Chapter 27: Fate Is So Wonderful! (1)
Yu Ying felt as though she was about to burst into flames.
Yet, it wasn’t her body that would ignite from friction—it was her heart, ready to blaze with warmth!
A light flickered to life in the boundless darkness. At this moment, she was soaring thousands of feet above the ground.
The shield formed by spirit Qi shielded her from the howling wind, enveloping her in warmth and comfort.
For the first time in her life, she was experiencing the freedom to gaze down at the sturdy earth, a land rich with countless stories.
For the first time, she felt unshackled from the chains that had bound her for so many years.
This freedom was a gift from Bai Lian.
If it weren’t for her, Yu Ying would have perished at the hands of assassins sent by her elder sister.
Had she been saved by the eldest princess instead, she would now be en route to Xingluo Fortress.
To others, the chance to cultivate at Xingluo Fortress might seem like a rare blessing.
But to Yu Ying, it wasn’t what she wanted.
She longed to wake from the nightmare that had trapped her for seventeen years, yearning to find her true self.
Time after time, she’d awakened, only to fall back into the same nightmare.
Even now, she feared that this might all be a dream.
So many times before, her hopes had shattered into despair.
Perhaps when she opened her eyes again, all she would find was that rusty old sword by her side.
She feared there had never been a girl named Miss An Yue.
She feared that Miss An Yue would never transform into the legendary Bai Lian, offering her salvation.
But this time… this time, something was different.
“It’s the warmth of a heart.”
Yu Ying pressed her hand to her chest.
This warmth wasn’t just her own—it was Bai Lian’s, a comfort she could never have imagined in her worst nightmares.
She turned to glance at Bai Lian.
Her eyes landed on the calm profile of Bai Lian’s face.
Yu Ying loved seeing her smile, but there was something even more enchanting about Bai Lian’s calmness—still and steady, like the depths of an icy lake.
This serenity was her truest form.
Bai Lian noticed Yu Ying’s gaze and softly spoke.
“I’m very happy,” she said.
Yu Ying’s heart warmed at the words. She nodded, answering with quiet conviction.
“Believe me, this happiness isn’t fleeting. More will come, wave after wave, like the tide.”
Yu Ying held Bai Lian’s hand firmly, her trust unwavering.
Since Bai Lian had helped her so much, how could she doubt her now?
Looking up at the bright moon, Yu Ying made a silent wish:
If wishes could come true, she wished this moment could last forever.
—
The eldest princess led the way ahead.
She was aware—acutely aware—of the bond between Bai Lian and Yu Ying.
But she… she didn’t wish to intervene.
No, she would rather sink into the earth than remain a witness to their tenderness.
Thankfully, the journey was nearing its end.
After crossing the vast plain, they reached their destination:
A mountain split in two by an immense and boundless force.
This place was once home to a cultivation sect.
Over a decade ago, at the emperor’s command, tens of thousands of Shadow Guards stormed the mountain, led by Transcendency Stage cultivators.
Despite their valiant resistance, the sect was destroyed.
“Marquis Wu’an didn’t kill everyone,” the eldest princess began, her voice calm yet heavy with history.
She recounted the tale of Canglong Garden, the sect that once stood here.
The emperor’s obsession with domination drove him to order its destruction. Rumors of a black dragon’s bloodline had reached his ears, and he couldn’t ignore the potential power.
Marquis Wu’an used the sect leader’s infant daughter to force him to reveal his secrets.
Despite enduring unimaginable torture, the sect leader finally yielded—not for himself, but for his child.
—
Yu Ying’s heart ached as she listened.
The child in the story was her.
The man she had called “Father” for so many years had, in truth, been her greatest enemy.
She stared at the ruins below, the weight of this truth pressing down on her.
But she refused to yield to the sadness.
Bai Lian stood silently by her side, watching over her.
If they were alone, Bai Lian might have embraced her, gently patting her back while saying:
“Don’t hold it in. Let yourself cry—it will ease the pain.”
Or, with a playful tone, she might have added:
“If you think of me as your mother, there’s no need to feel embarrassed. But only tonight!”
Yet, with the eldest princess watching, Bai Lian held back.
Instead, she took Yu Ying’s hand in hers, conveying her silent support.
“I’m here with you,” her touch seemed to say.
Yu Ying’s sadness was momentarily broken by the cold yet comforting sensation of Bai Lian’s hand.
This nightmare was bearable because Bai Lian was by her side.
“I have a few words to say to the eldest princess alone,” Bai Lian said, lightly scratching Yu Ying’s palm.
“Can you wait for me here?”
Yu Ying nodded resolutely.
“I’ll wait for you!”
To her, Bai Lian’s decision to speak to her first wasn’t just consideration—it was respect.
And the only way Yu Ying could repay that respect was with her unwavering trust.
