Chapter 31: Come On, the Red-haired Big Sister! (2)
Fame and wealth?
She had never been one to pursue such things. She wasn’t even interested in cultivation. She was just a “salted fish,” drifting with the tide.
But she knew her sister was showing her affection.
Let it go.
Anyway, she was just shouting—it couldn’t possibly affect the battle over there.
—
Nishang stopped.
She gasped, her entire body drenched as if she had just been fished out of the water.
Her body was uncomfortable.
But her heart? That was worse.
Her persistence was meaningless. She had bet that Bai Lian would show weakness, but she was disappointed.
Bai Lian was so steady.
She stood there like an unscalable tower, tall and unwavering.
Sure enough, it’s pointless to keep going. I can’t win.
Nishang couldn’t help but recall the words she had said to Bai Lian not long ago:
“I will fight until you draw your sword!”
What a joke.
Si Yunshang was right—Bai Lian truly deserved admiration.
But…
Nishang knew she didn’t like Si Yunshang. In fact, she didn’t like anyone. Still, this left her feeling uncomfortable.
It was as though something had been dislodged.
Empty.
It was so hard to find someone who truly understood her.
Why? Why did it have to turn out this way?
“I… I really am a useless person,” she murmured.
Give in.
If she continued, her Tao heart might break.
In the chaos of self-doubt, Nishang’s right hand slowly lowered.
Dong!
The lance’s body struck the ground, creating a web of fine cracks across its surface.
Amid the sound of wind and snow, Nishang heard something else—a faint cry carried by the storm.
“Come on, red-haired big sister!”
Red-haired big sister?
Was that… her?
Nishang froze, quickly releasing her Divine Sense. Through the swirling snow, she saw a little girl standing on the snow-covered mountain.
The child seemed to be watching the battle. Despite the snowflakes piling on her head, her face was red as she shouted,
“Come on! Come on!
Believe in yourself!
Red-haired big sister, you can do it! Don’t be defeated by yourself!”
In that moment, Nishang’s heart quivered, and the world seemed to slow.
There was silence.
The little girl’s figure was etched deeply into Nishang’s memory. Her eyebrows, her eyes, her nose, her mouth—every feature was vivid.
Nishang clenched her jaw.
When she didn’t believe in herself, this little girl had been cheering her on.
The child was so small, yet so brave.
And what about me?
Nishang raised her hand, pressing it against her chest. Her heartbeat was there but faint, far weaker than it had once been.
Then, Bai Lian’s voice rang out once more:
“Do you want to continue?”
Even her opponent didn’t think she had lost. Yet here she was, ready to concede.
This version of me doesn’t deserve Si Yunshang’s attention.
She could lose—but she couldn’t lose to herself!
For herself, for Si Yunshang, for the little girl cheering her on, and for Bai Lian, a worthy opponent, she would reclaim her pride.
Nishang gripped her lance once again, as if holding an entire world that had shattered and was now being reassembled.
In that moment, a beam of light shot skyward from her lance.
In that moment, Nishang’s red hair floated in the air.
In that moment, her heart thundered like a war drum.
In that moment, Nishang was ablaze.
Crimson flames erupted from deep within her, igniting everything around her—ghosts, Magic Tools, runes, snow, storms, and even her will.
Amid a piercing cry, Bai Lian saw the black-and-white underworld regain its vibrant color.
The world came alive once more.
Nishang swung her lance, charging at Bai Lian like a tireless warrior.
She knew she might not defeat Bai Lian. Her cultivation base remained unchanged, despite her renewed spirit.
But what of it?
Glory belongs to me!
She had given her all. The outcome was for the heavens to decide.
She sought only one thing: to have no regrets.
