Chapter 10: I Will Become You! (1)
The internal demon stood motionless.
Its dark, inky eyes, heavy as stones, suddenly shimmered, sending ripples through the void.
Tick.
The waves rippled through Su Youwei’s sea of divine sense. A mechanical voice echoed from all directions:
“Did you know that for a qualified internal demon, the most valuable thing is hope!?”
The tone carried an air of cruel irony, like dark humor given life.
The internal demon laughed—a sharp, unnatural sound. Its jagged teeth, reminiscent of saw blades, made the laughter feel more like a threat.
Because it was a threat.
It was an internal demon, after all.
Most internal demons are born of fear, hatred, violence, and cowardice—a cocktail of ugliness. These emotions swirl together into a vast, black void, like an endless, suffocating forest.
There is no light in this place.
Only cold and darkness.
Warmth?
That belongs exclusively to the outside world.
In a realm so barren and desolate, it is no surprise that an internal demon, born of such despair, would be “ugly.”
After all…
“It’s not my fault—it’s the world that’s wrong!”
But despite its ugliness, it clings to one thing: hope.
You could call it desire instead.
The internal demon also dreams of a beautiful face.
It also yearns for invincible power.
It also craves the freedom to bask in the sun’s warm embrace.
It desires all this and more.
And so, it fights.
It seeks to destroy its master’s spirit and will, hoping that one day it can drag its master fully into the darkness, to take over and become the one in control.
“Look at the abyss you’ve created—this is where I’ve always lived. One day, you’ll become me!”
Such is the triumphant cry of the internal demon.
For a long time, Su Youwei’s internal demon carried this same expectation.
Its gaze burned with murderous intent.
Every swing of Su Youwei’s sword, every life she took, fed the internal demon’s strength.
It grew stronger and stronger, convinced that the day it would replace her was drawing near.
But then, something unexpected happened.
That day, snow fell in the desert.
It was the first time the internal demon had witnessed snow in such a barren place.
Yet this snow wasn’t soft or pure—it carried with it the weight of killing intent.
Snowflakes drifted down, turning the world into a land of frost and ice.
In this frozen landscape, Su Youwei, while searching for the relics of the immortal, was ambushed.
Her attackers?
Over a dozen Soul Changing Stage cultivators, accompanied by two Transcendency Stage masters.
Even with her killing spirit fierce enough to dye the moon red, Su Youwei could not hold out. Exhaustion consumed her, and she fell.
As the coolness of the night seeped into her body, it also reached the internal demon.
Death loomed.
The darkness thickened, becoming even more suffocating.
For the first time, the internal demon felt fear.
It knew not every internal demon succeeded in taking over their master. Many met their end along with their host—it was an accepted fate.
Resigned, the internal demon awaited its demise.
But death never came.
It didn’t know what had happened, but it found itself reborn alongside Su Youwei.
There is hope as long as one is alive!
Bolstered by this second chance, the internal demon resumed its struggle for dominance.
But the reprieve was short-lived.
Before it could fully recover, a woman named Bai Lian appeared.
This woman was more terrifying than any internal demon.
With ease, she shattered the protective shell Su Youwei had built around her heart and entered it, not as a threat, but as an almost divine presence.
The internal demon was dumbfounded.
It could sense that this woman would one day shatter its ambitions, crush its dreams, and extinguish its hope.
It was unwilling to accept this fate.
As a reborn internal demon, wasn’t it destined to rise above all others? Wasn’t it the chosen one among its kind?
How could it meet such an end?
Determined, the internal demon resolved to outwit Bai Lian.
But then, another accident occurred.
Under Bai Lian’s influence, Su Youwei devised an absurd method and created a new internal demon.
When the genuine internal demon first laid eyes on this “Internal Demon Bai Lian,” it was filled with shock.
Impossible.
Absolutely impossible.
This… This wasn’t an internal demon at all!
If people could create internal demons through sheer imagination, no one would ever fall victim to them again.
Moreover, this so-called internal demon was nothing like the genuine article.
Her skin was flawless, her figure stunning—slim waist, long legs, and an air of elegance. She even had a habit of walking barefoot.
What kind of internal demon was this?
This wasn’t just unusual; it was insulting.
The genuine internal demon fought back with all its might.
It challenged the sham internal demon to countless battles and even defeated it repeatedly.
But as time passed, the tide began to turn.
The counterfeit internal demon, backed by Su Youwei’s resolve, gained strength.
Eventually, the genuine internal demon was forced into a corner—a mere ten feet of Su Youwei’s sea of divine sense.
Desperate, it tried a new tactic: persuasion.
It warned Su Youwei that this counterfeit internal demon was deceitful. Beneath her gentle demeanor lay malicious intent.
But Su Youwei wouldn’t listen.
“Don’t think you can deceive me!”
Who would trust the words of an internal demon bent on taking over their body?
Besides, was it wrong?
After all, Su Youwei knew everything the internal demon did.
Defeated time and again, the genuine internal demon eventually gave up its fight.
It retreated to its corner, resigned to wait for hope to come again.
But then, Su Youwei did the unthinkable.
She decided to eliminate it completely.
The internal demon couldn’t accept this.
It might be an internal demon, but it had emotions—human emotions.
And those emotions made it cling even harder to its existence.
It had spent its entire life fighting for survival against its master.
To die at her hands? That was acceptable.
But to be destroyed by some counterfeit born of imagination?
Unforgivable.
“We’ve fought side by side. In your darkest moments, I was the one who kept you going,” the internal demon’s voice rang out after a long silence.
“But it’s over now.”
“We are enemies. Fate has decreed that only one of us can survive.”
“I am your internal demon. I am not your nanny!”
Its gaze softened, and the ferocity in its face faded.
For a moment, it looked almost gentle.
A gentle, homicidal sister.
