Chapter 2: Three-Way Split
The small room naturally divided into three factions:
Yu Ying, recently returning to the outside world after passing the first trial, sat bewildered.
Xiao Jinse and Su Youwei, suddenly united in suspicion and defense, glared at the newcomer.
Bai Lian, her round toes wriggling restlessly, stood frozen in confusion.
What on earth was happening?
Bai Lian was dumbfounded. Why had the fourth Martial Sister suddenly transformed from a sword into a person—without warning? And in front of the second and third Martial Sisters, no less!
Her expression mirrored her inner turmoil: wide-eyed, mouth slightly agape, as if caught in a perpetual state of shock.
—
A Sudden Change
Before all this, Bai Lian had meticulously planned how she would introduce the fourth Martial Sister to her younger Martial Sisters.
Perhaps a straightforward introduction?
Or she could have Shifu do the honors?
Maybe even something dramatic to break the ice?
She’d envisioned countless scenarios—all carefully crafted to foster harmony on the Qiongming Peak. After all, keeping the peace was her top priority.
Each younger Martial Sister alone was a force of nature, but together… things could get chaotic. Bai Lian had seen it play out in countless ways in the game:
A defiled Holy Spirit Goddess killed her Elder Martial Sister and then her other sisters.
The sick third Martial Sister poisoned everyone else to monopolize Bai Lian’s attention.
The optimistic fifth Martial Sister was beaten to death over a trivial misunderstanding.
The game was rife with tragedy, and Bai Lian was determined not to let history repeat itself.
Her goal? A peaceful, loving Qiongming Peak where everyone could thrive together. But now, chaos loomed, as the second and third Martial Sisters prepared to attack Yu Ying.
—
Tensions Rise
Yu Ying, startled, found herself apprehended by the two Martial Sisters.
“Who are you? How did you sneak onto the Qiongming Peak?” Su Youwei demanded, her voice cold.
Xiao Jinse added, “No need for questions—let’s take her to the Law Enforcement Hall!”
“No, wait!” Yu Ying struggled. “This is a misunderstanding!”
But neither of them believed her.
With fists raised, the second and third Martial Sisters prepared to subdue Yu Ying. Bai Lian, sensing disaster, bolted toward them barefoot.
“Stop!” she shouted.
Her voice cut through the tension like a blade. Both Martial Sisters froze, their gazes snapping to her.
Bai Lian took a deep breath, her tone firm yet soothing. “Yu Ying is not a suspicious person.”
—
The Truth Revealed
The room fell silent.
Su Youwei blinked in confusion. “Yu Ying?” The name sounded familiar. After a moment, memories from Hening City surfaced. Elder Martial Sister Bai Lian had mentioned Yu Ying’s tragic story before.
But this woman didn’t match Su Youwei’s memory. Her hair color was different.
Seeing the doubt on their faces, Bai Lian quickly explained the situation. She shared everything—how Yu Ying had been trapped as a sword and how she had saved her.
Hearing the full story, Xiao Jinse and Su Youwei’s expressions softened.
Xiao Jinse clenched her fists. “Marquis Wu’an deserves to die for what he did!”
Su Youwei nodded in agreement. “Elder Martial Sister, you did the right thing saving her.”
Even the jade rabbit, perched on the window frame, chirped in approval.
Yu Ying felt a warm sense of belonging. The hostility from earlier melted away, replaced by genuine concern.
—
The Sword’s Transformation
Xiao Jinse’s curiosity got the better of her. “Miss Yu Ying, can you really turn into a sword?”
Yu Ying nodded. “Yes, I can.”
To prove it, she transformed into an exquisite sword. The second and third Martial Sisters were instantly captivated.
“How incredible!” Xiao Jinse marveled, holding the sword.
“Let me see!” Su Youwei snatched the sword, admiring its craftsmanship.
The two Martial Sisters eagerly passed the sword back and forth, their excitement growing. Bai Lian smiled at the sight.
—
A Misstep
But her words shattered the harmony.
“The Qiongming Peak’s future depends on you. I’m relieved to see you getting along so well with the new Martial Sister.”
The room fell silent again.
“New Martial Sister?”
Xiao Jinse and Su Youwei froze, their gazes locking onto Yu Ying with newfound intensity.
Bai Lian instantly regretted her choice of words.
Human joys and sorrows are indeed fleeting. What had once been admiration turned to icy suspicion.
Xiao Jinse quickly let go of the sword. Su Youwei’s smile vanished, replaced by a stony expression.
The Yu Ying Sword clattered to the floor. The jade rabbit caught it with her ears, chirping indignantly.
Yu Ying, feeling the tension rise again, gulped nervously.
—
The Tides Turn
Bai Lian sighed inwardly. Achieving harmony on the Qiongming Peak was proving to be more challenging than she’d ever imagined.
