Chapter 10: Stop Where It Should Stop (1)
The sword came from the west.
Taoist Lingye couldn’t predict its trajectory. He had no idea what shocking scene the sword would bring. All he remembered was that the sword was fast.
It was so fast that all he could do was thrust his right hand forward, hoping to block it against the sharp blade.
But the sword was fast, after all!
He didn’t have time to use any of his martial arts. His palm hit empty air, and the wall behind Bai Lian exploded into splinters with a sharp crack. Even the sky seemed to burn with fire.
Later, Taoist Lingye attempted to push Bai Lian away with a powerful punch.
But the sword was too fast!
By the time he finished his starting move, the tip of the Dirt Free Sword was already resting against his forehead.
—
Whoosh.
Taoist Lingye froze in place.
The water spirit Qi in the air churned, making him feel as though he had been cast into a boundless ocean. Movement became nearly impossible, and even breathing grew laborious.
If he had moved even a tenth of an inch closer, his head would have been pierced, and his soul would have suffered irreparable damage.
—
Bai Lian stood frozen as well.
“Wait. Why didn’t he dodge?”
Wasn’t this man supposed to be at the peak of the Nascent Soul Stage? Could it be the system had overestimated his strength?
She hesitated, deciding not to press her attack. Her goal was fairness, not bloodshed. Killing Taoist Lingye wasn’t part of her plan.
Damn it!
—
Taoist Lingye took a deep breath, his heart pounding.
“No wonder this strange girl is so aggressive. She’s truly strong!”
However, he realized the commotion from earlier must have caught the attention of the Chuncao Pavilion. He just needed to stall for time.
With a serious expression, he addressed Bai Lian.
“Young one, sneak attacks are unbecoming of someone with your skills. You’re too impetuous. If it weren’t for me…”
He shook his head solemnly.
—
Pop.
He waved his fist in the air, producing a crisp explosion. A faint image of a “dragon” rose into the night sky.
“If I hadn’t intentionally deflected my palm half an inch to the side, your body would have been crushed. Leave now, and I’ll let this go. Otherwise, you’ll regret it!”
Taoist Lingye sighed, his face full of disappointment.
“You young people nowadays have no respect for your elders!”
—
Bai Lian remained unmoved.
“Respect the elderly? Why don’t you love the young?”
This man was hundreds of years old and still played tricks on the younger generation?
“As long as I abandon morality, no one can morally blackmail me!”
—
Taoist Lingye’s eyes widened as Bai Lian made no move to withdraw her sword.
“It’s not always good for young people to be so vigorous,” he said, raising his right hand.
He gripped the blade between his index and middle fingers, trying to move it away.
—
Move!
(—`´—)
Move!
(`Ω´)v
Move!!!
(〃>皿<)
—
His efforts were in vain, and Taoist Lingye’s face turned crimson with exertion.
—
Bai Lian broke the silence.
“Taoist Lingye, this sword is a best-grade Magic Tool. It’s not that I doubt your strength, but you’d best abandon the idea of breaking it.”
—
Taoist Lingye froze, feeling a sharp pang of humiliation.
Break it?
No, that wasn’t his intent. He simply wanted to move the blade aside because being under its point made him uneasy. But now Bai Lian thought he was trying to break the sword, which implied she didn’t even consider him a threat.
Impossible!
—
Taoist Lingye’s expression darkened.
“So, this young one is even better at ‘pretending to be cool’ than I am?”
He sighed deeply, masking his frustration with false composure.
“Young one, you’re quite remarkable. Tell me—who is your master?”
—
Master?
“I won’t tell you,” Bai Lian replied calmly.
“My strength is far inferior to my master’s.”
“You must belong to a prestigious sect,” Taoist Lingye continued, probing.
“And if I do?”
“If you don’t, then your sect will rise to prominence under your leadership.”
—
Taoist Lingye smiled slyly, noticing a flicker of distraction in Bai Lian’s expression. His eyes flashed with determination.
Surprise attack!
He gripped the blade with his fingers, pressing it to the left as he roared inwardly, “Move, you damn sword!”
—
Bai Lian watched, unimpressed.
So, he’s trying to delay.
Her Divine Sense scanned the surroundings. The explosion had indeed attracted attention, and people from the Chuncao Pavilion were likely on their way. While she didn’t fear them, she preferred to avoid unnecessary exposure.
Time to teach him a lesson.
—
Bai Lian withdrew the Dirt Free Sword, leaving Taoist Lingye stunned. Before he could react, she brandished the blade once more.
—
A storm erupted.
Ice butterflies filled the air, their delicate wings freezing everything they touched. In an instant, the room transformed into a glacial wonderland.
—
Taoist Lingye found himself trapped in a frozen wasteland. The biting cold pierced his skin, and the swirling snow blinded his vision.
Fear crept into his heart.
“This girl… she’s even stronger than I thought!”
—
Boom!
An explosion shook the room as the snowstorm engulfed Taoist Lingye.
Through the chaos, the only thing he could see was Bai Lian’s sword—a white blade gleaming with frost and snow, cutting an unstoppable path toward him.
It advanced with unwavering courage.
