Chapter 1: The Story of Three People!
Bai Lian gazed at the mountains and rivers outside the cabin window, her body leaning comfortably against the frame.
A thin film of spirit Qi wrapped the window, isolating her from the whistling wind. Meanwhile, the Yu Ying Sword hung quietly above her, seemingly asleep.
“We’ll leave Heluo after crossing this mountain,” she murmured, her eyes fixed on the horizon. “Two and a half more days on the ship, and then we’ll arrive.”
She turned her attention to the imaginary “Fourth Younger Martial Sister,” speaking as though the girl were by her side. “The scenery of the Duxian sect is stunning—not inferior to the Yaochi Holy Mountain at all.”
Bai Lian couldn’t be sure if her words reached the Fourth Martial Sister, but the thought of her being happy made Bai Lian even happier. She imagined the joy on her sister’s face when she finally left Heluo to reclaim her freedom.
“Let’s celebrate with some hot water!” Bai Lian chuckled, taking a sip.
This trip had been fruitful despite its twists and turns. Not only had she brought the Fourth Martial Sister back, but she’d also become a VIP of the Guangtong sect.
The deacon of Guangtong sect had even promised her a 50% discount on all their vehicles and transmission arrays. Bai Lian had accepted the gesture graciously, appearing “embarrassed” by their generosity.
It was a reward for her exceptional performance in Hening City.
Thanks to Gu Quan’s efforts, her reputation had skyrocketed.
“How can we cleanse the world if we can’t even clean our own house?”
Under Gu Quan’s relentless publicity, this phrase had almost become synonymous with Bai Lian’s name.
The Rise of Bai Lian
People from all walks of life admired her.
“Bai Lian? She’s a bodhisattva!” exclaimed a city guard, still grateful for her help repairing the city walls.
Others grumbled, “It’s only because she saved them from punishment that they praise her.”
Yet a bystander countered, “The enlightenment of Saints happens step by step. Not everyone becomes good overnight.”
The overwhelming attention made Bai Lian hesitant to leave her room.
So, she passed the time playing Go with the Third Younger Martial Sister through their jade slips.
Initially, Bai Lian wanted to throw the match to Su Youwei, but the latter’s sharp eyes caught on immediately.
“Don’t hold back! Elder Martial Sister, play with all your strength!”
After several defeats, Su Youwei finally surrendered, her jade slip lighting up with one final message:
[Elder Martial Sister, how did your Go level improve so much?]
Bai Lian replied with mock seriousness: [I practiced hard for half a year to defeat you!]
Su Youwei smiled at her jade slip, charmed by her Elder Martial Sister’s dedication.
Meanwhile, Xiao Jinse, unfamiliar with Go, could only watch from the sidelines, longing to join in.
“This is a story of three people,” Xiao Jinse thought bitterly. “Why am I just the audience?”
Still recovering from an injury, Xiao Jinse couldn’t cultivate or refine pills, so she quietly nestled into Bai Lian’s quilt for comfort.
As the night deepened, Bai Lian ended her game with Su Youwei. Not because she was bored, but because Su Youwei couldn’t endure losing any longer.
Bai Lian smiled as she tucked away the jade slip.
Planning Ahead
With nothing else to do, Bai Lian began strategizing.
The Fourth Martial Sister’s immediate situation was resolved, but the Fifth Martial Sister remained elusive.
The Fifth Sister’s story was unique. Born with a “Leaky Constitution,” she was unable to hold spirit Qi and had embarked on a path of physical cultivation instead. Her adventures before joining the Duxian sect were nothing short of legendary.
Unfortunately, Bai Lian didn’t know where to start searching for her.
“It won’t be easy,” Bai Lian muttered, marking Yaoxia Bay on her map as a possible lead.
If only she could find a skilled diviner, they might reveal the Fifth Sister’s whereabouts.
A Warm Return
After two and a half days, Bai Lian finally arrived at the Duxian sect.
The sun was setting as she inhaled the earthy scent of grass. Stretching her limbs, she smiled and said to the Yu Ying Sword, “Let’s head to Qiongming Peak!”
Her return did not go unnoticed. Disciples near the gate whispered excitedly:
“Elder Martial Sister Bai Lian is back!”
“Ahh! She’s so cool!”
Even those who secretly disliked her couldn’t help but feign admiration under the weight of her growing reputation.
Before she could ascend to Qiongming Peak, Sect Leader Jue Yunzi summoned her to report on her trip.
Bai Lian recounted her experiences, carefully omitting her connection with Si Yunshang.
Jue Yunzi nodded approvingly. “You’ve done well. Rest now.”
Bai Lian left Yunluo Peak with a spring in her step, eager to reunite with her Martial Sisters.
A Simple Joy
Near the stone tablet halfway up the mountain, Xiao Jinse, Su Youwei, and the jade rabbit were waiting for her.
As Bai Lian approached, they called out in unison, “Elder Martial Sister, welcome back!”
There were no flowers or gifts, just a simple, heartfelt greeting that warmed Bai Lian’s heart.
“This is the life I’ve always wanted,” she thought.
She didn’t dream of grandeur or bloody battles, only of holding her sisters’ hands and smiling with them for years to come.
“Let’s go home.”
With Xiao Jinse on her left and Su Youwei on her right, Bai Lian ascended the mountain, the jade rabbit hopping along on her shoulder.
A Night Class
Back at Qiongming Peak, Bai Lian announced, “Let’s resume our night classes!”
Her Martial Sisters eagerly nodded, excited to see Bai Lian’s Tao Halo again.
Under the moonlight, Bai Lian removed her shoes and swung her jade feet gently, but something unexpected happened.
The Tao Halo, once faint, now glowed brilliantly, spiraling upward like an awakened force.
Xiao Jinse and Su Youwei gasped in awe.
“Elder Martial Sister’s Holy Body must have awakened a second time!”
Bai Lian, however, was at a loss.
“Why did the Tao Halo suddenly upgrade?!” she wondered, her thoughts interrupted by a voice.
“Hey, what are you doing?”
Startled, everyone turned to see Yu Ying sitting on the bed, staring curiously at Bai Lian’s bare feet.
“You… you…” Xiao Jinse and Su Youwei stammered, their eyes wide with disbelief.
Yu Ying tilted her head innocently. “What’s going on?”
