Chapter 5: I Have Traveled All Over the World to Find the Master of the Sword (2)
It had only been a few months, and Si Yunshang had already become an Elder of the Linggxu sect.
Once she completely recovered her strength, no one in the Duxian sect, except An Lan, would be able to match her.
Danger!
It was hard to be a good person.
Bai Lian despondently sent Gu Quan away. As he departed, Gu Quan was still boasting about himself.
“He’s not wrong. He really does know everything about this city,” Bai Lian muttered.
Suddenly, a clear voice broke into her thoughts.
She turned and saw a young girl seated behind a roadside stall.
The girl looked unusual. She wore a simple Taoist robe and sat in a lotus position on a piece of cloth with a calmness far beyond her age. When silent, she resembled a stone sculpture.
The only item on the stall before her was a broken sword wrapped in cloth. The sword appeared to have been unearthed from the ground—badly rusted, with the dragon pattern on the hilt faded and blurred.
But what caught the most attention were her eyes.
Xiao Jinse pointed to the black cloth covering the girl’s eyes.
“Blind?”
Bai Lian knew what her second younger Martial Sister was thinking.
The girl spoke before anyone else could. “Hee hee, you guessed wrong!”
Bai Lian asked, “What do you mean?”
The girl replied, “My eyes are normal, even better than most people.”
“Ah?” Xiao Jinse asked, puzzled. “Then why do you cover your eyes?”
Even Su Youwei, though silent, looked curious.
The girl patted her hands lightly. “My eyes are blind, but my heart isn’t. I don’t want my eyes to affect my judgment.”
Bai Lian furrowed her brow. “???”
A riddler too?
Fortunately, the girl explained further.
She gestured toward the sword. “Do you see this sword?”
“Yes.”
“I’m looking for its owner!” the young girl declared.
Before Bai Lian could respond, laughter erupted from nearby stall operators.
“Haha, Miss Yu Ying is joking again. You’ve said this to hundreds of people already. Even if you gave away that broken sword, no one would want it. Stop wasting your efforts.”
Yu Ying, the girl being ridiculed, remained unfazed.
Placing her hand gently on the rusted hilt of the sword, she spoke as though addressing Bai Lian and herself at the same time.
“I left Tianyi City a year ago and have traveled all over the world searching for a master for this sword. But alas, even after journeying across all of Heluo Country, I still haven’t found one.”
Curious, Xiao Jinse asked, “What kind of master are you looking for?”
A nearby stall owner chuckled. “Miss Yu Ying says she wants to find a swordmaster whose heart is as clear as glass and whose demeanor shines like an eternal bright lamp.”
Yu Ying smiled but said nothing. It saved her the trouble of explaining.
“Would you like to try?” she asked. “Maybe you can.”
Xiao Jinse glanced at Su Youwei, who quickly turned her head away.
I won’t try, Su Youwei thought. She had the Ten Thousand Poison Pearl, and a broken sword like that held no appeal for her.
Xiao Jinse sighed inwardly. Even though she wasn’t particularly interested in the sword, she admired Yu Ying’s persistence.
I’ll try.
“How do I try?” Xiao Jinse asked.
“Just place your hand on the sword,” Yu Ying said calmly.
Bai Lian stayed silent as a task suddenly appeared before her:
Task 1: Take the second younger Martial Sister away (Reward: Lang Huan Lei Yin)
Task 2: Promise to try the sword (Reward: Soft Skill +2)
Bai Lian frowned. The Lang Huan Lei Yin was a powerful attack skill, comparable to a top-grade spirit tool.
Why would there be such a big risk just for taking her second younger Martial Sister away?
“Wait,” Bai Lian said, stopping her second younger Martial Sister.
Her eyes locked onto Yu Ying’s serene face. The black cloth seemed like a vortex drawing her in.
Leave?
For a fleeting moment, Bai Lian felt that leaving would mean losing something important.
Her intuition had always been sharp—so sharp it often surprised her.
Fine. I’ll trust it again.
Smiling brightly, she said, “Let me try first.”
“Oh.” Xiao Jinse stepped aside to let her pass.
“Please!” Yu Ying said.
She didn’t care who went first. All that mattered was finding the sword’s true master.
Bai Lian knelt before the stall, rolled up her sleeve, and slowly reached out.
She moved as cautiously as if testing hot water.
As her hand inched closer, Yu Ying instinctively leaned forward.
Although her eyes were covered, her heart “saw” clearly.
In the boundless darkness, droplets of bright white light suddenly fell from the sky.
Could it be…
Yu Ying held her breath. Her heart pounded faster, almost bursting from her chest.
She reached desperately toward the light, the flower of hope.
But then, the light vanished.
After all, it was only firewood. Firewood could never burn away the endless night.
Yu Ying’s body stilled, her excitement replaced by calm resignation.
“Am I not worthy?” Bai Lian asked, unable to decipher Yu Ying’s expression.
Yu Ying remained silent.
“I’ll try,” Xiao Jinse said, stepping forward. She placed her hand on the sword, but nothing happened.
Frowning, she asked, “Am I not worthy either?”
“No, you’re not,” Yu Ying replied softly.
Her voice, which had been lifeless earlier, now carried a subtle vibrancy.
Meeting Bai Lian had reignited her hope. Somewhere in Heluo Country, the sword’s master existed! She had failed thus far only because she hadn’t been persistent enough.
Yu Ying smiled gently. “Thank you for rekindling my hope. If you ever need information, feel free to ask. I’ll be here for a while.”
Bai Lian nodded. “I’ll take you up on that offer.”
Though they hadn’t claimed the sword, it wasn’t a bad outcome. At least Bai Lian could save the spirit stones she had planned to spend on buying information.
In high spirits, Bai Lian led her younger Martial Sisters toward the inn.
