Chapter 1: Bai Lian Is Terrible! We Must Get Rid of Her!
Bai Lian stepped out from under the eaves.
She braved the pouring rain and entered the sunrise-lit streets of Nanwang City.
The sound of “Ula! Ula!” drowned out the rain.
Bai Lian stood on the uneven stone floor, feeling an overwhelming sense of warmth. It felt as though she was enveloped in something soft.
When she reached out, she couldn’t discern whether the warmth came from the sun or from within herself. But it didn’t matter.
She wished to return to the Duxian Sect. The “Ancient Demon” had been defeated by the combined forces. This meant the Shifu and other elders must already be heading back to the sect.
Bai Lian reminisced about the lively An Lan in the dream village.
Honestly, this image was completely different from her usual perception of An Lan. She could hardly imagine An Lan shouting, “Bai Lian, wait for me!”
But… why did she feel so connected?
Bai Lian crossed her hands in front of her chest and clasped her shoulders. She felt as though her “weakness” had been exposed.
Although this might not be the most appropriate moment, she still wanted to say something.
“My Shifu is so lovely!”
Especially when An Lan ran swiftly, almost kicking off the clogs from her feet—so cute.
Bai Lian’s eyes sparkled faintly, and the ✩ under her right eye suddenly appeared.
“Time to pack up the spirit tools and head back to see Master,” she murmured.
With a light step, she was about to leave the city when a shy voice called out from behind.
“I…”
Bai Lian turned around.
Ling Yue stood at the dormitory entrance. She was wearing the same white robe she had worn when she first met Bai Lian. The skirt had a slight opening, and a light dusting of powder adorned her neck and cheeks.
Ling Yue and Bai Lian exchanged glances. Ling Yue wanted to say so much, but the moment didn’t allow her to express it.
All right. They could discuss it later.
Bai Lian had her own matters to handle, and Ling Yue had hers. At the very least, Ling Yue needed to hold onto her position until another qualified emperor was found for Nanwang Country.
Ling Yue smiled and said, “Have a safe trip, Bai Lian.”
“Farewell.”
Bai Lian waved goodbye to Ling Yue. Now wasn’t the time for hesitation.
She felt like a bowl of tea—slightly bitter, neither sour nor sweet nor spicy.
Turning around, she walked into the sunrise, her figure blending into the bright sunlight. The red sun rising on the horizon represented hope, vitality, and the future that Ling Yue was determined to pursue.
Bai Lian.
Ling Yue wanted to conceal all her emotions, but the carefully crafted smile on her face crumbled as her nose twitched involuntarily. Tears streamed down from the corners of her eyes, trailing from her eye sockets to her shoulders.
Ling Yue returned to her bedroom and sat in front of a slightly blurred mirror. Her reflection appeared worn out.
Now, she was truly alone. No forefather, no father, no Tao Hui, no Bai Lian…
Perhaps this was what one had to endure to mature.
When faced with challenges, there wouldn’t always be someone to hold your hand and move forward with you.
Often, people felt lonely, which was why they longed for companionship.
Ling Yue fell heavily onto the bed with her arms spread wide, like a discarded puppet. It felt as though all the voices around her were fading away.
Only one jade pendant resting on her chest remained warm.
It was Nanwang Country’s ancestral jade pendant.
Suddenly, Ling Yue reached out and retrieved the jade pendant.
Staring at the ivory pendant resting in her palm, a flood of information rushed into her mind.
The Spirit Tool buried beneath both Nanwang City and the royal city was actually a single tool called [Another Year of Nanwang]. The mother ring comprised the outer ring, while the inner ring formed the child ring. The jade pendant was the key to controlling them.
Currently, Bai Lian had taken the mother ring, leaving Ling Yue with only the child ring.
A genuine smile gradually spread across Ling Yue’s face.
Despite being thousands of miles away, touching the jade pendant made Ling Yue feel as though she were touching Bai Lian herself.
“It’s as smooth as Bai Lian’s skin,” she murmured.
Ling Yue carefully hung the rope holding the jade pendant around her neck, placing the warm stone between her breasts.
Squeeze.
This was the closest place to her heart.
Clutching her quilt tightly, she let the warmth spread through her chest.
Is this what it feels like to be cared for?
Ling Yue took her time before releasing the quilt and rising from the bed. The sadness and fear of earlier had become things of the past.
After changing into fresh clothes, she calmly stepped out of the bedroom. The warmth of the sun kissed her face.
This was the royal city, without Bai Lian’s presence.
It was time for the Queen to take center stage.
Bai Lian inserted the Spirit Tool, dug from the ground, into her chest.
Even though it was only half of a top-grade Spirit Tool, she was satisfied. After all, this tool was meant for guarding.
With [Another Year of Nanwang], she could face her opponents in direct combat without worrying about magical attacks.
To an ordinary cultivator, who focused on magic and neglected body cultivation, she was as fearsome as a demon king.
Considering the wide coverage of [Another Year of Nanwang], it could also serve as a powerful shield for those she cared about.
“Let’s head back,” Bai Lian said.
Her third Martial Sister, Su Youwei, nodded vigorously. “Yes!”
Su Youwei didn’t want to linger in Nanwang Country any longer. It wasn’t that she disliked the place—she still appreciated the kindhearted residents of Nanwang City. The problem lay with the Queen, Ling Yue.
Pooh!
It was fine for Ling Yue to cry in front of Elder Martial Sister Bai Lian, but to throw herself into her arms and burst into tears? Shameless!
Su Youwei smiled, relieved to see Elder Martial Sister Bai Lian decide to return to the Duxian Sect without hesitation.
When they left, they attracted far more attention than when they had arrived.
Even in the border regions of Nanwang Country, voices singing Bai Lian’s name could be heard.
Normally, news wouldn’t have spread so quickly, but the fervent worshippers of Bai Lian had ensured that it did.
At the Guangtong Sect’s flying boat, Zhao Haiya came to bid farewell to Bai Lian.
After a brief exchange of pleasantries, everyone boarded the boat to return to their respective sects.
The journey was far from boring. Each day, passengers on the boat shared tales of Bai Lian’s deeds in Nanwang Country.
“The demon was immensely powerful and could effortlessly defeat any cultivator at the Soul Changing Stage. But he didn’t expect Fairy Bai Lian to be stronger than a Transcendency Stage cultivator!”
“When Fairy Bai Lian’s powers manifested, the demon was so terrified he lost control of his bladder. Hahaha!”
“If I were the reincarnation of a Star Lord, I wouldn’t be as modest as Bai Lian.”
“That’s why Fairy Bai Lian is a Natural Saint, and you are not.”
“Bai Lian, my forever goddess!”
Zhao Haiya smiled.
Please, keep talking. I like listening!
To him, the cultivators around him were like seeds. If these seeds were planted across the vast East Divine Land, they would soon flourish and spread the spirit of “Natural Saint Bai Lian” to even more people.
A few days later, Zhao Haiya arrived at the Tianji Sect.
Upon his return, he was summoned by his master before he could rest.
In front of the bamboo house, he paused to adjust his robe. Then, with a steady hand, he pushed open the door and stepped inside.
“Master.”
He stood upright, neither too humble nor overbearing.
