Chapter 10: Our Outburst of Fury! (1)
Facts have repeatedly shown that elevating one’s buttocks is an undesirable behavior.
This will only expose your vulnerabilities!
Bai Lian regretted it now.
“Stay away from here!” she shouted.
When she had arrogantly shaken her hips, pretending to be weak, it had seemed to completely infuriate the dark female ghosts. She had drawn their attention, and now, as if in retaliation, a black “tentacle” reached for her. It multiplied into seven after her provocative gesture.
Hula—
The world reflected by the Yin Yuan Immortal Mirror was quickly engulfed in surging black fog.
One after another, the “tentacles” emerged from the mist, relentlessly lashing out at Bai Lian’s body.
Pappa!
Bai Lian flinched, a cold fear running through her. Despite the protection of her Glass Heart, which shielded her from harm, she wasn’t sure if it had any limits. If it were to break… would she fall into evil?
No way.
Shivering, Bai Lian took a hesitant step back.
Female ghosts, fight me one at a time! she mentally challenged.
But the ghosts only responded with a horrifying “Jie Jie Jie” laugh.
Mu Yisheng, watching from outside the mirror, smiled.
Great!
It seemed Bai Lian’s resolve was cracking. Soon, the violent female ghosts would tear through her defenses, driving her to madness.
“What have you done to Bai Lian, you bastard?” Gaoyi shouted, his voice filled with fury as he looked toward Mu Yisheng from the sky.
At that moment, he noticed something: Bai Lian was struggling to remain upright, swaying unsteadily.
Hum.
Mu Yisheng gave a cold grunt, drawing a short knife—its blade so thin it was almost like a butterfly’s wing—and gently placing it against Bai Lian’s neck.
Why shout? Once Bai Lian is under my control, you’ll be the first to die.
Mu Yisheng cursed inwardly, focusing again on Bai Lian.
To his surprise, Bai Lian’s soul inside the mirror suddenly collapsed to the ground, as if her mind had shattered all at once.
The girl pushed herself up with her right elbow, looking as though she might cry.
“Hey!” Mu Yisheng’s eyes gleamed.
It was happening—Bai Lian was on the edge of breaking down!
“Do more!” he urged, infusing the Yin Yuan Immortal Mirror with more spiritual Qi to maintain control.
Without a doubt, the spirit of the mirror reacted in kind.
The female ghosts regrouped, now resembling a vast, undulating tidal wave.
Bai Lian glanced upward.
It’s finished.
The recent onslaught had drained her strength, and with the arrival of so many ghosts, how could she possibly survive?
Even if An Lan arrived now, all she would be able to do was hold her lifeless body and weep.
It felt exactly like the bad endings from some of those game storylines.
I won’t pretend anymore.
Hurry up and climb up!
Right now, I don’t have time to worry about acting as the Elder Martial Sister.
Bai Lian rolled over and tried to plan her escape, but before she could make a move, a wave of dizziness overtook her. Her body felt unbearably fatigued.
She remembered the exhaustion from this morning. Was it happening again?
She could no longer pinpoint the cause. Amidst the mocking, ghostly laughter, the shadowy wave of spirits surged over her, swallowing her entirely.
“…”
Bai Lian was seated on the ground.
It was so dark.
Too dark to see anything.
Every so often, she could feel a phantom flicker past, but it was as though she were lost in an endless, thick forest of shadows.
She longed for some light.
As Bai Lian thought this, a blue flame suddenly flickered to life before her.
If she wasn’t mistaken, the flame seemed to originate from the middle finger of her right hand.
What the hell?
Bai Lian reached out and poked the darkness before her.
Puff—
A sudden explosion of fire burned the female ghosts around her, reducing them to wisps of black smoke.
Bai Lian stood frozen, shock coursing through her. The flames were growing, emerging from her body as her senses sharpened and she regained awareness.
Damn it!
“It’s on fire!” she shouted.
Not only was she burning, but the floating female ghosts, and even the very space within the Yin Yuan Immortal Mirror, were also engulfed in flames.
Here you go.
A strange sensation of emptiness and tingling deep within her chest spread through Bai Lian. Bizarre, fragmented images flashed before her eyes—images that seemed to come from another time, another world.
And then, the realization hit her like a sudden gust of wind.
So, I’m about to go through my Yin Fire Disaster!
That was it. Everything clicked into place.
This was the answer to her struggles.
The Yin Fire Disaster was a different trial from the Sky Thunder Disaster. The Sky Thunder Disaster struck a cultivator’s body with a lightning bolt, but the Yin Fire Disaster was far more personal: it flared up from within, igniting the heart and soul.
Bai Lian now understood. The reason for her weariness was simple—her Yin Fire Disaster had arrived early.
If she survived it, her soul would be unburdened, able to connect fully with the heavens and earth.
But if she failed… her internal organs would burn to ash, and she would never be able to cultivate again.
Bai Lian’s face tightened, her lips curling into a helpless expression.
It shouldn’t have happened this quickly. My mood, after that attack… It was too unstable. That’s what triggered the Yin Fire Disaster.
Now, of all times, this disaster was upon her.
Damn! Bai Lian fumed, her fury rising like a storm inside her.
Had it not been for the man with the mirror, she would have been ill-equipped to face this fire disaster.
It’s too risky. Even with her soul’s power having reached the Soul Changing Stage, suppressing the Yin Fire was no easy feat. One wrong move, and she could be consumed by it.
Bai Lian quickly focused, directing all her energy to control the growing flames within her.
Meanwhile, outside the mirror, Mu Yisheng stared in disbelief.
What?
It was impossible! Everything had been going according to plan—Bai Lian was on the brink of collapse, the perfect moment for him to seize control. But now, she was burning a hole through the ghostly swarm with a blue flame.
The flame…
Mu Yisheng’s eyes narrowed in suspicion. That fire—it resembled the Yin Fire of the Yin Fire Disaster.
So… she’s a Natural Saint.
She could control the Yin Fire itself.
His teeth ground together, his eyes turning bloodshot with rage.
I won’t let you succeed!
Yin Fire? Who cares? His Yin Yuan Immortal Mirror was far more powerful than any ordinary top-grade magic tool.
“Go! Go!” Mu Yisheng hissed, pushing the power of the mirror to its limits.
He no longer cared about the ghosts trapped within the mirror. He only needed to control Bai Lian. Once he had her under his influence, he could take as many women as he wanted. After all, women were a dime a dozen in the vast East Divine Land.
With a command, the mirror released hundreds of thousands of imprisoned ghosts, directing them to swarm toward Bai Lian.
One by one, the ghosts fell, consumed by the blue flames. Another, and another…
Bai Lian stood motionless, watching in stunned silence.
The Yin Fire within her had stopped burning her. Instead, it wrapped around the ghosts, twisting and consuming them.
Well…
Was the Yin Yuan Immortal Mirror… helping her?
To her surprise, not all of the female ghosts were reduced to ash. Some of them, though burned clean of their corruption, continued to drift in the air, their forms in a dazed, confused state.
They’re… lightweight.
The ghosts had transformed, becoming delicate, glowing white lights.
A small white light might have seemed insignificant on its own, but when many of them came together, they created something breathtaking.
Like stars.
A stream of white lights, weaving through the dark, made even the bleakest of spaces seem enchanting.
Bai Lian felt her body slowly lifting, drifting upward.
The starry sea enveloped her, and for a moment, she forgot the severity of her Yin Fire Disaster.
The purified souls around her felt warm—comforting, like a winter fire on a cold night.
Five hundred years ago…
Miss Ying and her lover had planned to start a new life in another land. She had already chosen a name for their child.
But on the day she was supposed to meet him, Mu Yisheng had kidnapped her.
The rain that day mirrored her sorrow.
Five hundred years ago…
Miss He waited patiently at the crossroads for her childhood sweetheart to return.
She had heard the clatter of hooves, but when the riders arrived, it was Mu Yisheng who came around the corner.
By the time her sweetheart returned, all he found was a single red flower, its petals scattered on the ground.
Five hundred years ago…
Each of the white lights told a story—a story of rain, sorrow, and lost love.
Bai Lian stood still, the intensity of her flame growing with each passing moment.
But this time, it wasn’t the Yin Fire that burned her.
It was the purest, warmest flame of the soul.
Are their flames… spreading to me?
Bai Lian softly cupped one of the white lights in her hands.
I accept your flame, and I will avenge you!
