Chapter 13: Sister, Turn Yourself In! (2)
Just brandished her sword four times?
Is she a Sword God?!
Hong Luan pressed Qing Luan’s shoulder. “You didn’t lie to me?”
Deep disappointment flashed in Qing Luan’s eyes.
Lie?
At this moment, her sister was thinking of such a thing?
If it were Martial Sister Bai Lian, she would never have thought such a thing. Bai Lian was broad-minded, never doubting others for no reason. She was gentle, kind, and never aggressive unless absolutely necessary.
“I didn’t lie to you,” Qing Luan answered.
Hong Luan sat down, feeling a heavy weight in her chest. Her breathing became shallow and erratic.
She had always doubted Bai Lian’s strength, assuming it was exaggerated. But if Qing Luan didn’t deceive her, did that mean Bai Lian’s strength truly surpassed hers?
Why?
“Sister…”
Qing Luan’s voice broke through Hong Luan’s thoughts.
Hong Luan turned her head, forcing a smile onto her face. “Stop it. If it goes on like this, you will die.”
Hong Luan’s face tightened. “What do you mean by that?”
Before Qing Luan, an ethereal light suddenly materialized, twisting and interweaving until it formed the shape of a metal card.
“Elder Martial Sister Bai Lian found it in the double-headed dragon’s nest.”
“What are you talking about?” Hong Luan’s voice quivered with confusion.
Qing Luan shook her head. “Elder sister, you don’t need to take any chances. I know this is yours. Not just me, but Martial Sister Bai Lian knows too. Besides, you should know I’m not trying to deceive you.”
Hong Luan’s teeth clenched. Panic began to rise within her.
After a long pause, she asked, “Did you tell Bai Lian?”
Qing Luan’s heart sank.
Sure enough, she shouldn’t have had any expectations for Hong Luan.
Elder Martial Sister Bai Lian had always met her expectations, but Hong Luan only brought disappointment.
With a cold tone, she asked, “If I told Martial Sister Bai Lian, what would you do?”
As her voice echoed, an oppressive force enveloped the room, suffocating Qing Luan, as though a storm was approaching.
It was unbearable.
But what hurt more was her heart.
She shouldn’t have tried—why expose everything?
Her goal had always been to surpass Hong Luan, but now she realized it was a dead end.
Elder Martial Sister Bai Lian was so powerful; she had seen through Qing Luan from the start, offering her the treatment called “Peace of Mind.”
Once, Qing Luan had longed to surpass Hong Luan, but even learning of her collusion with the double-headed dragon, she had always respected her sister. Because Hong Luan was her sister.
But today, Hong Luan had crushed the last shred of her respect.
She couldn’t go back.
She didn’t want to respect this sister anymore.
At this moment, Qing Luan spoke, her voice eerily calm. “There is a magic circle in the room. If you do anything to me, everyone in Yunluo Peak will know.”
Hong Luan’s breath hitched.
Qing Luan continued, “In fact, Martial Sister Bai Lian knew you were in contact with the double-headed dragon, but she didn’t report it to the sect.”
Hong Luan froze.
She stared at Qing Luan’s flawless face. Was this what they meant by “A stranger you are most familiar with”?
She realized, in that instant, that she didn’t truly know her sister.
“Why?”
“When I saw this metal card…” Qing Luan explained, recounting her conversation with Bai Lian and her own deductions. “Sister, turn yourself in! It’s a good thing to change after making mistakes!”
Hong Luan trembled.
She no longer doubted Qing Luan. The metal card was irrefutable.
“Bai Lian… she…”
Hong Luan smiled wryly, the weight of realization crushing her.
She slumped into her chair like a defeated person, exhausted from a sleepless night.
She had tried so many times to test Bai Lian’s strength, but each time her efforts were effortlessly dismantled.
She had thought herself clever, working in the shadows, but Bai Lian had seen through it all.
She had intended to use Qing Luan to probe Bai Lian, but Bai Lian had used Qing Luan to defeat her completely.
Now, she realized she was facing an unimaginable enemy:
The Martial Sister of this generation—the uncrowned queen of the jade and Qionghua lists, the legendary Natural Saint—
Bai Lian.
“I’m not as good as her.”
Hong Luan had to admit it.
She couldn’t compete. She was nothing compared to Bai Lian, who was far more open-hearted. How could she compete for the sect leader’s position against Bai Lian?
If asked to choose the next leader of the Duxian sect, she would choose Bai Lian. Because no one else was more fit for the role.
Under Bai Lian’s leadership, the Duxian sect had a chance to surpass the four major sects and become the new overlord of the East Divine Land.
That was the truth.
Once Qing Luan saw through her, Hong Luan finally saw the truth. She hadn’t lost in vain.
Qing Luan said softly, “You really can’t compare with Martial Sister Bai Lian.”
“Yes.”
She couldn’t even get along with her own sister.
Clang
Hong Luan stood up, trembling as she walked toward the door.
“What are you going to do?”
“To turn myself in. I’ll tell the sect leader everything I’ve done.”
Hong Luan waved her hand as she left, her back appearing solitary, lonely.
Escape from the Duxian sect immediately?
She couldn’t do that. She knew Bai Lian wouldn’t allow it.
As for pretending nothing had happened after correcting her mistakes—she couldn’t do that either.
Hong Luan pushed open the door, and the winter sun warmed her skin. She took a deep breath, trying to savor the moment.
Was it normal for Qing Luan not to ask her to stay? After all, she had caused this situation herself.
The top of Yunluo Peak wasn’t far. Even walking slowly, it would only take a quarter of an hour.
A quarter of an hour—a moment that felt both long and short.
Qing Luan didn’t watch her leave. Instead, she gazed at the ceiling, one hand pressed to her chest, feeling a faint pain.
Then, she heard the sound of footsteps crossing the threshold, and the door creaked as it closed behind her.
It was over.
It ended differently than Martial Sister Bai Lian had expected.
As Qing Luan finally relaxed, a wave of dizziness washed over her, a flood of darkness consuming her.
“I…”
Qing Luan couldn’t even finish her sentence before something inside her broke.
She collapsed to the floor, unable to stay upright.
Bang!
Her vision blurred.
Just as she was slipping into the eternal darkness, a loud noise echoed, and the door was thrown open.
“Qing Luan, Qing Luan, what’s wrong with you?”
Someone lifted her into their arms, shouting in a panic.
Hey, don’t fall asleep! I was wrong. I’m a bitch. Wake up.
But…
The darkness continued to engulf her.
Qing Luan was lost in the abyss.
