Chapter 30: Who Is This Demon Woman? (2)
As the morning sun rose, casting a warm glow over the towering snow mountain, Bai Lian froze mid-step.
Someone was there!
A woman stood before her, dressed in a mink coat that clung tightly to her body.
Bai Lian recognized her immediately. She had appeared at the ceremony not long ago, representing the Niguang Mountain and presenting gifts alongside the Lingxu Sect.
It seemed like she was waiting for Bai Lian.
Damn.
Had the evil forces of the Demon Sects finally caught sight of her?
When Bai Lian came to a halt, the woman emerged from the swirling snowstorm.
Her hat, dotted with snowflakes, only added to her imposing presence.
“Bai Lian?”
Her voice was clear and crisp.
But Bai Lian could already sense that this encounter was bound to lead to a “heart-to-heart” conversation.
She kept her face calm, however.
The fiery energy surrounding the Yu Ying Sword easily deflected the spiritual arrows mixed with the voice.
–Boom!
A burst of white light appeared, and in an instant, the snow transformed into scalding rain.
The explosion was so violent that it caused the snow on the mountain to slip away.
It was an avalanche!
Bai Lian spoke, her voice cutting through the chaos. “Indeed. Won’t you give your name?”
Her words were powerful enough to make the tumbling snow and stones halt in midair.
For a moment, only the sound of the wind could be heard on the snowy mountain.
The woman’s face flushed slightly, and she appeared a bit plump. She extended her right hand, and suddenly a long black lance appeared, towering above her by two heads.
“I’m Nishang of the Niguang Mountain!”
This time, her voice lacked its earlier penetrating clarity.
But as her words faded, dozens of pots, each with a strange red rune painted on them, flew out from behind her.
Snowy fog wrapped around the red symbols, and in an instant, the winds and clouds began to twist.
Bai Lian found herself engulfed in a world of blood-red hues.
The pots and Nishang were no longer before her. Instead, she was surrounded by withered bones and countless dark shadows swirling around her.
It was a ghost-type Spirit Tool!
Bai Lian’s brows furrowed slightly. Nishang’s “Qi” wasn’t as dense as the eldest princess’ Qi, but the eldest princess had never truly revealed her full strength when they fought. So Bai Lian wasn’t certain if she could defeat Nishang.
Just then, a new task option appeared before her.
[Task 1: Stand up and fight with Nishang for 300 rounds (Reward: Hard Skill+8)]
[Task 2: Admit defeat on the spot (Reward: a piece of Foundation Establishment Pill)]
“Huh?”
Bai Lian stared in disbelief at the task options and rewards, momentarily losing focus on Nishang’s true location.
It was the first time she had seen skill point rewards ranked above others.
The reasoning behind this was simple.
At her current strength, the Foundation Establishment Pill was nothing more than a mere treat—like a sugar bean. But improving her Hard Skill by 8 points was a real challenge.
However, were these task options really in the right order?
Why was admitting defeat considered the less dangerous option? Was this Demon Woman actually an honorable foe?
……
Bai Lian’s gaze lingered on the words [Hard Skill+8].
The risk felt manageable.
Good!
Let’s fight!
She chose Task 1.
Three hundred rounds? Fine. Let’s see who will still be standing after that!
Bai Lian clenched her fist.
Just a few days ago, facing Nishang—skilled in ghost cultivation methods—might have been a real challenge for her.
But now, everything had changed.
Although the Eternal Moon Lamp wasn’t as powerful as the pots she saw earlier, it was still a top-quality Magic Tool, capable of helping her resist the ghosts’ attacks.
Her most powerful new spell was [Seeing Through The Void].
To see through voidness, emptiness, and falsity!
The more upright the person, the stronger the [See Through The Void] spell would be.
It was said that a cultivator who reached a high enough level could turn falsehoods into truths and truths into lies.
Though Bai Lian couldn’t do that, she could at least pierce through illusions.
Let’s go!
She focused intently.
Bai Lian activated the spell, and a surge of spiritual power rapidly coursed through her body.
Within a second, silver light began to radiate from her eyes.
“Yin and Yang have no boundaries, and there is a difference between reality and emptiness!”
–Buzz.
The world around Bai Lian shimmered, and the blood-red hue faded away. It shifted to a black-and-white landscape.
Through the heavy shadows, Bai Lian saw Nishang still standing, as though waiting for something.
Bai Lian was momentarily stunned.
Was this Demon Woman truly an honorable person?
If it were her, she would have attacked while her opponent was distracted.
And she’d certainly shout something like, “There’s no need for morality when dealing with a Demon Woman!”
She felt a pang of shame.
Nishang noticed the way Bai Lian looked at her.
She wasn’t angry that Bai Lian had easily seen through the illusion she created.
After all, Bai Lian was a Natural Saint.
Nishang pulled back her hood with her left hand, revealing a cascade of fiery red hair.
She twirled the long lance in her hand and pointed it at Bai Lian.
“It seems you’ve become serious. Draw your sword!”
Bai Lian shook her head. “No.”
She only had two swords.
One was the Dirt Free Sword from Master An Lan, but Bai Lian was hesitant to use it in this battle for fear of it breaking.
The other was the Yu Ying Sword. Though sharp, Bai Lian couldn’t bear to use it in such a bloody fight. That sword should remain close to her heart.
She looked up at Nishang, standing in the air, and spoke calmly, “My fists are enough to deal with you.”
Nishang’s eyelids twitched slightly.
Was she being underestimated?
Her fiery red hair danced like raging flames.
It was burning!
“I will fight until you draw your sword!” Nishang declared.
……
–Meanwhile.
Tens of miles away, two girls were flying a crane eastward.
“Sister, it looks like someone is fighting over there. Should we check it out?”
The older woman thought for a moment before responding, “Only watch. No trouble.”
“Mm-hmm.”
And so, they quickly flew toward the snowy mountain.
