Chapter 18: Give Me One Too! (1)
At night.
The night was thick.
Behind the Yunluo Peak, at the sect leaders’ cemetery, Jue Yunzi came in carrying two jugs of wine. He stopped in front of the gravestone of the former sect leader and seated himself on the ground.
“Speaking of…”
Jue Yunzi looked up at the starry sky, the vastness reminding him of Bai Lian’s mind.
Alas.
Nearly two hundred years had passed since his master’s death. Since becoming the sect leader of the Duxian sect, he felt as though he were walking on ice every day. But this year, he had finally seen a glimmer of hope!
A smile of genuine happiness spread across his face.
“Master, when you brought Sister An Lan back from the outside, you said she had the potential to become an immortal and would certainly lead the Duxian sect to prosperity.”
He placed a pot of wine in front of the tombstone, remembering the excited look in his master’s eyes when he pointed to Xiao An Lan and spoke those words, like a child getting his favorite candy.
He sighed in regret, “More than 400 years have passed, and I always thought you were wrong. Although Sister An Lan has exceptional talent, her strange personality has kept her stuck at the Transcendency Stage for over 200 years without any progress.”
Jue Yunzi opened another jug of wine and took a sip before continuing, “I never expected to see a turn of events in the past two years. Shifu, three and a half years ago, younger Martial Sister An Lan accepted a disciple named Bai Lian. What a strange name, right? I thought so too. But Shifu, you can’t imagine—she is a Natural Saint!”
He paused, wiping his eyes with his long sleeve.
Tears of excitement.
Jue Yunzi’s voice trembled as he spoke, “At first, I thought it was all just rumors. A Natural Saint! How could such a person appear in the Duxian sect? But it’s true. She carries the Tao halo, and she is so intelligent—she sees through everything… If Bai Lian isn’t a Natural Saint, then who is?”
“Although younger Martial Sister An Lan often causes trouble, she has finally brought hope to the Duxian sect. As long as nothing goes wrong, with Bai Lian, the Duxian sect will have the power to compete with the four major sects in 50 years or, at most, 100 years.”
“When Bai Lian becomes strong enough, even if she gives younger Martial Sister An Lan the title of Immortal Emperor, no one will oppose it.”
Suddenly, Jue Yunzi sat up straighter, his eyes now fixed on the seemingly ordinary tombstone. His gaze was serious, intense. At that moment, he seemed to merge with the world around him.
“Shifu, was this in your calculations?”
Of course, the tombstone didn’t answer.
After a while, Jue Yunzi gave a wry smile and lay back on the grass. The breeze blew gently, but it was a cold winter night after all.
Elsewhere in the cemetery, Yan Yue, who had been hiding, curled her lips.
Why not continue speaking disparaging words about An Lan? She wanted to hear more.
Yan Yue stepped out. “Elder Martial Brother.”
“Oh, Yan Yue. Are you here to see Shifu as well?”
Yan Yue knew that “Shifu” referred to her father. “I just came to have a look. Elder Martial Brother, you seem to be in a good mood.”
“Yes.”
“What do you think of Bai Lian?”
“She still needs to grow.”
“I think Bai Lian should be given more responsibilities.”
“What responsibilities?”
Yan Yue smiled. “Let Bai Lian be the master of the Qiongming Peak!”
“?”
“If only we could change the name of Qiongming Peak, it would be even better.”
“?”
“All the people around Bai Lian have a bright future. Let’s call it Bright Peak!”
Cough.
Jue Yunzi coughed violently.
I’m afraid you’re only adding a burden to yourself!
If younger Martial Sister An Lan knows about this, she’ll definitely hang you up and beat you.
Jue Yunzi said, “Yan Yue, I don’t think you and younger Martial Sister An Lan have a deep hatred. Why make things more complicated? It’s been several…”
“Elder Martial Brother, this is a private matter between An Lan and me.” Yan Yue’s expression became serious.
Yes, yes, yes.
Jue Yunzi had tried many times to persuade them, but it was futile.
Yan Yue’s tone softened, “Where has An Lan gone recently?”
You must care about her a lot.
Jue Yunzi said, “Someone saw a figure near the Wushan Holy Palace who was suspected to be Martial Sister An Lan.”
“What was she doing there?”
Jue Yunzi shrugged his shoulders, “Who knows?”
Yan Yue quickly changed the subject, “Elder Martial Brother, I think your mind just wandered away for a moment. Are you about to break through?”
Jue Yunzi nodded, “The Guafeng Tribulation. I will face it within two years.”
Yan Yue grew nervous, “Then…”
“I’m not sure. If I fail, the Duxian sect will depend on you…”
“Elder Martial Brother.”
Jue Yunzi smiled, “I don’t worry. I think the Duxian sect is like this starry sky. The crescent moon is Bai Lian now, but one day she will become the sun!”
Yan Yue looked up at the sky.
She remembered the words she had heard from Tong Yao:
If Bai Lian were never born, the Duxian sect would remain in eternal darkness.
Tong Yao has good insight. Her master must be proud to have such a disciple.
—
It was the same night.
In Bai Lian’s room, the candle flickered softly.
Xiao Jinse nervously raised the ruler in her hand.
Less than half a meter away, Martial Sister Bai Lian stood, dressed in thin clothes, her arms spread open, ready to let Xiao Jinse measure her.
Calm down.
Calm down!
Xiao Jinse took several deep breaths, trying to slow her pounding heart.
She hadn’t even started yet, so she couldn’t lose control now.
A quarter of an hour earlier, she had offered to help Martial Sister Bai Lian make a dress, and to her surprise, Bai Lian had agreed immediately.
“The clothes must fit well. Can I measure them for you, Martial Sister?”
“No problem.”
