Chapter 12: I Lied to You
Bai Lian finally understood why the danger of doing nothing was different from sneaking into the White Tiger Hall.
When she entered the White Tiger Hall with Si Yunshang, she felt an overwhelming, terrifying presence.
A Nascent Soul Stage cultivator!
Bai Lian looked up and saw the leader of the White Tiger Hall standing high in the sky.
Back so soon!
The leader of the White Tiger Hall pressed down with his right fist, and a golden fist made of spirit Qi immediately shattered the heavy defenses of the three-layered array protecting the forbidden area.
Half of the buildings in the White Tiger Hall were reduced to dust by the aftershock.
Bai Lian swallowed nervously.
Now she understood the danger that the best-grade magic tool presented——
The wrath of a Nascent Soul Stage cultivator.
Thinking about it logically, it made sense!
A Nascent Soul Stage cultivator could fully harness the power of the best magic tools. If the cultivator’s strength was even greater, they would use spirit tools instead.
Bai Lian was relieved that she hadn’t rushed in. At her current strength, she could fight someone at the middle stage of the Nascent Soul Stage, but if she faced a powerful figure like the leader of the White Tiger Hall, she would have no chance.
“Damn it!”
Why is it that when I stay out of trouble, so many things still go wrong? I should’ve just waited quietly for the Duxian sect’s reinforcements to come and clean up the White Tiger Hall.
Bai Lian looked around and spotted a hole leading underground.
“I’ll find a place to hide first.”
She was about to walk over when a hand suddenly grabbed her sleeve. She turned to see Si Yunshang’s delicate face slightly furrowed.
Bai Lian asked, “What is it?”
Si Yunshang said, “Chen Lu, didn’t you tell me you and Fairy Bai Lian were equal partners and often defeated her? Now that the White Tiger Hall is in chaos, if we catch the leader here, the Huaxin sect will remain unaware, and we’ll also uncover the details of their operations.”
She was serious!
Bai Lian realized that Si Yunshang wasn’t making fun of her.
Why did you believe me?
Bai Lian hesitated.
If she admitted that she was Bai Lian now, her reputation would be ruined.
“Swindler,” “Evildoer,” “You’re unworthy of being our Elder Martial Sister!”
Especially the last one, it hit Bai Lian hard.
No way!
“Miss Si.” Bai Lian said seriously, “I’m sorry, I lied to you. Compared to Martial Sister Bai Lian, how can someone like me, a waste, be on the same level?”
A deep disappointment appeared in Si Yunshang’s eyes, but she quickly hid it.
“Oh, I knew it.”
Bai Lian hurried underground with Si Yunshang and the jade rabbit.
The candles on the walls had been snuffed out. Bai Lian used her spirit Qi to illuminate the area.
Before them was clearly a prison.
There were no living beings, only dark red walls, scattered bones, and deformed mummies.
“These people were sacrifices used to awaken the Demon Soul,” Si Yunshang said.
Her expression was unexpectedly calm, but Bai Lian noticed something in that calmness.
Bai Lian said, “Miss Si, you’re not like the usual disciples of the demon sect.”
Si Yunshang didn’t answer immediately. She seemed to be recalling something before shaking her head. “No.”
Does this mean her heart hasn’t been tainted yet?
Bai Lian took out her jade slip, which contained a message from Xiao Jinse. The second Martial Sister had informed her that they were following the army to participate in a trial. For a moment, Bai Lian no longer focused on Si Yunshang.
Si Yunshang glanced at Bai Lian.
It just so happened that she wasn’t in the mood to talk.
As they sat in silence, Si Yunshang suddenly felt the temperature plummeting.
The air became freezing.
Si Yunshang shivered violently.
She had kidney deficiency, and since Bai Lian had sealed her tendons and veins, she couldn’t use her spirit Qi to warm herself. She felt as though she had been stripped and thrown into a freezing snowstorm.
She curled up, but it didn’t help.
Si Yunshang stood up, intending to move her body to generate some warmth.
But as she raised her arms, she recalled that Bai Lian had given her a secret medicine that would make her rise in “Tide” if she exercised vigorously.
“…”
Si Yunshang stamped her foot in frustration. She glared at Bai Lian, then sat back down.
As her gaze wandered, she noticed the jade rabbit holding the Golden Snake Lance.
That rabbit must be warm. If I could just hold it…
The jade rabbit turned away, presenting its fluffy backside to Si Yunshang.
Damn it!
It’s just a little cold. There’s no way I can freeze to death, right?
After all, I’m a cultivator at the Golden Core Stage!
Si Yunshang gritted her teeth and curled up even tighter.
Gradually, she felt as though she had fallen into an ice cave. Her hands and feet went numb, and her vision blurred as if covered by countless snowflakes.
Through her blurry vision, she saw the mummies in the left cell beginning to stir.
A familiar figure, a familiar dress, a familiar face.
Just like in the past.
“If only I had gained strength earlier…”
The sudden murmur startled Bai Lian.
“What did you say?”
Bai Lian turned around.
Si Yunshang didn’t respond but muttered to herself, “Don’t worry. Even though I won’t live long, I’ll destroy the Huaxin sect before I die.”
“?”
Is this a threat or a promise?
Well, she is a Demon Woman. It’s normal for her to lie.
Bai Lian gave Si Yunshang a quick glance and was startled by what she saw. Si Yunshang’s face had turned pale, and she had no color in her cheeks. Bai Lian reached out to touch her and found that her skin felt as cold as metal.
New tasks appeared.
[Task 1: Let Si Yunshang freeze to death (Reward: Jinwu Tianxiang Array)]
[Task 2: Help Si Yunshang warm up in a normal way (Reward: Painting +1)]
“If she freezes to death, would that be my fault?”
Bai Lian was taken aback for a moment.
She took out the inner pill of the white tiger that had been killed by the jade rabbit and placed it in Si Yunshang’s hand.
The fire-type inner pill worked much better than a hand warmer. After a while, Si Yunshang’s complexion returned to normal.
Now, there was no danger.
Bai Lian stretched.
Just as she was about to settle down, a cold body suddenly pressed against her thigh.
“…”
Why is she so troublesome?
Bai Lian reluctantly removed her outer garment and draped it over Si Yunshang.
Si Yunshang murmured, “Actually, I never wanted to be a cultivator. I’m so tired… If I were as strong as Fairy Bai Lian, you wouldn’t have been hurt… In fact, Chen Lu isn’t bad. She’s just a bit too timid.”
Bai Lian opened her mouth.
Is that a compliment or criticism?
Still, she didn’t want to argue with Si Yunshang right now, and oddly, she didn’t mind the situation.
After a long silence, Bai Lian took out her jade slip once again.
It simply contained one line:
[Elder Martial Sister, I’ve arrived at the White Tiger Hall with the third Martial Sister.]
