Chapter 6: If Only She Were My Sister
Su Youwei got up early in the morning.
Because she wanted to protect the best Elder Martial Sister Bai in the world, she couldn’t wait and wanted to cultivate as soon as possible.
If Martial Sister Bai Lian hadn’t repeatedly told her that cultivation couldn’t be rushed, she would have stayed up all night.
Not long after coming out of her room, she heard a thump.
The sound was rhythmic.
“?”
With doubts, Su Youwei followed the sound.
Then…
In the same place as last night, she saw a woman in a blue maid dress waving an axe, cutting firewood.
It was Qing Luan.
Damn it!
A beautiful day ends with seeing Qing Luan!
Why is Qing Luan here?
Su Youwei wiped her eyes hard. She thought she might be hallucinating, but she wasn’t.
After splitting a piece of wood again, Qing Luan stopped what she was doing.
She looked up and saw her guiding light, Younger Martial Sister Su Youwei!
Great.
Her face immediately burst into a bright smile. She threw the axe aside and took two steps forward to hold Su Youwei’s hand to express her thanks.
But after noticing the sweat and sawdust on her palm, Qing Luan quickly withdrew her hand.
No, I can’t dirty my benefactor’s hands!
She said excitedly, “Younger Martial Sister Su, if not for your questioning, I wouldn’t have realized.”
“Huh?”
Su Youwei asked in a trembling voice, “What did you realize?”
Qing Luan looked up at the sky. The sky was so clear.
“Younger Martial Sister Su, I thought for a whole night, and I still didn’t have a clear answer to those questions you asked. But this night’s meditation made me understand that the reason I came to learn from Martial Sister Bai Lian was to solve these problems, and that I almost made a mistake about the karma relationship.”
“……”
Qing Luan sighed. “I was thinking about whether I should give up. It was your words that firmed my resolve to stay. I want to try. It’s been a long time since the last time I experienced life as an ordinary person. I don’t know if I can do well. Martial Sister Su, please help me.”
She smiled shyly as she spoke.
Hey, hey.
Sorry.
Hey, hey? What are you laughing about?!
Su Youwei was stunned. Did her words make Qing Luan stay?
She saw the axe lying on the ground…
It’s hopeless.
A beautiful month ends with hearing Qing Luan’s explanation!
Qing Luan, who didn’t know what Su Youwei was thinking, repeatedly thanked her.
“Is the axe held like this?”
“How many pieces of firewood do you want to cut?”
“Wouldn’t it be bad to pile it directly by the roadside?”
Su Youwei felt she was almost exhausted.
Until Qing Luan asked where she was going to water the flowers, Su Youwei quickly stretched out her finger and pointed to the medicine garden.
“You can go water them by yourself. I have something to do first.”
Su Youwei wanted to find a place to calm down. She thought of a warm and good place!
…
Outside the Medicine Garden
When Bai Lian arrived at the scene, the atmosphere was tense.
It was obvious that the jade rabbit had the upper hand.
After all, it was fighting in its own territory, so it simply ignored Qing Luan. It could defeat ten such enemies with ease!
The jade rabbit hopped over at the sight of Bai Lian.
“Haw!”
The jade rabbit angrily pointed to Qing Luan with its left ear and wrote the word “Steal” on the ground with its right ear.
Qing Luan quickly waved her hands. “Martial Sister Bai Lian, I didn’t steal anything!”
She was wronged.
She had just come in to water a flower—how did she become a thief?
Bai Lian frowned. Of course, Qing Luan couldn’t be a thief, but perhaps she could take this opportunity to drive Qing Luan away from the Qiongming Peak and cut off her bad intentions.
At this moment, the task system appeared.
Task 1: Let her take the opportunity to drive Qing Luan away.
Task 2: Resolve the misunderstanding.
Seeing that Task 1’s reward was medical pills, Bai Lian immediately gave up on that plan. The medical pills An Lan had given her were sufficient for the time being, and earning more skill points was far more cost-effective.
Choose Task 2.
“This is a misunderstanding…”
Bai Lian held the jade rabbit in her arms and gently stroked its fur to calm it down.
Then, she explained to Qing Luan that the medicine garden was managed by the jade rabbit and that even she, Bai Lian, would not interfere under normal circumstances.
In the end, the misunderstanding between Qing Luan and the jade rabbit was resolved.
[Task completed. Light Skill +2]
“Elder Martial Sister Bai Lian.”
Qing Luan followed Bai Lian with an ashamed look on her face.
Bai Lian said, “Since you want to stay on Qiongming Peak to study, I’ll show you the environment of the Qiongming Peak first, so as to avoid unnecessary misunderstandings in the future.”
“Yes!”
Qing Luan answered hurriedly.
She had made a big mistake on the first day. Fortunately, Martial Sister Bai Lian hadn’t blamed her but had kindly comforted her instead.
Elder Martial Sister Bai Lian was truly a gentle person!
After taking two steps, Qing Luan asked again, “Martial Sister Bai Lian, won’t this delay your business?”
“It doesn’t matter,” Bai Lian replied, shaking her head.
It made no difference whether she wandered alone or walked around with Qing Luan. Anyway, the tasks would be issued as usual.
Elder Martial Sister Bai Lian was an informal person.
Whether it was the “front door” or the “back door,” a “door” that could be accessed was a good door. Sometimes, even the “back door” could bring extraordinary experiences.
Keeping Qing Luan by her side could also prevent her from disturbing others.
And, over time, seeing that her presence was unwelcome, Qing Luan might leave on her own.
This plan was wonderful!
Bai Lian smiled the entire time. She led Qing Luan around the Qiongming Peak all day and didn’t stop until evening.
On the Hillside
Bai Lian sat on the ground. “Are you tired?”
Qing Luan shook her head. “I am not.”
Looking at Martial Sister Bai Lian’s “kind” smile, how could she be tired?
It had been a whole day. Elder Martial Sister Bai Lian hadn’t done anything else—she had walked around with her the entire time!
Even her master wouldn’t have done so much for her, would he?
It wasn’t that her master ignored her; it was just that he was very busy. As the Martial Sister of Qiongming Peak, Bai Lian must be very busy too. This was evident from the fact that the medicine garden was handed over to her pet to manage.
Qing Luan was moved.
Her heart surged, like a water tank stirred by a stick, and it was difficult for her to calm down.
She didn’t know how to express her gratitude to Martial Sister Bai Lian.
Elder Martial Sister Bai Lian was so kind to her. She would keep studying and never give up halfway!
“Sit down and have a rest.”
Bai Lian patted the open space beside her as she prepared her next words.
“Alright.”
Qing Luan quickly sat down.
After a while, Bai Lian said, “To be an ordinary person, what matters is not what you do, but your attitude!”
“?”
“Anyone can do things like watering flowers, chopping firewood, and walking around. Ordinary people can do it, and so can cultivators.”
Qing Luan became thoughtful.
Was Elder Martial Sister Bai Lian saying she was merely acting and not truly engaging in these activities?
“But the mentality is different. Many times, even if you realize there’s a problem with your mindset, it’s difficult to change. I think you can try taking a shortcut.”
“Shortcut?” Qing Luan asked, puzzled.
Bai Lian explained, “Yes. What was your state of mind before you formally embarked on the road of cultivation? Reflect on that. Although it has faded now, it is still something you once possessed. It’s always easier to reclaim what you’ve lost than to find something entirely new.”
Qing Luan nodded.
She had once lived an ordinary life, albeit more affluent than most civilians.
What was her state of mind back then?
Qing Luan tried to recall her childhood. Though the memories were vague, she remembered being happy.
But everything changed when her sister returned from the Duxian Sect.
Hong Luan told her she had extraordinary qualifications and the potential to ascend to the Immortal World. She was then taken to the Duxian Sect.
Her parents, uncles, sisters, and even her master—everyone was happy except for her.
Because she was just a “child.”
From the beginning, she cultivated for the sake of “cultivating.”
In the bitter cold of winter, when she absorbed spirit Qi, she wanted to give up. It was so tiring and cold.
When the medicinal pills tore through her meridians, she wanted to give up. It was so painful and uncomfortable.
Her sister told her that if she persevered, she would become her most powerful assistant in the future.
Qing Luan didn’t think this was something worth looking forward to.
She could have been a happy, carefree rich lady.
But her sister’s will was imposed on her. Since then, cultivation had become a burden rather than a joy.
Qing Luan smiled wryly.
Had it not been for Martial Sister Bai Lian’s guidance, she might never have examined her heart so thoroughly.
It turned out she wanted to surpass her sister—not to overshadow her, but to vent her frustrations.
Why should she live under someone else’s will?
Qing Luan glanced at Bai Lian, who was looking up at the sky.
The sky…
She looked up.
The bright moonlight seemed to reflect her sister’s face, but soon that face was replaced by Martial Sister Bai Lian’s gentle features.
For a moment, Qing Luan thought, If only Martial Sister Bai Lian were my real sister.
That way, she wouldn’t have to step into the cultivation world.
She would still be her, but she would be a firework of different colors.
In meditation, Qing Luan’s heart shook, and a prominent crack appeared, as if it could be easily pierced.
……
Until dusk.
Bai Lian returned the sleepy Qing Luan to her temporary residence before returning to her own room.
She was not going to sleep tonight. She wanted to seize the time to refine the magic bead that An Lan gave her.
She climbed into bed and unconsciously saw the pictures hanging on the wall.
How harmonious it is.
There will be more pictures on the wall in the future. At least two more Martial Sisters will be added.
Bai Lian smiled.
She was about to take out the bead, when she suddenly felt something abnormal.
“Huh?”
Bai Lian jumped out of bed and walked quickly to the wall.
Right. It’s the location!
If she remembered correctly, her painting should have been between the master and the second Martial Sister, but now how did it become sandwiched between the third Martial Sister and the master?
