Chapter 29: That Is a Real Natural Saint! (2)
At first, he hid beneath the altar, relying on a wisp of his divine sense to control [Tao Hui]. For ten years, he eluded countless attempts to expose him, even escaping the detection of a Transcendency Stage cultivator.
But the moment Bai Lian appeared, everything changed. She immediately discerned his weakness, forcing him out of hiding.
Layer by layer, Bai Lian’s true identity was revealed. She was the reincarnation of a Star Lord. How could a mere worm crawling out of the dirt possibly contend with her? Desperate, he and the evil idea hatched a plan to possess Su Youwei’s body to use as leverage against Bai Lian. Instead, they stumbled right into a trap she had laid in advance. The evil idea was destroyed, and their control over the emperor shattered.
In a final act of defiance, he attempted to take Nanwang City down with him, but Bai Lian had already anticipated this. The protective shield she had erected was as impenetrable as her resolve.
“You’ve foreseen everything,” Tao Hui realized bitterly. “No matter what I tried, I was always within your grasp. I…”
At that moment, Tao Hui truly understood despair.
The threat of death was not despair. True despair came when there was no hope left.
And Bai Lian was his despair.
Pain.
Unbearable pain.
“Ahhh!” Tao Hui wailed, clutching his broken left arm as agony consumed him. His hand, his chest, his head—every part of him throbbed with torment.
“It hurts! The pain is killing me! Just let me die, please—let me die!”
He writhed on the ground, desperate for release.
Ling Yue stood frozen, wide-eyed. She had never imagined Tao Hui, who once carried such arrogance, could fall into such a pitiful state.
Bai Lian’s gaze was cold and decisive.
“This guy is like a dog,” she thought, then quickly corrected herself.
No, that’s insulting to dogs.
Better to end this here and now.
Bai Lian was in no mood to witness his pathetic insanity any longer. With a swift motion, she drove the Dirt Free Sword deep into Tao Hui’s body, shattering his soul, which showed no signs of escape.
As Tao Hui faded away, fragments of his memories flashed in Bai Lian’s mind.
It was him. He was the one who had trapped Ling Yue in the black wooden box. He had secretly encouraged others to torment her.
This shameless wretch!
Anger surged through Bai Lian, and she instinctively raised her hand to strike him again. But Tao Hui was already gone, leaving no target for her fury.
“Better not tell Ling Yue about this,” Bai Lian muttered, suppressing her rage.
Her attention turned to the emperor, whose form had become faintly translucent.
“Why did you help me?” she asked.
The emperor smiled faintly. “Nanwang Country became the overlord of Mingzhou under my rule. It is me, and I am it.”
Bai Lian detected no malice in his words. Perhaps this emperor wasn’t such a bad person after all.
The emperor took a step forward toward Wen Su.
“My… ancestor,” Wen Su stammered, unsure how to face the man who had summoned sand soldiers to attack Nanwang City.
The emperor’s gaze was steady. “No matter the reason, I will take responsibility for my actions. I deeply regret what you’ve endured.”
Tears streamed down Wen Su’s face. “Ancestor…”
“When the time comes,” the emperor said, “let’s leave together.”
Next, the emperor turned to Ling Yue, who stood nervously before him.
“Ancestor,” she whispered, panic evident in her voice.
The emperor extended his hand but hesitated before touching her head, ultimately pulling it back. He didn’t want to risk alarming Bai Lian.
He turned to Bai Lian and said, “Master Bai Lian, can you accompany me?”
“Don’t call me ‘master,’” Bai Lian replied sharply. “And I’m not the reincarnation of any Star Lord!”
The emperor nodded knowingly. “Understood.”
His smile widened. “After all, you’re the reincarnation of an Immortal Emperor. Now that Tao Hui is dead, your secret is safe.”
“Fairy Bai Lian, I’ll keep your secret!” the emperor declared with a laugh.
“…”
Bai Lian was stunned. What secret?!
At the emperor’s invitation, Bai Lian stepped onto his chariot. Ling Yue, still in a daze, followed close behind.
This would be the emperor’s final journey through his country.
As the chariot soared across Nanwang Country, the emperor’s thoughts turned nostalgic. Once, he had faced a maddened Immortal who wreaked havoc in Mingzhou. Though he ultimately failed to stop the Immortal, his efforts confined the destruction and saved countless lives.
“Except Nanwang…”
A shadow of sorrow passed through the emperor’s eyes. The land he once ruled had fallen to ruin, manipulated by Tao Hui and the evil idea.
But hope still flickered within him. “If I can find the pearl used by the Immortal, there’s a chance to restore Mingzhou,” he said.
Bai Lian’s heart skipped a beat. Was he referring to the Ten Thousand Poison Pearl?
Suddenly, the emperor began to glow.
“Ancestor!” Ling Yue cried.
The emperor’s body dissolved into countless specks of light, cascading down like falling stars. His voice lingered, soft yet resolute.
“My ghost should have returned to samsara long ago. This is my final contribution. Don’t be sad. Perhaps one day, you’ll meet my reincarnation.
“Fairy Bai Lian, please pass on my heritage to Ling Yue.”
Unspoken, he left one final thought for Bai Lian: This is my last gift to you. Let the world believe you are merely a Star Lord’s reincarnation. Your true identity as an Immortal Emperor will remain hidden.
On that day, the emperor became a light.
The star-like specks transformed the land of Nanwang Country. Springs erupted from the barren sand, filling the ancient riverbeds. The water brought life, and oases began to flourish once more.
The people were awestruck.
“Fairy Bai Lian!” they cried. “She’s a real Natural Saint!”
Bai Lian wanted to protest. What the fuck! It wasn’t me—it was the emperor!
But no one listened.
Ling Yue, oblivious to Bai Lian’s frustration, gazed at the restored land with tearful eyes.
Under the moonlit sky, amidst the flowing river and boundless plain, a new era had begun.
