Chapter 15: Yunshan in Yingzhou, a Ten Year Appointment! (1)
This was a gradually decaying body.
Ju Buyi walked up to Zhao Shuo and looked down without saying a word. Zhao Shuo didn’t seem to notice his arrival.
The Sword Bearer had been destroyed. He, as a Scabbard who betrayed his Sword Bearer, had no reason to survive.
Ju Buyi felt no fear, only calm. He no longer wanted what others offered him – strength, wealth, power… None of those mattered. What he wanted was to choose according to his own will.
Just die. He was doomed anyway.
How nice!
Bathing in the bright sunshine and feeling its warmth on his skin, Ju Buyi felt in control of himself for the first time. It was Bai Lian who had given him the courage to make his own choices.
He turned around. When Xiao Jinse had used her Blowing Snow Sword to fight Zhao Shuo, Bai Lian had released the Tianshu Sword Array, and the storm-washed city had recovered its peace.
In this new quiet, the people of Chuncao Pavilion remained silent. But no one paid attention to them. Everyone looked at Xiao Jinse, who held Bai Lian tightly.
“Elder Martial Sister!” the girl cried, her head buried in Bai Lian’s chest as she excitedly moved it from side to side.
They were so affectionate. The onlookers felt envious!
Taoist Lingye sighed with emotion. He thought of his disciples. If only they could be as united as Bai Lian’s younger Martial Sisters.
Su Youwei and the jade rabbit: “Σ (っ° Д °;) っ”
What are you doing in public? Pull your head out of that strange place!
“Are you hurt?” Suddenly, Bai Lian’s hand stopped on Xiao Jinse’s right shoulder.
Xiao Jinse blushed. “Elder Martial Sister, it’s just a minor injury. It’s okay.”
Even a minor injury couldn’t be ignored!
Bai Lian immediately released her Divine Sense to check Xiao Jinse’s body, inside and out, several times. As Xiao Jinse had said, her surface wounds weren’t serious. Most were sword cuts from Zhao Shuo, and some were caused by overloading her magic.
The key was her internal injury. This required rest.
Bai Lian had just learned the spell “Thousands of Flowers” and couldn’t use it to “Blossom” in the Second Martial Sister’s body.
“Go back and rest,” Bai Lian said. “When you recover, your strength should break through to the peak of the Foundation Establishment Stage.”
“Yes.” Xiao Jinse smiled, her eyes sparkling with happiness.
I was hurt, Su Youwei wanted to yell at Xiao Jinse, but she held back. It wasn’t the right time.
The jade rabbit had similar thoughts.
“Almost.” Ju Buyi shook his head and placed his hand on his sword hilt. It was time to find a beautiful place to bury himself.
He turned to leave, but at that moment, a figure flew from a broken wall in Hening city.
Ju Buyi stared. “Bing Yi!”
The bodyguard had returned. His eyes were red, his face stiff, but he bore no scars, and his clothes remained tidy. Though just a cultivator at the “Fake” Soul Changing Stage, it had been easy for him to recover from his previous injuries.
Bing Yi landed on the roof, his indignant eyes darting between Bai Lian and Zhao Shuo.
“Bing Yi, don’t do anything stupid!” Ju Buyi called out urgently. You’re no match for Bai Lian, why humiliate yourself?
“Traitor!” Bing Yi shouted. After scolding Ju Buyi, he pointed at Bai Lian and snarled, “You’re dead!”
He hadn’t wanted to do this, but Zhao Shuo’s Tao heart was suddenly broken, and death by the Sword Washing Pavilion awaited him. Since he was going to die, why not take others with him?
Bing Yi raised a strange sculpture. In the sunlight, he recited a long series of obscure pithy formulas.
“Please, God!” With this cry, the shining silver sculpture burst into dazzling light, completely enveloping hundreds of meters.
Ju Buyi’s face changed. He shouted at Bai Lian, “No! Run!”
This was the magic of the Sword Washing Pavilion – turning the body into a host for the soul of an Elder. Since Bing Yi was so strong, the Elder he summoned must be at the Transcendency Stage.
Though Bai Lian was strong, she had no way to withstand an attack from a Transcendency Stage cultivator, even if it was just a soul.
“Can you escape?” A voice like bursting flames emerged from the light’s center, containing infinite power.
Except for Ju Buyi, Bai Lian, and the younger Martial Sisters she sheltered, everyone present collapsed. The pressure was overwhelming, as if their souls were being squeezed from their flesh. Some bled from their noses; others fainted.
When the light faded, Bing Yi reappeared, transformed. Though his face remained the same, it had become strange. He stood like an upright sword, so powerful that merely touching him seemed deadly.
“Bing Yi” first glanced at Zhao Shuo. “Useless!” In his eyes, a cultivator with a broken Tao heart was no different from a dead man.
He turned to Bai Lian and said mockingly, “One life for another. Hand over your Martial Sister, and I’ll let you go.”
He was imitating Bai Lian’s earlier words to Zhao Shuo. The situation had reversed.
Finished, thought Gu Quan, his headache worsening. Bai Lian couldn’t defeat this Elder of the Sword Washing Pavilion, yet she couldn’t watch her younger Martial Sister die. The Elder dared not kill Bai Lian, but that wouldn’t stop him from preventing her interference.
A one-sided battle was inevitable!
Before Bai Lian could answer, the Elder said, “Think about it. Take your time. I’m not in a hurry.”
He moved toward Ju Buyi. “You should know what happens to a useless Scabbard.”
Of course. Ju Buyi’s lips twitched, but his eyes remained firm. He’d made his choice and didn’t regret it. Whether he died alone or here made little difference.
Ju Buyi looked up at the Elder. “I’m not a Scabbard!”
“Then do it yourself.” It was a powerful person’s privilege to determine another’s fate.
Ju Buyi drew his sword. “These things don’t belong to me. I’ll return them to you now!” He turned the blade toward himself, truly like a scabbard preparing to sheathe the sword in his flesh.
“Wait!” Bai Lian called out.
Ju Buyi and the Elder froze.
“Have you made your decision?”
Bai Lian smiled. “It’s not good to ignore what others have to say, is it?”
Decision? She could never hand over her Martial Sister. Only over her dead body would she let others bully her sisters! Yet she couldn’t defeat this arrogant Elder.
No way out.
Bai Lian could only try another approach.
Seek your Elder’s help?
Sir, times have changed!
