Chapter 2: I Promise You Thousands of Flowers (2)
The demon resembled a young woman, but in truth, she was an ancient, long-lived witch. She wore a loose black magic robe and wielded a rusty long lance.
It was this simple, unassuming lance that “declared” to the world her origins from ancient times.
The Deacon who delivered the news said the demon had caused havoc in the northern region of Eastern Divine Land. Even the Wushan Holy Palace, one of the top sects, was not spared from her wrath.
Despite their best efforts, the sect failed to suppress the chaos. And so, the dreadful news spread.
On that fateful day, the demon appeared!
Her battle cry overturned mountains and rivers, plunging the world into darkness.
In that fierce confrontation, the demon’s lance was unstoppable. Even the Supreme Elder of the Wushan Holy Palace was powerless against her demonic techniques.
Fortunately, the demon had just awakened, and her bloodlust was subdued. The Wushan Holy Palace and the other sects narrowly escaped annihilation.
When the news broke, the entire Eastern Divine Land trembled. Some dismissed it as a rumor.
“How could the Wushan Holy Palace, one of the four great sects, nearly be destroyed? If it’s true, is this demon as strong as an immortal?”
But the truth could not be denied.
Those who laughed at the news were fools. They would weep when the demon came for them.
Many speculated that only the top two sects among the four great powers might have the strength to confront this ancient demon.
—
The Duxian Sect was deeply shaken.
As soon as Jue Yunzi received the news, he summoned the senior leaders for an urgent meeting. Yet, despite discussing it all morning, they came to no practical conclusion.
What could they do?
The Duxian Sect was no match for an ancient demon. All they could do was pray she wouldn’t come their way.
“Alas,” Jue Yunzi sighed heavily.
A single demon awakens, and thousands more will follow. Is this the beginning of catastrophe?
The only solace Jue Yunzi found was An Lan’s unexpected enthusiasm for the matter. Usually uninterested in such affairs, she now appeared highly motivated.
Younger Martial Sister An Lan does care about the sect’s safety after all!
“A great calamity is upon us. Chaos looms. It’s an eventful autumn!”
—
Bai Lian, having heard the news, couldn’t help but sigh as well.
But unlike the others, she wasn’t overly concerned.
In the game, the Duxian Sect faced several crises, but no ancient demon ever attacked it.
“Don’t let your guard down!” warned Yan Yue.
Bai Lian bowed respectfully. “Yes, Master Yan Yue.”
After Yan Yue departed, Bai Lian turned to her Second Younger Martial Sister and gently patted her head.
“Don’t worry. I’m here. If the demon dares to come, I’ll make sure she never returns.”
“Elder Martial Sister!”
Xiao Jinse beamed with trust and admiration.
She didn’t need any proof; she just believed in Bai Lian’s words.
She was about to respond when a pure white figure appeared behind Bai Lian like a silent specter.
“Master!” Xiao Jinse exclaimed.
Bai Lian turned to see An Lan standing there, her eyebrows tightly furrowed and her cheeks puffed slightly, as if suppressing her anger.
Most notable was her chest—flat as ever but rising and falling slightly in visible irritation.
“?”
Who made Shifu angry?
“Come with me,” An Lan ordered curtly, walking past Bai Lian with heavy steps.
“Yes!”
Bai Lian quickly followed. She had been planning to discuss something with An Lan anyway.
—
Inside the cave, the atmosphere was suffocating.
Depression, Bai Lian thought. Master An Lan is truly upset.
Was it Yan Yue who angered her?
Bai Lian shook her head. Unlikely. If it were Master Yan Yue, An Lan would have been in a good mood afterward. But Yan Yue seemed genuinely worried earlier.
After a moment of silence, An Lan asked, “Have you heard about the ancient demon?”
Bai Lian nodded.
“What do you think?”
Suddenly, the system displayed a set of tasks:
1. “When a demon comes out, the world suffers!”
(Reward: Spell – Emptiness Void)
2. “It’s too horrible!”
(Reward: Middle-grade magic tool – Meteor Hammer)
3. Praise the master and belittle the demon
(Reward: Blue Lightning Leaf)
4. Praise the demon
(Reward: Fei Jade)
What is this absurdity?
Ignoring the first two options, Bai Lian hesitated between Task 3 and Task 4 before ultimately choosing Task 3.
She looked up confidently. “How can the dim fluorescence of rotting grass compare to the bright moon in the sky? If that demon meets you, she’ll be vanquished in an instant!”
This wasn’t just flattery.
If An Lan unsealed her Heavenly Lance, no one in this world could defeat her. The cost, however, would be her spiritual energy leaking and alerting her sworn enemies.
“…”
An Lan stared at Bai Lian, her emotions complex.
Their relationship had grown closer recently, but this wasn’t what she wanted.
Her future was bleak, and anyone tied to her would face the same fate.
“Alas…”
“Master, maintain your dignity!”
An Lan gradually composed herself, her expression as calm as still water.
“I summoned you today to teach you a spell,” she said.
“?”
“Thousands of Flowers.”
Using the power of life to combat death, this was the best technique An Lan could teach Bai Lian for now.
Her voice echoed in the cave, chilling Bai Lian to the bone.
Yet, Bai Lian’s focus was elsewhere.
Thousands of Flowers? Isn’t that the skill that restores massive HP in the game?
She never expected An Lan to teach her such a spell.
Master An Lan does care for me after all!
Bai Lian’s short-term goal was to become the ultimate “Pocket Martial Sisters” trainer. To achieve that, she needed to be as resilient as possible.
