Chapter 13: She’s Bai Lian! (2)
It was gentle moonlight.
Infinite spiritual power poured in from all directions, water waves replacing the heavy rain. He seemed to fall into a boundless sea.
In the deep sea, he saw Bai Lian transformed by light.
Like a butterfly breaking from its cocoon, her camouflage faded away. She donned gorgeous clothes and spoke in a cold voice: “Today, I too am my younger Martial Sister’s sword!”
“I knew it, I knew it!”
Ju Buyi’s sword trembled.
He had long felt that the woman’s face shouldn’t be so ordinary, that she should be more gorgeous than the eldest princess. He had long felt that Zhao Shuo should stay away from this trouble.
His intuition hadn’t been wrong.
For the woman before him was Bai Lian, the Natural Saint of the Duxin sect!
She held her sword like a fairy under the moon.
Ju Buyi couldn’t speak. The rumors were true – Bai Lian had indeed broken through to the Soul Changing Stage!
A person’s name is like a tree’s shadow. He couldn’t be Bai Lian’s opponent.
What should he do?
“It’s Bai Lian!”
Someone shouted, and everyone, including Taoist Lingye, was dumbfounded.
“Bai…”
Fake?!
Taoist Lingye rubbed his eyes hard, remembering clearly when Bai Lian had come to ask him for fairness. Yes, only she, praised as a Natural Saint, would abide by such ethics!
“Holy shit!” Gu Quan, shrinking at the crowd’s edge, shook his head. He hadn’t hallucinated – it really was Elder Martial Sister Bai Lian of the Duxian sect.
Gods, he’d spoken with Elder Martial Sister Bai Lian at such close distance! Gu Quan trembled with excitement. He was her admirer, after all.
Most people’s reactions weren’t much different from his. But Zhao Shuo was the most shocked.
Don’t deserve it? Ask anyone – they’d all feel unworthy to fight Bai Lian.
At merely the Golden Core Stage, how dare he challenge a Natural Saint at the Soul Changing Stage?
Her casual glance could inflict heavy soul damage!
Panic seized Zhao Shuo.
He quickly glanced at Xiao Jinse. Bai Lian’s second younger Martial Sister came from the Xiao family of Castle Peak city – he’d heard about this.
Now he finally understood the source of Bai Lian’s dissatisfaction.
No solution!
If he’d accepted Bai Lian’s earlier proposal, he might have suffered less. Now, if Ju Buyi and the others couldn’t stop her, he’d have no escape.
“Come on, what are you two still doing? Hurry up!” Zhao Shuo urged.
Ju Buyi sighed.
He looked at Bai Lian as though facing a giant.
But he had to fight. Abandoning the Sword Bearer was a serious crime.
While Ju Buyi hesitated, Bai Lian saw new task options:
[Task 1: “Come on, all of you!” Let’s have a good fight. (Reward: Dark Ice Book)]
[Task 2: “Let me see your strength!” Fight with them. (Reward: No Leakage Golden Core)]
[Task 3: Say to Ju Buyi, “Did you ever hold your sword for yourself?” (Reward: a medium-grade Magic Tool – Condensed Green Sword)]
Bai Lian quickly assessed the tasks.
No way. She needed neither the Dark Ice Book nor the No Leakage Golden Core. Even Task 3’s medium-grade magic tool held no appeal.
Choose the simple one.
Bai Lian stared at Ju Buyi. “Did you ever hold your sword…”
The question stopped Ju Buyi mid-draw.
He was a Scabbard. Did such consideration hold meaning?
No matter who wielded it, death awaited him.
But…
Ju Buyi felt lost.
He might die after this battle.
As Bai Lian said, he hadn’t drawn his sword for himself even once before death.
Such was a Scabbard’s sorrow. Ju Buyi hated being sentimental.
“Ju Buyi!”
Bing Yi’s attack on Bai Lian was cut short by boundless sword Qi.
Seeing Ju Buyi frozen in place, Bai Lian seized the opportunity.
She easily tore through Bing Yi’s soul attack.
With two layers of protection – the Li Moon Taoist Robe and body protection beads – she felt no fear.
Bai Lian didn’t dodge. She drove the Tianshu Sword Array, unleashing dazzling white sword Qi that could destroy hundreds of miles.
This was the “Momentum” of the Nascent Soul Stage.
But it was also the “Sneak Attack” of a Saint!
White thunder descended on Bing Yi’s head.
Though at Soul Changing Stage, he hadn’t fully survived the Hell Fire Disaster, leaving him barely stronger than a peak Nascent Soul cultivator.
The real threat was Ju Buyi.
Even with numerous props, she could hardly defeat him.
“This is my sword!”
Bing Yi’s attacks crumbled like foam before Bai Lian’s concentrated strike.
She used all her strength.
A “shuffle” sound, then-
BOOM!
None saw clearly what happened at the collision’s center. Stirring spirit Qi swept through the air, severing Hening city’s walls and wiping distant mountains from existence.
When the dust settled, Bing Yi had vanished.
Dead, just like that?
A Soul Changing Stage cultivator, killed so easily by Bai Lian?
Taoist Lingye felt cold. He’d been one step from death’s door.
Bai Lian withdrew her sword and turned. “Don’t worry, I didn’t kill him. He just flew far away.”
That strike wasn’t enough to kill Bing Yi.
Zhao Shuo found no comfort in her words.
“Ju Buyi, what are you doing?” he screamed.
Ju Buyi ignored him.
He looked up at Bai Lian. “For whom do you hold your sword?”
“I hold it for me!” Bai Lian declared.
Ju Buyi felt confused.
Then how could she claim to be her Younger Martial Sister’s sword?
“I want to protect my younger Martial Sister. This is my own intention, not something imposed by others,” Bai Lian explained.
The will of others versus one’s own will.
Ju Buyi pondered these words repeatedly.
Yes. He’d thought this long ago, and Bai Lian’s words affirmed his feelings.
Today, he would be himself!
Ju Buyi laughed suddenly. “I’m not your opponent. Even fighting hard, I can’t beat you.”
“How did you reach this conclusion?”
“I’m not a Scabbard anymore!” Ju Buyi proclaimed.
Bai Lian and Zhao Shuo: “?”
“My cultivation base was imposed by others, but my sword skill – that I practiced myself.” Ju Buyi stated, “Fairy Bai Lian, this is my sword skill!”
He charged without spiritual power.
He believed Bai Lian would match his approach – she was a Natural Saint, after all.
Bai Lian was stunned.
Who gives up spiritual power to fight with just their body?
Your moral blackmail succeeded!
Bai Lian grabbed the Dirt Free Sword and struck directly.
Though Ju Buyi’s sword showed dozens of variations, he couldn’t match Bai Lian’s speed.
QIANG!
Ju Buyi stood motionless.
The Dirt Free Sword hovered half an inch from his neck.
“You lost.”
Ju Buyi smiled bitterly and shook his head. “I really did!”
The Great Tao is actually simple! Speed is enough!
He stepped aside.
Finally, only a pale-faced Zhao Shuo remained before Bai Lian.
“I…”
“The Sword Washing Pavilion?”
Bai Lian repeated her question, and Zhao Shuo found himself speechless.
