Chapter 1: Bai Lian Is Terrible! We Must Get Rid of Her! (2)
The middle-aged man inside the house suddenly looked surprised.
It seemed like his disciple had changed.
Calm and composed, he now carried an air of maturity. Though he appeared somewhat unpolished, he seemed to be teetering on the edge of ascending to the Immortal World.
What could have happened?
The middle-aged man said, “Oh, I heard that you recently visited Nanwang Country.”
“Master, I have just returned from Nanwang City,” Zhao Haiya replied.
“Oh?” The middle-aged man’s tone turned curious. “Then you must be aware of the real situation there.”
Zhao Haiya nodded and began recounting what had transpired in Nanwang City.
As he listened, the middle-aged man nodded thoughtfully. He had called Zhao Haiya to confirm whether the rumors surrounding Bai Lian were true.
“Did you personally hear someone claim that Bai Lian is the reincarnation of a Star Lord?”
“That is correct,” Zhao Haiya affirmed.
The middle-aged man furrowed his brow slightly.
He had consulted the history books and found that three thousand years ago, Nanwang Country’s strength had been immense—possibly even comparable to the four major sects and far superior to the current Tianji Sect.
If this claim came from the emperor of Nanwang Country, it likely held some truth.
Star Lord.
Wow.
The Duxian Sect was incredibly fortunate!
The middle-aged man repeated, “Can you truly perceive Bai Lian’s strength?”
Zhao Haiya shook his head, looking perplexed. “I can’t comprehend it.”
“When I stood beside Fairy Bai Lian,” Zhao Haiya continued, “it felt as though she were a towering mountain, far beyond my reach. But when I distanced myself, it seemed as if she were an unfathomable trench, too deep to see the end.”
“…”
“However, there is one thing I can confirm.”
“What is that?”
“Fairy Bai Lian has become a master of the Field.”
Zhao Haiya’s mind flashed back to the stars that illuminated the night sky of Nanwang City.
A Field!
There was no mistake.
He had seen his master’s field before, but it was nothing compared to the grandeur of Bai Lian’s, which was as vast and brilliant as the night sky.
The middle-aged man’s expression grew serious.
If Bai Lian’s strength had truly broken through to the Transcendency Stage, then she might very well be the reincarnation of a Star Lord.
Still, he couldn’t help but laugh.
There was no need for concern. The Tianji Sect and the Duxian Sect shared a good relationship.
His daughter, Xia Qingqing, often spoke fondly of Bai Lian—how kind she was, how much she cared for her.
Those who should be worried were the people who had made enemies of the Duxian Sect.
“I see,” the middle-aged man said, smiling. “You must be exhausted from your travels. Go and rest for a while.”
“Yes, Master,” Zhao Haiya replied with a bow before leaving the room.
Zhao Haiya’s Revelation and the Hidden Threat
Zhao Haiya walked toward the door, but just as he reached it, he suddenly turned back.
“Master, my Yin Fire Disaster is approaching.”
“Is that so?”
The middle-aged man’s eyes lit up with excitement.
Zhao Haiya was his most cherished disciple. He had once believed that Zhao Haiya would become the Tianji Sect’s youngest Soul Changing Stage cultivator. However, despite reaching the Nascent Soul Stage, Zhao Haiya’s cultivation had stagnated for the past 20 years.
Zhao Haiya nodded firmly, his eyes filled with determination.
“Hehehe!”
The middle-aged man burst into hearty laughter, his joy uncontainable.
Happiness can indeed come unexpectedly.
Patting Zhao Haiya on the shoulder, he exclaimed, “Bai Lian? Star Lord? Forget it! This news pales in comparison to the fact that my prized disciple is about to reach the Soul Changing Stage!”
“Haiya!” The middle-aged man smiled brightly as he called his disciple’s name.
Good fortune comes after perseverance, he thought. He was confident Zhao Haiya would soar to new heights after this trial.
“Master!” Zhao Haiya called back with affection.
The middle-aged man’s expression softened. “Haiya, if you encounter any difficulties, come to me. But remember, you must be fully prepared. The Yin Fire Disaster isn’t easy to endure.”
Yin Fire doesn’t burn the body; it burns the heart.
Zhao Haiya nodded resolutely. “Master, I’m ready.”
“Good!”
Stroking his beard, the middle-aged man felt proud. “You’re truly deserving of being my disciple, Zhao Haiya!”
But then Zhao Haiya hesitated, scratching his head.
“Master, the reason I had this insight was because I saw another approach through Fairy Bai Lian.”
“?!”
A sudden sense of unease washed over Xia Guiyuan.
Zhao Haiya continued, “After the Yin Fire Disaster, I’ve decided to leave the Tianji Sect.”
“What?!” Xia Guiyuan pointed an accusing finger at Zhao Haiya. “Are you planning to betray our sect and join the Duxian Sect, you rebel?!”
“No, Master!” Zhao Haiya hurriedly shook his head. “Please allow me to explain.”
He described his new dream—
He had come from the mortal world, and now he wanted to return to it.
“I may not have Fairy Bai Lian’s abilities, but I can still make a difference!” Zhao Haiya’s face lit up as he spoke. “I want to help those in need and share Fairy Bai Lian’s message with a wider audience.”
Xia Guiyuan’s anger began to wane as he observed the sincerity in Zhao Haiya’s eyes.
“Master, I’m not leaving the Tianji Sect. I simply wish to discover my true self.”
The essence of cultivation lies in finding one’s true self.
Xia Guiyuan sighed, his lips twitching in frustration. “You must decide for yourself.”
The sun’s rays streamed through the window, illuminating his face.
He thought of his daughter, Xia Qingqing, who frequently praised Bai Lian.
What is it about Bai Lian that leaves such a profound impact on everyone?
Gnashing his teeth, Xia Guiyuan glanced at the vibrant green tree outside the window, unable to suppress his exasperation.
Moments later, he heard Zhao Haiya’s footsteps as he left the bamboo house.
“Master, I’ll visit you often,” Zhao Haiya promised.
“Don’t be so formal. Just go!” Xia Guiyuan waved him off impatiently.
Creak.
The door closed softly behind him.
Sinking into his chair, Xia Guiyuan rubbed his eyes wearily.
One day, he thought, Zhao Haiya’s name will be etched into the history of the Tianji Sect.
A Looming Threat
Elsewhere, faint blue flames flickered to life in a hidden cave deep within the East Divine Land.
From the brightest flame, a voice emerged. “Did you receive the message?”
It referred to the news from Nanwang City.
The smaller flames trembled in response.
“Received.”
“I got it yesterday.”
“What do you think?”
“Bai Lian is becoming too influential. We need to act before her power grows beyond control.”
“She has already reached the Transcendency Stage. If she fully awakens the power of her past life…”
“Agreed!”
The brightest flame flared briefly before the voice resumed. “It seems we’re in consensus.”
“When should we strike?” another flame inquired.
“We wait until Bai Lian is alone.”
“Understood.”
A chilling laughter echoed through the cave as the flames dimmed, leaving the cavern shrouded in darkness once more.
Only those present knew the gravity of what had happened.
