Chapter 30: Bai Lian, My Natural Saint, My Light! (2)
When Bai Lian and Ling Yue stepped onto the city wall, the chariot that had completed its final mission turned into a streak of light shooting into the sky amid cheers, finally dissipating slowly.
They didn’t rush to the ground, because Wen Su was floating before them. The white-robed cultivator had already recovered. Though he looked somewhat aged, his posture remained straight. However, having expended too much energy controlling the Spirit Tool earlier, his figure appeared unreal, as if he might vanish at any moment.
“Father.” Ling Yue stepped forward to grasp Wen Su, but passed straight through his body.
“Silly child.” Wen Su reached out to touch Ling Yue’s head but failed. After sighing, he continued, “I will leave soon, just like our ancestor.”
“Father.” Ling Yue’s voice cracked, all her previous excitement vanishing.
“There’s no need to be sad,” Wen Su said. “Humans die sooner or later, not to mention I have already died once. I am happy knowing you will continue to guard Nanwang for me after my death.”
Ling Yue shook her head vigorously. No. This was different. Before, she hadn’t felt her father’s love. She had been sad then, but sad because “a person died,” forcing a few tears at the funeral. Now it was different. Although she met Wen Su after his death for the first time, thanks to Bai Lian, she now understood Wen Su’s love for her.
“Only you don’t understand your father’s love for you!”
Yes. Back then, she hadn’t understood at all. But now Wen Su would leave just as she finally comprehended.
Why did it have to happen like this?
“Father, can you not leave?” Ling Yue begged.
Wen Su remained silent. As the leader of a country, why are you crying? He wanted to scold Ling Yue with harsh words but remembered this was farewell. He would never have another chance to guide his daughter.
Let it be.
Wen Su closed his eyes tightly, opening them after a long moment. “You can only rely on yourself from now on.”
Ling Yue crouched on the ground, curling into herself. “Father.”
“I’ve watched you for years,” Wen Su said. “In truth, you’ve done very well. Even without me, you will be able to lead Nanwang forward.”
Ling Yue cried too hard to speak.
Wen Su shook his head and turned to Bai Lian. “Fairy Bai Lian, after I’m gone, according to our agreement, the Spirit Tool buried under Nanwang City will be yours.”
Bai Lian nodded silently. This was a transaction.
It was almost time. A smile crossed Wen Su’s face. He could hardly stand. At the last moment, he wanted to give Bai Lian a grand gift. How could a mere Spirit Tool express his gratitude to Bai Lian for saving his daughter and Nanwang?
Fairy Bai Lian, someone like you will become the brightest star in East Divine Land’s sky one day. I have no magic power left. I can only help you ascend a little faster!
Wen Su’s soul slowly rose, soft white light enveloping him. This change caught Ling Yue’s attention. She jumped up from the ground, running to Wen Su with outstretched hands.
“Father!”
She tried to grab hold of something, anything, but no matter how she reached, she couldn’t touch him. She could only miss him repeatedly, father and daughter unable to embrace.
Confusion and pain filled Ling Yue’s eyes, tears streaming down her face. This was the last chance! If she could just hold his hand one final time!
Why, why, why…
Seeing Ling Yue unable to reach Wen Su even on tiptoe, Bai Lian quickly moved forward and grasped her waist.
“Fine, I give in!”
Bai Lian flew upward with Ling Yue. Upon reaching Wen Su, she took out the Three Turn Soul Coagulation Pill she had received from the internal demon task. Though this Medical Pill was rare, she herself didn’t need it.
“Consider it an exchange for that Spirit Tool.”
She placed the Medical Pill into Wen Su’s body. Suddenly, the white light surrounding him grew more brilliant, and his illusory form became solid.
In that moment, Ling Yue felt her hand being held. She looked up.
As Bai Lian released her waist, Wen Su clasped Ling Yue’s hands tightly.
Ling Yue: “…”
Wen Su: “…”
An unprecedented warmth. Perhaps this was familial love.
Wen Su smiled kindly. “Silly girl, you have always been my pride.”
Ling Yue broke down in tears.
Their hands finally parted. Wen Su rose higher and higher until he transformed into light, illuminating all directions. Cries and cheers echoed from Nanwang City, but all voices were overshadowed by his words from above: “Thank you, Fairy Bai Lian.”
Hoo.
Bai Lian shook her head slightly, looking at the sobbing Ling Yue. Though the empire was no more, people would continue forward with their predecessors’ will.
So it was.
Bai Lian felt deeply moved. She knew she had used the Three Turn Soul Coagulation Pill correctly.
She placed her hand on Ling Yue’s shoulder. “Let’s go lower the floating royal city.”
Ling Yue continued crying and hugged Bai Lian.
Su Youwei: “!”
I’ll give in to you. Cry a little longer.
Bai Lian thought this, but suddenly a new vision appeared in the sky.
“What is that?” Zhao Haiya looked up.
Light!
The light shone upon the earth. Then, stars began appearing in the soft white radiance, falling one by one onto the Yaoguang Special Effect that manifested behind Bai Lian.
It happened so suddenly. When everyone turned, Bai Lian’s Yaoguang Special Effect projected an enchanting watercolor painting across the dawn sky.
“Natural Saint!”
“Ah ah ah, Star Lord!”
“Fairy Bai Lian!”
Even some cultivators joined Nanwang City’s residents in cheering. From this moment on, they became Bai Lian’s devoted supporters.
Questions filled Bai Lian’s mind as notifications appeared:
[Hard Skill +25]
[Soft Skill +24]
[Light Skill +28]
[Focus +21]
Her cultivation base had broken through to the peak of the Nascent Soul Stage. Her strength had greatly increased, all basic skills exceeding 400 points. Even without using spirit Qi, she could now match any Soul Changing Stage cultivator.
But…
Bai Lian was furious, trembling all over, her extremities going cold. She sensed traces of the Three Turn Soul Coagulation Pill—all this was Wen Su’s doing.
The emperor, Wen Su… you truly are family!
Why? Why persecute me, a 19-year-old girl?
In the sky, Wen Su looked at the nearby emperor in shock.
“Ancestor.”
“Let’s go together.”
After all, he had said they would leave together.
The emperor smiled. He had been watching Bai Lian and Ling Yue, relieved to see their harmony.
Wen Su nodded. “Let’s go together.”
As he departed, he kept looking back at Bai Lian.
May you always be as bright as the moon.
Bai Lian, my Natural Saint, my light!
