Chapter 24: The Glory of Our Ancestors Is Guarded by Us! (1)
“It’s a miracle!”
The sharp, almost desperate hiss echoed through Flying Fog.
Even without the rabbit demon shouting, all the others had already realized: Yaoguang Star Lord had just revealed her divine presence.
The Scroll of the Moon and Stars was irrefutable proof.
In spring, the river swells as if it could reach the sea, and with it, the moon rises in all its glory!
It could not be mistaken.
Only those who had mastered the Great Tao could have created such an enchanting moonlit image.
And within the past 5000 years, Yaoguang Star Lord was the only one capable of this feat.
Qiong Zhi turned her gaze backward.
The sight before her made her falter.
The jade rabbit’s eyes were misted over.
This was the glory of our ancestors!
During Yaoguang Star Lord’s reign, Flying Fog was a peerless force, a transcendent entity on the boundless sea. No power dared challenge it.
Qiong Zhi longed to lose herself in the moment, to forget all else, but there were more pressing matters at hand.
The laurel tree that had stood for 5000 years had changed.
From a distance, she could see a faint halo surrounding it.
Qiong Zhi rushed toward it.
“King.”
The rabbit demon guarding the tree looked at Qiong Zhi in fear.
Qiong Zhi said nothing.
As the wind blew, the laurel tree suddenly bloomed with star-like flowers.
The silver glow flickered like fireflies ascending and descending in the breeze.
Her gaze lowered, and she saw that the Scroll of the Moon and Stars, etched into the stone wall, was now alive.
It seemed to ripple with a luminous wave of energy.
A miracle!
Qiong Zhi’s breath quickened.
Could it be that Yaoguang Star Lord had truly returned?
If so, she would immediately gather all the Elders of Flying Fog!
As she was preparing to act, a dark shadow suddenly appeared at the end of the floating Scroll of the Moon and Stars.
Qiong Zhi’s eyes widened in shock.
“Que Yue?”
It was the rabbit blown away by Bai Lian.
Its forehead was swollen, but its face wore a grin brighter than the sun.
“Hee hee… Ha ha…
“Yes! I saw the Star Lord! Yes!”
“……”
Qiong Zhi stood frozen.
Had she lost her mind?
Que Yue, what on earth is wrong with you? Que Yue!
Que Yue ignored her, laughing as it flew down from above.
Boom!
Anger surged in Qiong Zhi’s chest.
She flew up and grabbed Que Yue by the tail.
She kicked the much larger rabbit with her tiny front leg.
“Are you still shouting?”
Que Yue, dizzy from the blows, remained still for a long moment. It didn’t speak, but its glowing eyes slowly returned to normal.
After a while, Que Yue covered its swollen forehead and shouted, “Mom!”
Qiong Zhi demanded, “What happened? Who did this to you?”
Que Yue extended its claws toward the sky. “It was Yaoguang Star Lord. Yaoguang Star Lord’s fist!”
Qiong Zhi raised her claws and slapped Que Yue’s head sharply.
“I swear, I’m not lying!” Que Yue cried out.
It explained what had happened.
Initially, Qiong Zhi had been furious at its recklessness. However, as Que Yue recounted the world it had seen through Bai Lian’s fist, Qiong Zhi’s body began to tremble with shock.
“How… How could this be?”
“I’m not lying!” Que Yue repeated, its tone serious.
Had it not been for the sudden blow, Que Yue felt that it might have begun to grasp the Great Tao.
“Come, follow me.”
Qiong Zhi led Que Yue to the palace.
She had a sinking suspicion and needed to discuss it with the other demonic beasts immediately.
—
The jade rabbit had been lying by the window for a long time.
When the moon and stars faded from the sky, it jumped down and planned to practice “Rabbit Boxing” to calm the turmoil in its heart.
Just as it was about to begin, a sudden knock at the door caught its attention.
“Huh?”
Qiong Zhi appeared at the door, looking urgent.
The jade rabbit was confused.
Shouldn’t Qiong Zhi be busy with official matters?
Opening the door, it was barely able to speak before Qiong Zhi blurted out, “Yao Ye, things have changed!”
“Huh?”
Qiong Zhi continued, “Your wedding with Bai Lian might not happen after all!”
The jade rabbit froze in shock.
In truth, it hadn’t been eager for the marriage to Bai Lian from the start; it had always felt impossible.
Though Bai Lian had claimed to like women, it was clear that her two younger martial sisters had a much closer bond with her. As for the jade rabbit, it was nothing but a helpless runaway.
Moreover, the jade rabbit wasn’t even sure if it had romantic feelings for Bai Lian.
It shyly expressed its thoughts to Qiong Zhi.
After a deep, honest conversation, Qiong Zhi reassured her to stay calm.
“You just need to be prepared, and I’ll figure something out!”
Merry!
Now that it had gathered its thoughts and accepted the idea of marrying Bai Lian, Qiong Zhi’s sudden news struck like a blow.
What did this mean?
Qiong Zhi saw the disappointment on the jade rabbit’s face and explained, “It’s not that I want to stop you, nor is it the Elders causing trouble. But the real issue is, alas…”
She shook her head in frustration.
This is beyond reason!
“Did you see the moon and stars earlier?” Qiong Zhi asked.
In the past tense…
“That was Bai Lian’s doing.”
The jade rabbit’s heart raced. Had Bai Lian caused this chaos?
No, it must help Bai Lian!
Qiong Zhi reassured her, “She’s fine… Well, not fine. She performed the same feats as Yaoguang Star Lord. Because of her, the laurel tree, unchanged for five thousand years, has now shown signs of miraculous power.”
The jade rabbit’s eyes widened in disbelief.
So what did this mean?
Qiong Zhi spoke gravely, “This indicates that Bai Lian is likely the reincarnation of Yaoguang Star Lord!”
Before ascending to the Immortal World, Yaoguang Star Lord had promised to return. But this situation was still beyond anything they could have imagined.
The jade rabbit felt as if it had been struck by lightning.
Its vision blurred, and its legs gave way beneath it.
Yaoguang Star Lord is the ancestor of the Yaoguang Rabbit Race!
If Bai Lian is indeed her reincarnation, doesn’t that mean the jade rabbit is marrying its own ancestor?
It was unthinkable!
How could it face this truth?
Is Bai Lian truly the reincarnation of Yaoguang Star Lord?
It looked pleadingly at Qiong Zhi.
Qiong Zhi turned her gaze away, understanding the jade rabbit’s shock. After all, this was more terrifying than realizing that your girlfriend was secretly your sister!
“If she isn’t, then how could she awaken the laurel tree planted by Yaoguang Star Lord?”
The jade rabbit took two steps back, its mind spinning. Suddenly, it rushed out of the house.
“Yao Ye!”
Qiong Zhi called after it, but it was futile.
She knew the jade rabbit was rushing to find Bai Lian. Coincidentally, Qiong Zhi had the same intent.
It couldn’t be avoided. They would have to face the truth sooner or later.
