Chapter 12: However, Martial Sister Bai Lian Has Already Seen Through Everything (1)
Bai Lian’s sword moved swiftly.
The blade struck true, cutting through the double-headed dragon’s vitality and instantly shattering its nascent soul. With its second chance at survival severed, the beast’s fate was sealed.
Initially, Bai Lian intended to reprimand the double-headed dragon for its transgressions. However, after obtaining its inner pill, she chose to be merciful. After all, she wasn’t a demon.
Good.
With the inner pill of this Nascent Soul Stage demonic beast, Bai Lian could elevate her second Martial Sister’s spiritual root to the ultimate-grade fire-type spiritual root. This was the power of the Holy Spiritual Root—capable of actively improving one’s aptitude. Such uniqueness was unparalleled, even across the entire East Divine Land. Without it, her second Martial Sister wouldn’t have stood a chance at the ten-year appointment on Yunshan Mountain in Yingzhou.
Bai Lian tucked the inner pill safely into her clothes. After gathering some useful materials from the dragon’s body, she disposed of the remains in the Li River.
Qing Luan, watching from the side, whispered hesitantly, “Martial Sister Bai Lian, isn’t it a pity to throw away the snake meat?”
Bai Lian shook her head. She had principles—she would never eat anything capable of speaking human words.
Of course, this wasn’t something she could explain to Qing Luan.
Instead, it was time for her customary speech about eliminating demons!
With her robes fluttering, Bai Lian declared, “The Li River nurtured the double-headed dragon, but instead of repaying the mother river, it brought harm. Not only did it endanger ordinary people, but it also oppressed its fellow demons. This is unjust! Now that the double-headed dragon is dead, I return its body to the Li River. May it atone for its sins in death.”
“…”
Qing Luan stared in awe.
Elder Martial Sister Bai Lian…
Ah. She’s really…
Qing Luan quickly composed herself. If anyone else—like Hong Luan—had said such words, she would have scoffed. But coming from Bai Lian, it was different. Bai Lian truly embodied the values she preached.
Qing Luan believed that if the creatures of the Li River had sentience, they would undoubtedly appreciate Bai Lian’s kindness. Even the double-headed dragon, if it retained its thoughts after death, would surely feel gratitude for the chance to atone.
In Qing Luan’s eyes, the Li River had transformed into a river of emotions.
—
“Let’s go down and take a look,” Bai Lian said.
Slaying the double-headed dragon wasn’t the ultimate goal—rescuing the captured flower demon was.
“Haw.”
The flower demon perched on the Jade Rabbit’s head nodded eagerly.
The previous day, it had listened to a story told by the Jade Rabbit:
> Long ago, the Jade Rabbit had wandered outside, famished and desperate. In its hunger, it had stolen grass from the Qiongming Peak’s medicine garden.
Elder Martial Sister Bai Lian, instead of punishing it immediately, had silently allowed the Jade Rabbit to eat to its heart’s content.
However, when the theft became excessive, Bai Lian had given the Jade Rabbit a “small punishment.”
> “Pay with your body!”
> The Jade Rabbit had been terrified, thinking it would be roasted alive.
> But contrary to its fears, Bai Lian had not only forgiven it but had also given it a new home—a place where it could eat and drink happily every day.
Indeed, Bai Lian was a good person, just as the eldest lady had said!
With these thoughts, the flower demon eagerly followed Bai Lian into the double-headed dragon’s temporary nest.
—
The double-headed dragon, having practiced for centuries, possessed some basic knowledge of magic arrays. As a result, its cave was well-protected. Without Bai Lian’s 6 points in Magic Circle mastery, entry would have been challenging.
“It seems rather simple,” Bai Lian remarked, surveying the area. Perhaps this was due to it being a temporary hideout.
“Haw!”
Suddenly, the flower demon dashed toward the cave’s depths, its small figure disappearing around a corner.
“Found it?” Bai Lian quickened her pace.
After navigating a narrow passage, she entered a circular chamber. There, lying on a bluestone slab, was a nearly withered flower.
“Haw!”
The Jade Rabbit and the flower demon rushed to the bluestone. The Jade Rabbit cradled the flower delicately while the flower demon drooped its head, visibly sorrowful.
It was as if the flower demon were gazing at another version of itself, now dying. Nectar began to drip from its petals—a manifestation of its grief.
Bai Lian tasted a faint bitterness and saltiness in the air. Was this the flower demon’s ability?
Extending her divine sense, Bai Lian confirmed that the flower still clung to life.
“Emmm…”
She sighed. It seemed the Blood Tree Patriarch would need to make another sacrifice. Perhaps she should send it some gifts in return for its continued aid.
After comforting the Jade Rabbit and the two flower demons, Bai Lian turned her attention to searching the cave.
—
Unfortunately, the double-headed dragon’s lair proved disappointingly barren. Bai Lian found no spirit stones, leading her to wonder if the beast had hidden its treasures elsewhere.
In the end, the only item of note she discovered was a square metal card, roughly the size of a mahjong tile.
“This…”
Bai Lian examined the card carefully, flipping it over multiple times. A miniature magic array was etched into its surface, though it had been destroyed. As it was, the card seemed utterly mundane.
Yet something about it felt oddly familiar.
“Where have I seen this before?” Bai Lian murmured, frowning.
Was it in the game?
She cursed under her breath. If only she’d paid more attention to the plot back when she played!
Damn it!
