Chapter 22: Today, Be An Immortal Again! (2)
After shaking her head, Bai Lian was gripped by a surge of fear.
In The Battle of the Gods, even “Protagonists” weren’t immune to death. There were simply too many “Protagonists” to guarantee their safety.
Now that the game’s plot had deviated from its original course, any accident could have turned fatal. If, for instance, the Demon Soul’s strength had been just 10% greater, Bai Lian might have lost her younger Martial Sister forever.
That thought was utterly unacceptable!
With a calm voice that concealed her unease, Bai Lian said, “If you’re lacking resources, tell me directly. I’ll find a way to get them for you. Don’t take risks like this again. If something happens to you two… how could I or the Master bear it?”
I’m afraid.
Xiao Jinse and Su Youwei exchanged guilty glances.
“Well…”
“Elder Martial Sister, we’re sorry,” Xiao Jinse admitted, lowering her head.
Bai Lian nodded. “It’s good that you understand. There will be consequences later.”
“Yes,” they replied in unison.
Watching her two younger Martial Sisters, who had been so eager to take responsibility earlier, Bai Lian felt a wave of relief.
Just two months ago, they wouldn’t have stood up for each other like this.
Is this the legendary empathy between Protagonists?
The bond they’d formed in such a short time was deep. Given a few more years, it would undoubtedly grow stronger.
Bai Lian allowed herself a moment to dream about the future.
A united Qiongming Peak would surely shake the entire East Divine Land!
By then, as their Martial Sister, she could retire gracefully and enjoy a carefree life of leisure.
Her daydream was interrupted when Xiao Jinse stepped forward and pulled several bottles from her storage ring.
“Elder Martial Sister, these medicinal pills are too advanced for me right now. I think they’ll be more useful in your hands.”
Damn it! She beat me to it again!
Su Youwei clenched her fists, cursing herself. Why didn’t I think of that first?
Without missing a beat, she retrieved her own stash of medicinal pills.
“Elder Martial Sister, take these too,” she said, pushing them forward.
Bai Lian stared at the bottles in surprise. “But you…”
Xiao Jinse cut in, “The pills you gave us earlier are more than enough for a long time.”
“Uh-huh!” Su Youwei nodded fervently, like a chick pecking at rice.
Taking the bottles, Bai Lian felt an unexpected sting of emotion.
In spring, I planted two younger Martial Sisters.
Now, in autumn, the Martial Sisters have borne fruit!
These medicinal pills were more than sufficient to push her to the peak of the Golden Core Stage. With this breakthrough, saving Si Yunshang would be far easier.
“Come back to the Aurora Boat with me,” Bai Lian said.
“Yes, Martial Sister!”
Shortly after returning to the Aurora Boat, Bai Lian received a message from He Yurou.
He Yurou informed her that Si Yunshang wanted to meet “Chen Lu.” Bai Lian agreed immediately.
The meeting took place in an open space, where a gentle breeze rustled through the air.
Si Yunshang stood motionless, her expression unreadable, devoid of sadness or joy.
Finally, she was face-to-face with the “Chen Lu” who had once imitated Fairy Bai Lian.
What did it matter now, whether something was true or false?
A faint smile gradually warmed Si Yunshang’s face.
She looked directly at Bai Lian and said, “Miss Chen Lu, thank you for saving me. I thought I’d never see you again.”
Bai Lian offered a bitter smile. “I’m also glad to see you healthy.”
Si Yunshang had returned to life. Any lingering danger seemed to have dissipated.
The open space grew quiet, the silence stretching between them.
After what felt like an eternity, Si Yunshang broke it. “Miss Chen Lu, I’m leaving.”
Bai Lian blinked, taken aback. “Where are you going?”
Si Yunshang whispered, “The Lingxu Sect.”
Though her voice was carried away by the wind, Bai Lian understood the words from her lips.
“Are you seeking revenge against the Lingxu Sect?”
“No,” Si Yunshang replied. “I’m going to reclaim what’s rightfully mine!”
“…”
Was Si Yunshang aiming for the sect leader’s position of the Lingxu Sect?
If so, she would truly become a Demon Woman in every sense.
Si Yunshang’s voice broke the silence. “Miss Chen Lu, will you not stop me?”
Bai Lian shook her head. “I respect your decision.”
Si Yunshang bit her lips.
After witnessing Bai Lian’s interactions with her younger Martial Sisters, she had already guessed the answer. Still, as she had initially hoped, she wanted to hear Bai Lian say it aloud.
Gathering her courage, she asked, “Miss Chen Lu, do you remember the last thing I said before I fainted?”
Bai Lian nodded faintly. “Yes, of course.”
Si Yunshang brushed away the strands of hair blown loose by the wind. “Miss Chen Lu, if I invite you to accompany me to the Lingxu Sect, will you agree?”
“I…”
Before Bai Lian could finish, Si Yunshang interrupted her. “You don’t need to answer right away.”
She began painting a picture of what life in the Lingxu Sect could offer Bai Lian:
No burdensome expectations.
No need to cater to anyone’s demands.
A chance to live as her true self.
The adoration of the entire Lingxu Sect.
It was the ideal life for someone who desired nothing more than to idle away their days.
Bai Lian smiled at the thought. It was, indeed, the carefree life she yearned for.
But…
Her smile faded as concerns filled her mind.
Could her two younger Martial Sisters continue to live in harmony if she left?
What of the two others still wandering outside? Would they ever escape their tragic fates?
And what if Master An Lan’s long-dormant enemy suddenly reappeared one morning?
The weight of these thoughts brought her back to reality. She gazed at Si Yunshang with a solemn expression. “Miss Si, have you already discovered my true identity?”
“That’s right,” Si Yunshang answered nonchalantly.
“Then my answer is that I cannot leave Qiongming Peak.”
Si Yunshang tilted her head, a sly smile creeping onto her lips. “What would Chen Lu say?”
Bai Lian shrugged. “She would seriously consider your proposal. But she would also be wary of your motives—Chen Lu is a cautious person.”
Si Yunshang lowered her gaze, a bittersweet smile playing on her lips.
After a moment, she looked up again. “That sounds exactly like the Miss Chen Lu I know.”
The space fell silent once more.
Birds flitted overhead, their wings slicing through the stillness.
Si Yunshang believed she had received her answer and said her farewell to Chen Lu.
But this wasn’t the end.
This was merely a tactical retreat.
When direct confrontation proved futile, one had to adapt.
Si Yunshang had accepted everything left behind by Zhi He, but she vowed to dominate it with her own will.
Once she gained the strength to eliminate the looming disaster, she would march to Duxian Sect and claim “Chen Lu” as hers.
And she was confident that day would come soon.
“Miss Chen Lu, let’s part ways here.”
“Mm.”
“Don’t see me off.”
“I won’t.”
“I’m leaving now.”
Si Yunshang turned away.
As she walked, the “Zhi He” that had sunk into her divine sense fused completely with her soul.
With each step forward, her cultivation rose.
When her power reached its peak, an intense light erupted from her divine sense, sweeping through the forest like a tidal wave.
Bai Lian watched as Si Yunshang ascended, her white robes transforming into purple, like a lotus blooming in the depths of hell.
“If she isn’t a fairy descending from Mount Qunyu, she must be a goddess from Yao Terrace under the moonlight,” Bai Lian murmured to herself.
This new Si Yunshang…
The pressure she exuded felt overwhelming, but it wasn’t oppressive—it was gentle, like a spring breeze.
Bai Lian began to sense where the true danger lay.
Today, Zhi He had returned.
And today, the Chen Lu who had once imitated Bai Lian no longer existed.
“The Soul Changing Stage…” Bai Lian whispered.
Meanwhile, outside the forest, He Yurou stood frozen, staring at the countless birds flocking above.
Zhu Xian
Well, this is a very amazing moment.
