Chapter 6: Your Elder Martial Sister Is Your Elder Martial Sister! (2)
She wondered how many alchemists had come here.
She also wondered how many cultivators, eager to buy medical pills, had been drawn in.
These days, the Chuncao Pavilion, an otherwise ordinary alchemy sect, had been in the limelight for quite some time, overshadowing its sworn rivals.
“This marketing method is indeed clever.”
Shortly after, a disciple from the Chuncao Pavilion hurried to Bai Lian and handed her a piece of paper.
“This is the incomplete ancient elixir’s prescription.”
“Thank you.”
Bai Lian examined the prescription and confirmed that it had not been tampered with. Satisfied, she passed it to her second younger Martial Sister.
Though it was just a sheet of paper, Xiao Jinse felt its weight.
She loved alchemy and possessed a budding talent for it. However, as a novice, she lacked the confidence to complete such a complex prescription.
Sensing her hesitation, Bai Lian reached out and patted her head. “How can you know if you don’t try? Anyway, we have plenty of time. I’ll support you. Just focus on studying it.”
“Yes, Elder Martial Sister,” Xiao Jinse replied, lowering her head in shame.
When will I ever be as confident as Martial Sister Bai Lian? Compared to her, I feel so inadequate.
What Xiao Jinse didn’t know was that Bai Lian wasn’t as confident as she seemed. She simply excelled at hiding her doubts. Not even An Lan knew Bai Lian’s true strength.
“I wonder if Martial Sister He, the successor of the Taixuan Needle, could complete this. If she can’t, I’ll ask Shifu. And if Shifu doesn’t know…”
Then I’ll have to find another way.
Maybe I can exchange it for one of Master An Lan’s magic array flags.
Bai Lian didn’t want to resort to theft or robbery—it was far too dangerous. If caught, she’d be finished.
“Let’s go back for now.”
Bai Lian led her younger Martial Sisters out of the Chuncao Pavilion. However, they hadn’t walked far when a commotion broke out.
“Taoist Lingye!”
“What, Taoist Lingye?”
“Where? Where?”
“Over there!”
The sudden noise gathered into a crescendo, and the street outside the Chuncao Pavilion became crowded.
Bai Lian frowned, stuck in the chaos. “Taoist Lingye? Who’s that?”
A soft laugh reached her ears. The voice sounded familiar.
Bai Lian turned quickly. “Miss Yu Ying.”
Amid the bustling crowd, a blindfolded girl stood calmly under the eaves, her serene demeanor starkly contrasting with the excitement around her.
Bai Lian approached her. “Why are you here?”
Yu Ying regained her composure. “I’m looking for the sword owner. Where there are crowds, I’ll often be.”
“I see.”
Yu Ying added, “You’re not from Heluo, are you?”
Bai Lian’s heart skipped a beat. “Is it that obvious?”
“Yes, because you don’t know Taoist Lingye.”
Yu Ying raised her hand slightly, revealing a glimpse of the broken sword hidden in her sleeve.
“Taoist Lingye is a renowned alchemist near Hening City. Born to a mortal family, he achieved great success in alchemy through sheer determination. He’s considered the pinnacle of inspiration for alchemists in Heluo Country.”
Yu Ying’s voice trembled slightly, as if moved by the tale of Taoist Lingye’s perseverance.
Bai Lian followed her gaze and spotted an elderly man standing atop a simple flying sword.
This is Taoist Lingye!
His bright eyes sparkled as a faint smile curved his lips. With his right hand, he gently stroked his white beard.
Amid cheers and applause, Taoist Lingye descended at the entrance of the Chuncao Pavilion. The sect’s steward greeted him with great respect.
After exchanging pleasantries, Taoist Lingye addressed the crowd.
“Thank you all for your enthusiasm. Today, I’ve come to complete the ancient elixir’s prescription.”
The street erupted with excitement.
“Yes! Now I can witness Taoist Lingye’s Nine Dragons Pill Lifting Skill!”
“With Taoist Lingye here, there’s no point in competing. Let’s save our materials.”
Taoist Lingye chuckled and raised a hand. “I know many of you are interested in the Green Grain Cauldron. However, I must apologize—I feel a destined connection to it. Thus, I’ll be claiming it as my own.”
With that, he strode confidently into the Chuncao Pavilion, leaving the crowd in stunned silence.
Bai Lian blinked in disbelief.
Are you really that confident?
Moments later, the street buzzed again with chatter.
“That’s it for us. We can’t compete with Taoist Lingye.”
“Master Lingye, please accept me as your disciple!”
Yu Ying sighed. “This is the power of example. Taoist Lingye has single-handedly advanced alchemy in Heluo Country. Though his arrogance is undeniable, he’s earned the admiration he receives.”
Bai Lian didn’t reply, her attention drawn to her second younger Martial Sister, who stood trembling beside her.
Worried, Bai Lian moved to comfort her, but the third younger Martial Sister stepped forward instead.
“What are you so afraid of?” Su Youwei sneered, crossing her arms. She squinted at Xiao Jinse. “Second Elder Martial Sister, don’t make me look down on you.”
“…”
Xiao Jinse’s lips parted slightly.
Am I being mocked by the third younger Martial Sister?
Her initial worry gave way to a sudden calm.
Fine. Stupid woman, I’ll prove to you that I deserve to be your Elder Martial Sister!
