Chapter 14: My Daughter Is All Grown Up (1)
—
Thirty minutes ago.
A turbulent void stretched endlessly, filled with strange, surreal scenes.
Marquis Wu’an’s eyes flickered with the strange symbols reflected in the light of the Space-time Compass hanging in front of his carriage.
It seemed he had already put considerable distance between himself and the Duxian Sect.
Marquis Wu’an let out a soft sigh of relief, but his face quickly regained its usual composure.
The destruction of Canglong Garden had left no room for reconciliation between him and Bai Lian or Yu Ying.
Marquis Wu’an asked himself inwardly, “Do I regret it?”
He shook his head.
There was nothing to regret.
As long as they continued to move forward, forging a broader path, they would inevitably attract adversaries. Bai Lian was not the first, nor would she be the last.
In fact, this situation was beneficial—it revealed his opponent.
This world was absurdly unpredictable. For instance, while walking along a road, he could stumble upon a group of enemies who might ambush him without warning.
If such a thing occurred, he wouldn’t have anyone to complain to.
His only regret was that despite occupying Canglong Garden for more than a decade, he had failed to obtain the black dragon’s blood, a key element for advancing the “Saint Casting Plan.”
—
“Why haven’t we reached our destination yet?”
Marquis Wu’an frowned as he glanced around.
It was eerily quiet.
The silence was so absolute that he couldn’t even hear the sound of his own heartbeat.
As he surveyed the surroundings, he noticed the once chaotic space turbulence had become strangely still—like a motionless ink painting.
Except for himself, there was no one else within the void.
The Shadow Guards who had been accompanying him… Where had they gone?
A sense of foreboding swept over him.
—
“They have all perished.”
A woman’s voice resonated in his ears, cold and unwavering.
Startled, Marquis Wu’an turned to his left.
Before he could clearly see her, a sharp, cold white light emerged out of nowhere, striking him violently at the waist.
Poof!
Flesh was torn apart as blood splattered in all directions.
The white light pierced through the wound, shredding his kidneys and mangling his intestines before vanishing.
The impact sent Marquis Wu’an flying out of the carriage, writhing in excruciating pain.
—
Marquis Wu’an instantly realized that if he continued to face this woman head-on, it would lead to his death.
There was no time to hesitate.
In a desperate move, he summoned thousands of seal characters, scattering them in all directions.
Bathed in a fiery red glow, Marquis Wu’an tore open a rift in space with his bare hands, smeared with blood.
Like a panicked rodent, he fled into the tear.
—
“He’s fast.”
An Lan appeared suddenly, watching his hasty retreat with disdain.
She was tempted to hurl a sarcastic remark but refrained—Marquis Wu’an had fled too quickly.
That escape… It looked far too practiced.
An Lan pouted.
She had no intention of pursuing him further. It would be better to let her foolish fourth disciple handle him directly.
As Marquis Wu’an vanished, the seal characters he left behind exploded simultaneously, illuminating the turbulent void like grand fireworks.
An Lan approached the carriage, now adrift in the silent chaos.
It was unimpressive.
After forcefully extracting the Space-time Compass, its most valuable component, she crushed the carriage into a heap of twisted metal.
“Please hand this compass to Bai Lian.”
With a satisfied smile, An Lan returned to the Duxian Sect.
—
At the mountain gate, chaos raged.
The Blood Tree Patriarch, now many times his usual size, was venting his fury without restraint.
His blood-colored cane lashed out like a shooting tentacle, striking down intruders repeatedly.
These weren’t simple strikes or punctures.
The layered toxins made the victims feel as though tens of thousands of ants were crawling over their bodies—a torment so unbearable that some began to faint.
—
“I… I’m going to… to pass out!”
Yes, it was painful.
This was their punishment.
Anger seethed within the Blood Tree Patriarch. Without reinforcements, he would have been overrun by now.
As he lashed out at the intruders, he noticed An Lan passing by quietly.
—
Before she could enter the mountain, the Blood Tree Patriarch called out to her.
“What is it?” An Lan asked, turning her head slightly.
The Blood Tree Patriarch hesitated before responding.
“It’s about Bai Lian.”
Hearing that name, An Lan immediately perked up her ears.
“Bai Lian hasn’t told you,” the Patriarch began, recounting his earlier conversation with Si Yunshang. “That girl practices a form of demon cultivation. But her devotion to Bai Lian is admirable.”
He sighed deeply.
“Bai Lian has grown.”
—
An Lan’s expression flickered.
She wanted to say something but held her tongue.
Well, well!
It wasn’t surprising. She had long noticed Si Yunshang’s peculiar gaze toward Bai Lian.
This woman clearly harbored deep feelings for her disciple.
No way.
An Lan firmly disagreed.
Bai Lian is… my eldest disciple. She’s like a daughter to me. My daughter has grown up, and I won’t hand her over to anyone!
An Lan quickly bid farewell to the Blood Tree Patriarch.
Without hesitation, she extended her Divine Sense, scanning for Bai Lian’s location. Her search led her to a quiet spot within the woods, where Bai Lian and Si Yunshang appeared to be engrossed in a silent conversation.
Her eyes narrowed.
Is this a sneak attack?
The realization hit her, and a surge of anger coursed through her veins.
I am really furious!
