Chapter 27: Fate Is So Wonderful! (2)
This night under the starry sky.
The evening wind blew gently.
In front of the cliff, Bai Lian once again confronted the eldest princess.
“Why are you telling us this?” Bai Lian asked, her tone sharp and probing.
The eldest princess avoided Bai Lian’s piercing gaze. Instead, she directed her eyes toward the distant mountains and rivers, changing the subject deliberately. “What do you think of Heluo?”
Bai Lian replied bluntly, “Very powerful.”
The eldest princess frowned. “I don’t want such a perfunctory answer. You must have seen a lot during your journey from Hening City to Tianyi City.”
If one insists on pursuing the truth, they may end up facing a painful reality.
Bai Lian responded, “This golden age is nothing more than a castle built on air.”
Would cultivators care about the civilians who trade their well-being for survival?
No.
They only care about themselves.
The lives and deaths of ordinary people are mere numbers to them, devoid of significance.
“This is a prosperous time for the few, and a turbulent time for the many. Not only in Heluo Country, but across the entire East Divine Land. It has been so in the past, and it will likely remain so in the future.”
Under her veil, the eldest princess’s lips parted slightly as she gave a bitter smile. “You make my conscience ache.”
Bai Lian narrowed her eyes. “Do you want to change this?”
The eldest princess shook her head. “No, but I do think I could do better than my brother.”
Bai Lian pursed her lips. “Shouting slogans won’t help.”
“I know,” the eldest princess sighed. “No wonder people call you a Natural Saint. If you were the emperor of this country, you could certainly do more—”
Bai Lian cut her off sternly. “You’re flattering me too much. Saving one person is completely different from saving ten thousand. The world doesn’t revolve around you or me.”
The eldest princess remained silent, her lips pressed into a thin line.
“I see through your scheme,” Bai Lian said coldly.
It was obvious—she wanted to use Bai Lian. Use her connection to Yu Ying to ignite a conflict with Marquis Wu’an and the emperor of Heluo Country. If Bai Lian clashed with them, the eldest princess would surely watch from the sidelines, applauding.
To say Bai Lian wasn’t angry would be a lie.
Yet, when she thought of Yu Ying, she pushed her fury aside.
If the eldest princess hadn’t appeared, it would have been nearly impossible to untangle the knot in Yu Ying’s heart.
Priorities. First, she would handle Marquis Wu’an. Then, she would teach the eldest princess a lesson.
The eldest princess smiled faintly. “I guess you knew. Honestly, I said I liked you at first just to catch your attention, but now…”
She paused before continuing. “Now, I am truly interested in you. You are the most remarkable person I’ve ever met.”
Ah.
Bai Lian’s expression remained indifferent.
Not interested.
The eldest princess?
Just a scheming woman.
She wasn’t about to ignore her adorable Martial Sisters and throw herself into the eldest princess’s arms.
Her heart belonged to Qiongming Peak.
There, she didn’t have to engage in endless battles or navigate webs of deceit.
She simply guided her younger Martial Sisters, cultivating alongside them in peace.
Even her bitter memories with her master were sweet in hindsight.
Thinking of her younger Martial Sisters, a sudden figure flickered in Bai Lian’s mind.
She asked, “Let me ask you one last question.”
“Go ahead,” the eldest princess said.
“Is there a female disciple named Ye Ziling in Xingluo Fortress?” Bai Lian inquired.
She had already made up her mind.
The fates of her and her Martial Sisters were deeply intertwined. Instead of waiting another year, it was better to reunite with her Fourth Martial Sister now and spare her unnecessary suffering.
If the eldest princess could help, so be it. Bai Lian wasn’t planning to offer any gifts in exchange—her goodwill alone was generous enough.
The eldest princess furrowed her brows. “Ye Ziling?”
Her expression subtly shifted.
Bai Lian pressed on. “Is Ye Ziling famous in Xingluo Fortress?”
“No.” The eldest princess shook her head. Her tone turned odd. “There is no female disciple named Ye Ziling in Xingluo Fortress.”
“Huh?”
Bai Lian froze.
Wasn’t the Fourth Martial Sister supposed to be there?
“Are you sure?”
The eldest princess nodded firmly. “The disciples of Xingluo Fortress are few. I wouldn’t forget. But…”
“?!”
“You really don’t know Yu Ying’s real name?”
Bai Lian’s heart sank. Something wasn’t right.
The eldest princess sighed. “Yu Ying’s real name is Ye Ziling. You’ve been with her all this time, and you didn’t even know her real name?”
Her tone turned mocking, and she began to ramble, clearly relishing the opportunity to tease Bai Lian.
But Bai Lian had stopped listening.
Yu Ying = Ye Ziling = Fourth Martial Sister?
This equation…
Bai Lian stood frozen, nearly petrified.
By the way…
The pieces fell into place.
From the very first moment she met Yu Ying, Bai Lian had felt a strange sense of familiarity.
Blue hair?
That was the trademark of the Fourth Martial Sister in the game.
A disciple of Xingluo Fortress?
If Bai Lian hadn’t intervened, Yu Ying would have been saved by the eldest princess and sent there.
Always searching for a sword?
Without Bai Lian’s interference, Yu Ying would have lost her sword and begun a lifelong quest to recover it.
It was fate!
Bai Lian clenched her fists tightly. No wonder the system had triggered a task when she first encountered Yu Ying.
Unlike her Second and Third Martial Sisters, the Fourth Martial Sister’s backstory in the game was painfully simple, only mentioning her rescue by An Lan from Xingluo Fortress.
Bai Lian never expected her past to be this complex and tragic.
Looking back, it made sense.
The Fourth Martial Sister rarely spoke about her feelings. Add to that the constant bullying she endured in the game, and it was no wonder she wouldn’t share her pain.
Now, however, things were different.
Bai Lian felt a surge of gratitude. If she hadn’t come to Tianyi City for the ceremony, she wouldn’t have met Yu Ying before her heart was scarred.
“I’m not mad at you anymore,” Bai Lian suddenly said, her lips curving into a smile.
The eldest princess blinked in confusion.
“Thank you!”
Before the eldest princess could respond, Bai Lian bowed deeply and ran off toward where Yu Ying was.
