Chapter 16: The Effect of Elder Martial Sister Bai Lian (2)
The internal demon suddenly appeared again, only two inches away from Bai Lian—within reach.
The Third Younger Martial Sister hurriedly covered her internal demon’s mouth. Go away, go away!
The internal demon was dragged reluctantly away from Bai Lian.
Damn.
Elder Martial Sister Bai Lian hadn’t specified which Martial Sister she was asking about. Why couldn’t I answer?!
The Third Younger Martial Sister said, “Elder Martial Sister, I think…”
She shook her head.
She was not naive.
After hearing the word “Oasis,” she knew that the two sides were fighting for water.
In the desert, this was an irreconcilable dispute.
Even if they stopped those people now, they would fight again in a few days.
The desert in the Sand Region was not an ordinary desert. It had been created by the blood of the immortal. No one could make the Sand Region become a land of milk and honey again.
Bai Lian understood what the Third Younger Martial Sister meant.
In the face of such a situation, they couldn’t do anything.
But I want to choose Task 3, she thought. It seemed more appropriate since the reward was Magic Array +1.
Sometimes, it’s better not to think too much.
Bai Lian raised her hand.
A dozen Flying Swords soared into the sky before striking the center of the battlefield like thunder.
“Well…”
The soldiers of Nanwang and Float Sand stared at Bai Lian in amazement.
A cultivator!
Before fear could spread, the soldiers on both sides felt the sand flowing beneath their feet.
When they regained their senses, they found themselves transported by quicksand to their respective towns.
“?”
“Save the wounded!”
Bai Lian dismantled the Tianshu Sword Array.
“Let’s go.”
She had chosen a target: a town in the northwest corner of Nanwang Country. It seemed to house many cultivators.
Perhaps they could obtain useful information there.
Su Youwei nodded and followed.
Bai Lian flew there, quickly arriving at the town nearly a hundred miles away.
[Huyang Town]
The words were scrawled in black on the dilapidated town gate.
Upon entering, Bai Lian felt as if she had returned to Gray Wind Town.
“Cotton tree shells! Special Cold Version! Feel the temperature of an ice mountain!” “Ice Frost Sword, only 20 inferior Spirit Stones now. Hurry while supplies last!”
Most cultivators here were rookies at the Qi Refining Stage. Cotton tree shells relieved boredom, while Ice Frost Swords dispelled heat. Both items drew crowds to their respective shops.
However, Bai Lian was more struck by the white hair visible throughout the street.
White hair was common among cultivators in the Sand Region.
Bai Lian’s mood lifted.
She glanced back at the Third Younger Martial Sister, worried about painful memories resurfacing.
The Third Younger Martial Sister appeared normal, occasionally examining handmade toys at roadside stalls.
After buying her a rattle, Bai Lian entered a restaurant.
No sooner had she sat down than someone burst through the door excitedly.
“Good news, good news!”
Someone immediately asked, “Lao Dong, what’s the good news?”
The middle-aged man called Lao Dong sat down, drank half a pot of tea, then slapped the table. “Remember how the two Taoist sects said they’d unite with all sects to fight the ancient demon?”
“So what?”
“Ha ha.” Lao Dong laughed. “Just received word—that demon has died!”
Huh?
Bai Lian froze.
Isn’t the ancient demon Shifu?
Is Shifu dead?
That’s impossible!
Before she could speculate further, the man revealed the truth.
“Have you heard of the Youming Ghost Clan? That ancient demon was their leader from seven thousand years ago, when they were destroyed!”
Lao Dong shook his head and sighed.
“Gasp—”
The crowd drew a collective breath.
The air seemed to cool rapidly. Despite being in the scorching desert, it felt like an ice cave.
The Youming Ghost Sect! Once the leader of all Demon Sects.
Years ago, several sects had carelessly provoked them, resulting in their entire memberships being turned into ghost puppets.
It took multiple sects three days and nights of joint attacks to destroy them.
Yet now the Youming Ghost Sect had revived after all this time!
Lao Dong continued, “Seven thousand years ago, they foresaw their defeat and staged their destruction, secretly sealing themselves in ghost puppets.”
“Cunning villains!” someone cursed.
“They awakened recently,” Lao Dong explained, “and their leader sought revenge. She absorbed countless ghost puppets to increase her power dramatically. But she underestimated the four sects’ strength. Instead of achieving revenge, they exposed themselves. This time, none escaped.”
“?”
“Congratulations!”
“Excellent news!”
“Did any righteous sect members die?”
Lao Dong shook his head. “No casualties this time.”
“Wonderful!”
The restaurant grew lively again.
Though the villains were cunning, the righteous sects had prevailed.
“Let’s drink!”
Even Su Youwei’s eyes sparkled as she tugged Bai Lian’s sleeve.
“Elder Martial Sister, will Shifu and Master Yan Yue be safe?”
Bai Lian’s expression remained neutral.
Seeing the Third Younger Martial Sister’s hopeful eyes, she nodded gently. “That’s right.”
But internally, her thoughts stormed.
Damn it!
The Youming Ghost Sect was supposed to be a mid-game villain!
The Duxian sect had suffered greatly and was even destroyed by them in several storylines.
Yet now, they’d been eliminated before regaining their strength.
Bai Lian felt confused.
A major story arc had been resolved prematurely.
“What happened?”
She shook her head privately. No use wondering about it.
It wasn’t her problem anyway!
Generally, this was positive. The Youming Ghost Sect’s destruction meant fewer crises for the Duxian sect. Wasn’t that good?
In high spirits, Bai Lian decided to order more peanuts.
Suddenly, a man appeared at the door.
“What happened?”
He looked surprised.
Bai Lian looked up.
Oh, an acquaintance!
Martial Brother Zhao of the Tianji sect. She’d met him in Gray Wind Town a year ago while searching for her Third Martial Sister.
