Chapter 12: “Is all of this worth it?” (2)
She felt as though she had been dragged into the depths of mud. Despite having all eight gates of her cultivation base opened, she moved as sluggishly as a snail.
Are they doing this just to make Si Yunshang the successor?
“Darn it!”
Sweat trickled down her face as anxiety gripped her. Helpless, she could only watch as a dark shadow darted toward Si Yunshang’s neck.
When the head was severed, blood would spray high into the air.
A strange idea flickered through the eldest princess’s mind, but before she could act, the shadow suddenly changed direction.
It shifted at a sharp 45-degree angle.
At first, its movement was slow, almost deliberate, but then it accelerated rapidly, streaking past Si Yunshang.
The target was still Bai Lian.
Si Yunshang exclaimed, “!”.
The eldest princess exclaimed, “!”.
Even An Lan’s face went pale.
No matter how much she had mastered her spells, her abilities were limited so long as she had not reached the Immortal stage.
“Sharpness of the Immortal!”
An Lan’s soft shout carried a cold sharpness, like a lance descending from the heavens.
The sky, once clear, darkened ominously. Lightning streaked across the heavens, flames surged, and gusts of wind howled, creating a scene that seemed torn from the end of days.
“Is someone attempting to overcome their tribulation?”
Xia Guiyuan gazed at the apocalyptic sky in astonishment.
An Lan had anticipated the worst.
She intended to reach Bai Lian using the “Thousands of Flowers” spell, but it was far too slow.
There was no alternative.
If her Immortal Sharpness failed to intercept the mirror spirit, she would have to break the seal on her body immediately.
With the seal released, she would attain the Human Immortal stage, granting her the power to obliterate the mirror spirit with a single glance.
As for the consequences…
An Lan didn’t dwell on them.
It wasn’t a calculated decision.
She simply couldn’t stand idly by and watch Bai Lian die before her eyes.
What the hell!
Bai Lian was just as stunned.
She hadn’t expected the mirror spirit to be so cunning.
Yet, the spirit had made a critical mistake.
As a being formed from countless malevolent ghosts, the mirror spirit was akin to other malicious entities and vengeful spirits.
If it had been at its peak, Bai Lian might have worried that her Innocent Heart technique wouldn’t suffice.
But now, in its weakened state, it was no match for her.
“Want to possess my body?
Come on.
I’ll just stand here and let you in!”
But what happened next left Bai Lian speechless. Her mouth hung open in disbelief.
First, Si Yunshang rushed toward her, but before she could reach out to help, the eldest princess appeared.
What truly terrified Bai Lian, though, was Shifu’s behavior.
Summoning the sealed Heavenly Lord’s lance should have been more than enough. Why was Shifu suddenly trying to overcome her disaster?
Scenes from the game flashed through Bai Lian’s mind in a frantic blur.
She understood the consequences of An Lan’s actions.
Dead.
No exceptions.
In the game, if An Lan removed the seal and regained her full strength, only one outcome was possible—
She would be crushed by the sudden appearance of a wheel, leaving only a drop of blood behind.
Even if An Lan were revived through her blood, the “resurrected” An Lan would be an entirely new being, a mere reflection of the original.
Bai Lian couldn’t accept that outcome, especially if it was the result of her own actions.
Thinking quickly, she called out, “Shifu, I’m okay!”
Her words flew from her lips faster than ever before.
Without hesitation, she hurled herself toward An Lan, determined to disrupt her rhythm.
Just as Bai Lian leaped forward, another small black figure shoved its way in.
It was the inner demon.
The inner demon cared for Bai Lian more than anyone else.
When the mirror spirit appeared from the Yin Yuan Immortal Mirror, the demon rushed out of the cave, clutching the Ten Thousand Poison Pearl tightly.
Bai Lian, her elder Martial Sister, had saved her.
Bai Lian, her elder Martial Sister, had given her the strength to keep going.
Thanks to Bai Lian, the elder Martial Sister, the demon was able to fulfill her wishes.
Anyone who threatened Bai Lian—no matter who they were, even Su Youwei—became her enemy.
Though not the fastest, the inner demon managed to block the mirror spirit’s attack for Bai Lian.
Buzz!
The mirror spirit collided with the Ten Thousand Poison Pearl, its head shattering with a violent tremor.
Black ripples rippled through the air.
The red-eyed inner demon seized the mirror spirit by the neck, her focus fixed solely on her target.
The surroundings faded into nothingness. The only thing that mattered was that this creature was trying to steal her Elder Martial Sister’s body.
Without hesitation, the inner demon unleashed her killing intent.
She formed a bloodied blade from her wrath and began stabbing the mirror spirit mercilessly.
“I’ll kill you! I’ll kill you!”
Her voice rang out, but her eyes were glazed, a veil of blood clouding her vision.
The surrounding onlookers were struck silent with awe.
An Lan, seeing the situation unfold, stopped her attempt to release the seal. The ominous clouds in the sky dissipated without a sound, but no one noticed.
The mirror spirit shattered into nothingness, yet the inner demon kept repeating her violent motions.
Bai Lian watched the scene in a daze.
Is this really worth it?
Her mind briefly drifted to Si Yunshang, her third junior sister…
Had she really paid so little attention to this?
Her gaze fell to her hands.
Finally, Bai Lian stepped forward and gently wrapped her arms around the inner demon from behind.
“Younger Martial Sister, calm down. I’m okay. Truly, I’m okay.”
Gradually, the inner demon’s violent actions slowed. Her enraged cries faded, and the blood cleared from her eyes.
Then, the demon transformed into a stream of energy and slipped back into the Ten Thousand Poison Pearl.
Bai Lian held the pearl carefully, her heart heavy.
Yes.
In that moment, she felt warmth return to her body.
