobby, followed by a sharp gust of black wind.
The man in black intended to use the wind to whisk Bai Lian away.
—
But just as the black winds closed in, Bai Lian—previously immobilized—stepped back, slipping through the narrowing gap.
That was close.
Her silver-gray eyes glimmered faintly as she cast [See Through Vacuity].
Even so, she couldn’t completely counter the [Field’s] effects.
Dealing with this man wasn’t going to be easy.
Not only was he powerful, but his penchant for surprise attacks made him particularly troublesome.
—
“…?”
The man in black paused.
He had been certain that Bai Lian’s soul strength was inferior to his own, yet she had managed to break free.
Though it was only for a moment and he hadn’t used his full strength, her escape intrigued him.
“Hahaha.”
Under the black fog, a feral grin spread across his weathered face.
The Lord of the Hades Hall was truly blessed.
—
Bai Lian’s ability to control countless ghosts was proof of her pure Nether Bloodline.
Once she mastered the Hades Hall’s inheritance, she would be unstoppable.
With her unique gifts, combined with the reincarnated Star Lord and Natural Saint buffs, the Snow Sea and all of Northern Luzhou would inevitably bow to her.
The Duxian Sect? They weren’t worthy of such a prodigious disciple!
The man in black didn’t care about offending them.
After all, compared to the might of the Hades Hall, the Duxian Sect was insignificant.
—
Chains of energy materialized suddenly, encircling Bai Lian in a colorless void visible only through her [See Through Vacuity] spell.
She tried to evade them, but the reinforced [Field] slowed her movements like a quagmire.
It was too late.
Clink.
One chain wrapped around her soul fire. Others soon followed, forming a cage that sealed her inescapably.
“I told you, I’m NOT the third lady of the Hades Hall! Do you understand me?!”
Her protests went unheeded.
—
The restaurant lobby darkened as black patterns spread across the floor.
Lines of energy connected, and before she realized it, Bai Lian was engulfed in thick, oppressive clouds.
She could just barely make out the faint silhouette of an ice palace shimmering beyond the haze.
“That’s the Hall of Hades,” the man in black remarked flatly.
—
“…”
It was over.
Her heart sank.
The Hades Hall was no ordinary sect.
They meddled in the nether world constantly, and their members—at least six out of ten—seemed to suffer from some kind of mental instability.
The task reward confirmed her fears: this would be no peaceful journey.
But what worried her most wasn’t her impending fate.
Her thoughts were consumed by Younger Martial Sister Tong Yao.
—
Tong Yao, though prodigiously talented, was far from invincible.
In the serene East Divine Land, she was safe as long as she didn’t go around declaring herself “the strongest in the world.”
But Northern Luzhou was a different story.
In this lawless land, cultivators killed and plundered without hesitation.
The number of “Red-Name Monsters” here far exceeded those in the East Divine Land.
Simply crossing paths with another cultivator could lead to deadly consequences.
—
“If Tong Yao realizes I’m gone, she’ll panic,” Bai Lian thought, anxiety gnawing at her.
“She’s the type to rush out recklessly, and if something happens to her…”
She clenched her fists.
Master Qin would be heartbroken.
And if the Lord of the Hades Hall discovered the truth, he might just decapitate her and use her head as a wine cup!
“I really…”
—
“Here we are!”
The man in black rudely interrupted her thoughts.
Guided by a trail of light, Bai Lian arrived at a grand hall adorned with cloud patterns and the faint scent of osmanthus.
At the hall’s center stood a towering black throne.
Slowly, a figure rose from it.
The Lord of the Hades Hall descended the steps with a deliberate, measured pace.
“Bai Lian,” he said, his tone calm and certain.
He had been informed of everything beforehand.
—
The man in black bowed deeply.
“My Lord, I will take my leave now.”
With a subtle nod from the Lord of the Hades Hall, the man in black vanished as though erased from existence.
Now, only Bai Lian and the Lord of the Hades Hall remained.
Surely, this was her chance to explain everything.
