Chapter 23: Miss Yu Ying, I Am Bai Lian! (2)
—
The Eldest Princess?
Bai Lian’s ears twitched.
The data of the Eldest Princess flashed through her mind: the younger sister of the emperor, a descendant of Xingluo Fortress. Of course, such a woman must be rich.
On behalf of the Duxian Sect, Bai Lian had come to participate in the Eldest Princess’s ceremony. Unexpectedly, they met in advance before even arriving at Tianyi City. Fate worked in mysterious ways.
After learning the woman’s true identity, Bai Lian felt less tense.
It was said the Eldest Princess had broken through the Eight Ways of Nature by cultivating the secret methods of Xingluo Fortress. Bai Lian wondered just how strong the princess really was. Judging by her aura, she had already reached the Soul Changing Stage.
While Bai Lian considered these details, Yu Ying emerged from the courtyard in a hurry.
There was no mistaking it.
Yu Ying’s gaze landed on the veiled woman hovering in the sky—the most renowned figure in Heluo of late. Her face paled.
Yu Ying had expected her sister to continue sending people after her. She even thought her father might personally intervene. But she had never imagined the Eldest Princess herself would come.
This wasn’t just a personal matter anymore. If they resisted, they’d become enemies of the entire Heluo Kingdom!
If she were alone, Yu Ying wouldn’t have minded. Even if she died, it wouldn’t matter.
But now there was Miss An.
Miss An was risking everything to help her escape. She couldn’t let her down.
As Yu Ying’s thoughts spiraled, the Eldest Princess’s cold, commanding voice echoed:
“You seem to be enjoying your life.”
Yu Ying trembled. “I…”
The princess interrupted her, voice sharp as a blade:
“I didn’t come to hear your excuses. I only came to confirm whether you’re alive or dead.”
Yu Ying stared at the princess, confused.
What did she mean?
When the princess raised her hand, Yu Ying panicked and shouted, “Miss An, run!”
But Bai Lian didn’t move. She knew the attack wasn’t aimed at her.
Her Divine Sense swept out, detecting activity hundreds of miles away in Tianyi City.
There, under the stars, sharp beams of light rained down.
A woman in her boudoir, casually eating peaches, froze mid-bite. A second later, her right arm was severed.
“Ahhhhhh!”
Her screams shattered the silence of the night as servants and guards poured in from every corner.
The Eldest Princess’s expression remained indifferent, as if she had done nothing of consequence.
She said coldly, “This is a lesson for those who break the rules. As for you, staying here serves no purpose. Go to Xingluo Fortress to cultivate. That is my decree. Marquis Wu’an will not object.”
A maid in red threw a letter toward Yu Ying.
Just as it was about to reach her, Bai Lian snatched it mid-air.
“Have you ever asked Miss Yu Ying for her opinion?”
The princess hesitated. Then, as if understanding something, she said, “I see.”
But before she could say more, the red maid pointed at Bai Lian, scolding, “How dare you! How dare you question the Eldest Princess!”
Bai Lian turned her cold gaze to the maid. Her voice was icy, “Can you make that decision?”
The maid felt a chill run down her spine, as though a sword rested against her neck. Still, she insisted, “What if I can’t?”
“Then shut up!” Bai Lian snapped.
The times had changed, foolish woman!
In the past, Bai Lian might have avoided confrontation with Nascent Soul cultivators, but now, ten such maids together wouldn’t pose a challenge.
The maid opened her mouth to argue further but was cut off when a Water Spear formed in mid-air, aimed directly at her.
It was an old spell of Bai Lian’s—Water Dragon Durance.
The red maid froze, locked in place by the spell. Any attempt to counter it was easily suppressed. In desperation, she screamed, “Eldest Princess, help me!”
The princess frowned slightly but eventually used her Divine Sense to disperse the spell.
“You must be no ordinary person to wield such strength,” the princess said, her tone measured.
The entire exchange had unfolded so quickly that Yu Ying barely had time to process it. Her heart raced as she cried out, “Eldest Princess, please forgive her! Miss An only wanted to protect me. This is my fault—I’ll go to Xingluo Fortress willingly. Just please, don’t hurt her!”
Bai Lian turned Yu Ying around, making her face her directly.
Her tone was firm, “Miss Yu, from now on, you only need to think of yourself.”
“But…” Yu Ying hesitated.
“Do you want to leave with me?” Bai Lian’s gaze pierced straight into Yu Ying’s soul.
Yu Ying’s lips trembled. “I do,” she whispered.
“Then that’s enough for me.” Bai Lian smiled gently, placing a reassuring hand on Yu Ying’s head. “You have nothing to apologize for. Do you remember what I said to you before we parted ways?”
Yu Ying blinked.
“I told you,” Bai Lian continued, “that I never lied to you.”
As Bai Lian spoke, the makeup on her face dissolved. The Magic Tool she had used to disguise herself deactivated, revealing the star-shaped mark beneath her right eye.
Yu Ying’s breath hitched.
A star!
Bai Lian turned away, walking toward the Eldest Princess fearlessly.
Her plain dress transformed into a white Taoist robe that fluttered in the wind, giving her the aura of a celestial being.
Flying swords swirled around her, forming a dazzling Sword Array.
A glowing disk engraved with stars appeared behind her, slowly rotating and casting halos of light.
“The stars…” the Eldest Princess murmured, her expression growing solemn.
At that moment, Yu Ying’s memories clicked into place.
“Miss Yu Ying, I am Bai Lian!”
Miss An wasn’t lying after all.
Tears blurred Yu Ying’s vision as she watched Bai Lian stride forward.
Bai Lian wasn’t just a protector.
She was a legend.
