Chapter 7: Little Sun, Martial Sister Bai Lian
Bonfires lit up in all directions.
The Aurora Boat docked at the edge of the valley.
When Bai Lian came out of the darkness holding Si Yunshang, she saw a group of women—a group of aggressive women!
She could feel the surging pressure from more than ten feet away. This sense of heaviness made her feel as though she was trudging through water, and even the temperature of the surrounding air dropped.
This was not an illusion, nor was it a psychological effect.
To Bai Lian’s left, a girl cultivating an ice cultivation method stood surrounded by countless fine shards of ice, as though she were made of snow wrapped in a pale storm shield.
She was the culprit behind the sudden drop in temperature! Judging from her attire, she was likely a disciple of the Biluo Sect.
This group of grumpy women naturally divided into two factions, facing each other across a narrow, two-person-wide path.
It seemed this confrontation had been going on for some time.
Bai Lian wasn’t surprised. Such situations were quite common.
Though they were all members of the Ten Thousand Immortals League, it was a loose organization, and disputes were inevitable.
At least these women had shown restraint by not starting a fight.
Bai Lian decided to take a detour.
If her presence was synonymous with “Death,” then the expressions on these women’s faces screamed “Trouble.”
Just as she turned to leave, a startling voice suddenly called out from the crowd.
“The Duxian Sect friend over there, please stay!”
I don’t want to!
In the world of cultivation, anyone who calls out like this is usually not a good person!
Bai Lian lowered her head and quickened her pace.
But with so many people on the other side, it was inevitable that she would be stopped.
After walking just a few hundred feet, someone blocked her path.
She looked up, her face a mask of confusion.
“What can I do for you?”
A female cultivator in red pointed at her and shouted, “You’re so rude! We called you so many…”
“Chong’e, don’t lose etiquette!”
A melodious female voice interrupted from the rear.
Hearing that voice, Bai Lian suddenly felt a deep sense of crisis.
She turned stiffly.
The sight before her confirmed her fears: Shen Xiangling, the Saint of Biluo Sect, stood there. Next to her was Xia Qingqing of the Tianji Sect.
Could the earlier confrontation have been between Biluo Sect and Tianji Sect?
Bai Lian was perplexed.
Shen Xiangling and Xia Qingqing’s gazes shifted between her, Si Yunshang, and the jade rabbit. Their expressions were strange.
Has my identity been exposed?
Silently, Bai Lian saw new task options appear before her eyes:
[Task 1]: Confess your true identity before being found (Reward: Soul Searching Charm)
[Task 2]: Continue to act stupid (Reward: Cooking +1)
She chose Task 2 without hesitation.
Confess my identity? Absolutely not. That would only lead to trouble!
The Saint was the first to speak. “Is this heroine a disciple of the Duxian Sect?”
Bai Lian nodded. “Yes. I’m in a hurry. Can I leave now?”
“The Saint is asking…”
“Chong’e!”
“Yes.”
The female cultivator named Chong’e stepped back reluctantly.
Even the Saint has troublemakers in her ranks, Bai Lian thought.
Xia Qingqing spoke next. “Don’t worry, we just have a few questions for you.”
Bai Lian replied curtly, “Then ask. I’m in a hurry.”
“My apologies.”
Xia Qingqing clasped her hands, an awkward smile on her face.
Bai Lian would have thought she was Xia Qingqing’s twin sister if not for her unique body fragrance.
The Saint pointed to the jade rabbit. “If I’m not mistaken, isn’t that Fairy Bai Lian’s pet? Why is it with you?”
Xia Qingqing nodded eagerly. She remembered the jade rabbit’s adorable appearance vividly.
Recently, after questioning disciples of the Duxian Sect, she had learned that Bai Lian had come to Mount Yuheng as a temporary deacon, although she hadn’t participated in the trial.
Now that the jade rabbit was here, it suggested Bai Lian wasn’t far away.
Caught under their scrutinizing gazes, Bai Lian’s mind raced. Spotting Si Yunshang lying on her flying sword, inspiration struck.
She blinked hard, forcing tears to well up in her eyes.
Then, with dramatic flair, she threw herself onto Si Yunshang and wailed, “Elder Martial Sister, I’m so sorry!”
“Ah, this…”
The Saint looked stunned.
The Tianji Sect disciples nearby murmured amongst themselves.
“She’s so scared of the Biluo Sect Saint that she’s crying.”
“See? That Saint is definitely not a good person!”
After a while, Bai Lian rose from Si Yunshang, wiping her tear-streaked face with her sleeve.
“I’m sorry,” she stammered, “I wasn’t trying to accuse anyone. I just… remembered something that happened earlier. My apologies.”
The jade rabbit tilted its head. “?”
Xia Qingqing asked hesitantly, “What happened earlier?”
With reddened eyes, Bai Lian explained, “While my elder martial sister and I were on a trial, we discovered Demon Sect disciples causing trouble. If only I hadn’t been so impulsive, my martial sister wouldn’t have ended up like this…”
The jade rabbit, utterly baffled, twitched its nose. “?”
This confession struck a chord with Xia Qingqing, reminding her of her own naivety in Grey Wind Town. She sighed deeply and handed Bai Lian a bottle of healing pills.
“These might help your martial sister. Please take them as compensation.”
Bai Lian took the medicine bottle, her hands trembling. “Thank you, Martial Sister. You’re as kind as Martial Sister Bai Lian!”
“How…?”
Xia Qingqing scratched her cheek shyly.
From the sidelines, the Saint quietly observed.
After Bai Lian’s dramatic performance, Shen Xiangling could no longer suspect her of being Bai Lian.
Instead, she felt ashamed of having delayed this poor girl’s urgent mission.
In a gesture of guilt, she handed over her personal stash of high-quality cultivation pills.
Bai Lian accepted them all graciously, her demeanor polite yet brisk. “Thank you. I understand your intentions. By the way, if you’re looking for Martial Sister Bai Lian, she went north chasing Demon Sect disciples.”
The Saint felt even more humbled by the girl’s forgiveness.
As Bai Lian walked back to the Aurora Boat, she called out, “I’ll let you know if I hear any news about Martial Sister Bai Lian!”
Moments later, her figure vanished into the night.
“Let’s go back,” the Saint murmured.
Shen Xiangling and Xia Qingqing parted ways, their rivalry temporarily set aside, though neither spared the other a farewell glance.
