Chapter 15: I Would Rather Burn Everything in the Fire! (1)
“Wheeze, wheeze—”
After hearing that Bai Lian had been taken away by Hong Luan, Su Youwei burst into action with an unprecedented urgency. Panic coursed through her.
She had always known someone wanted to harm Martial Sister Bai Lian, and she’d dreamt of becoming strong enough to protect her.
“Elder Martial Sister, lie down, let me handle it!”
But she never imagined they would strike so quickly.
In broad daylight, they kidnapped Martial Sister Bai Lian!
She must rescue her.
If not…
Su Youwei couldn’t help but think of the Ten Thousand Poison Pearl embedded within her body. Don’t underestimate me.
Once repaired, the power of that poison was nothing to joke about!
In her desperation, Su Youwei rushed up to the top of Yunluo Peak.
She heard the murmurs and exclamations around her, but she ignored them, her eyes scanning desperately until they landed on Bai Lian, standing like a tall pine tree before the main hall.
“Elder Martial Sister!”
Su Youwei ran toward her.
Thud.
She collided headfirst into Bai Lian’s soft, welcoming arms, her face flushing with the sudden contact. It was almost too much. She couldn’t pull away from the embrace.
After what seemed like an eternity, Su Youwei finally tilted her head back, her cheeks crimson, “Elder Martial Sister…”
“Who bullied you?” Bai Lian asked, genuinely surprised.
“No one bullied me,” Su Youwei quickly reassured, shaking her head. “But… I thought you were in danger.”
As she calmed down, she began to hear the murmurs around her.
Oh no, I misunderstood…
But wait, something else was wrong!
Xiao Jinse fumed. She had been the first to enter Duxian Sect, the first to witness Bai Lian’s every step. But why was it the third Martial Sister who was holding Bai Lian like this, right in front of everyone?
Sure, she’d embraced Bai Lian too, but… well, that had been on Bai Lian’s initiative…
Hmph.
“After all, I, Xiao Jinse, have the upper hand!” Xiao Jinse raised her chin proudly and patted Su Youwei’s shoulder.
Su Youwei turned with a scowl, “Don’t disturb Martial Sister. Elder Martial Sister has important matters to attend to!”
“…”
Xiao Jinse was momentarily stunned. She knew Su Youwei had a point. As the younger Martial Sister, she was not supposed to interfere with Bai Lian’s time.
But her mind couldn’t help but think, Jealousy. She’s so jealous of me.
Oh, women!
Just let her be, Su Youwei thought, a little triumphant.
After all, it’s me, Su Youwei, who has the upper hand!
The two locked eyes, both secretly satisfied in their own way.
Meanwhile, Bai Lian, recalling what Tong Yao had said earlier about the second Martial Sister while Hong Luan was kneeling before her, felt a bit of a smile tug at her lips.
“Elder Martial Sister Bai Lian must have expected…”
“You can always come up with new tricks for me!”
Bai Lian gave a long, dramatic sigh, purposefully looking away toward the clouds.
“As you can see, the entire path of cultivation is fraught with danger. We face not only other people but the heavens themselves. Uncertainty lies ahead, and we cannot predict when disaster will strike. I can’t always protect you… You must learn to take care of yourselves. Be calm in the face of adversity… You are my wings… and also Master’s.”
Integrity can be shattered, but the heart of the Dao must remain unbroken.
I’m so afraid!
“Elder Martial Sister!”
Both Xiao Jinse and Su Youwei were moved.
They longed to get closer to her, but… with others watching, they hesitated.
“What about me?”
Tong Yao, standing by like an outsider, tried to interject.
As a die-hard fan, she could say with confidence, no one knew Bai Lian better than she did.
Even if she couldn’t be her wings, surely she could serve as the perfect clothes, close enough to experience everything of Bai Lian?
“!”
Xiao Jinse and Su Youwei immediately stiffened, their attention sharpening.
Want to come in?
“Shut the door.”
They quickly squeezed into the middle, blocking Tong Yao from any chance of coming closer.
“…”
Before Bai Lian could speak, a voice rang from behind.
“Bai Lian!”
She turned, her gaze meeting Yan Yue, who stood at the gate of the main hall, dressed like a goddess.
It was said that people had two sides—the front and the back. Bai Lian wholeheartedly agreed with this sentiment. She had seen both sides of Yan Yue… and the word “good” seemed almost too simple to describe it.
Bai Lian raised her hand in greeting. “Master Yan Yue.”
Yan Yue smiled warmly and said, “Come with me.”
They entered the hall side by side.
Once the view behind them disappeared completely, Yan Yue smiled and patted Bai Lian’s shoulder.
“That’s impressive! How could you have known that Hong Luan was scheming behind all of this?”
Bai Lian lowered her head, pretending to be embarrassed. “It’s not as grand as others say. At first, I just had a hunch. It wasn’t until I found the metal card in the double-headed dragon’s nest that I could finally confirm it.”
Yan Yue gazed at Bai Lian with a look of affectionate pride, as if seeing a daughter in her.
What a good child!
Modest, polite, considerate, intelligent, and charming…
But then, thoughts of An Lan crossed her mind.
Never mind. Let’s not think about her now.
Yan Yue smiled again, “You don’t need to be too modest. When it’s time to be tough, you must stand firm!”
“Yes,” Bai Lian answered, feeling the weight of Yan Yue’s praise.
As they spoke, they arrived at the back of the main hall.
The atmosphere here was completely different from the front—an acrid burning scent hung in the air, and an innocent tree had been reduced to a pile of black charcoal.
As Bai Lian, in her long white dress, appeared from the side, every gaze in the area turned toward her.
“Bai Lian!”
The first to approach was a beautiful young woman. Bai Lian recognized her immediately—this was Elder Xu from Yunluo Peak, Qing Luan’s master.
“Save Qing Luan,” Elder Xu cried, grabbing Bai Lian’s hand with a sad look. “She’s just a child! She’s only begun her journey of cultivation. So many things are waiting for her. She…”
“Martial Sister Xu!”
Yan Yue and Jue Yunzi called out in unison.
Elder Xu shuddered and quickly let go of Bai Lian’s hand, standing there lost and helpless.
Bai Lian didn’t know how to comfort her. Should she apologize? Was it her fault?
For a moment, her body felt heavy with the weight of the situation.
What a wicked woman I am!
Jue Yunzi sighed.
Was it true that Bai Lian could save Qing Luan now? Perhaps not, but he had to try—otherwise, Elder Xu’s wrath would be unstoppable.
Jue Yunzi spoke softly, “Elder Xu is simply too concerned about her disciple. I apologize for her behavior.”
Bai Lian quickly waved her hand, “Don’t worry. I can understand Elder Xu’s feelings.”
Jue Yunzi nodded and said, “Qing Luan has taken medical pills, and the pain has been suppressed. But she remains in a coma, and her situation is critical.”
“…”
“This matter should not fall upon you, but…”
Bai Lian understood.
New task options had appeared before her.
