Chapter 8: Why Are You So Fierce
Su Youwei sat on the bed, silently watching as Bai Lian moved the strange woman’s body with methodical precision.
Sometimes, Bai Lian placed her on the ground, sometimes with her back arched, sometimes lying on the table.
About a quarter of an hour later, Bai Lian stood back, looking satisfied with her work.
Although Bai Lian’s medical skills weren’t exceptional, they were certainly better than a “Veterinarian” or a “Butcher.” Treating the woman’s obvious injuries was an easy task for her.
Su Youwei pursed her lips, her vigilance gradually easing—but in its place, doubt began to grow.
She couldn’t understand Bai Lian anymore.
Bai Lian hadn’t done anything inappropriate while tending to the woman.
Clearly, she could have taken advantage of the situation, yet her gaze remained as calm as if she were simply treating a monkey.
People didn’t get heated with monkeys, right?
At least, that was what Su Youwei thought.
She couldn’t quite figure out what Bai Lian’s intentions were.
If Bai Lian was simply not interested in the woman, then fine—everyone had their own preferences. Maybe Bai Lian just liked bullying her Martial Sisters.
But if Bai Lian was pretending…
She was pretending too well.
With first-class acting skills, far more self-control than the average person, and her special position in the Duxian sect, Bai Lian was truly terrifying.
“Never be deceived by her!”
Su Youwei silently reminded herself.
Bai Lian, meanwhile, took one last look at the woman still lying on the ground.
While healing her, a new task had appeared. Among the options was one that would allow Bai Lian to take advantage of the woman. The reward? Surprisingly high—top-grade tool refining material.
At the time, Bai Lian had thought something was off about this woman.
She might be pretending to sleep, or she could possess special magic tools that recorded everything around her.
Her background was likely significant—perhaps even her sect was stronger than the Duxian sect.
Bai Lian wasn’t interested in this woman, and even if she were, the situation didn’t warrant taking advantage of her.
“Women are so troublesome…”
Bai Lian’s gaze shifted briefly between Su Youwei and the strange woman.
But soon, she pushed the thought away. Not all women were troublesome. At least the second Martial Sister was very cute.
While waiting for the woman to wake up on her own, Bai Lian took out her reward: A Pool of Spring Water.
It was a viscous, transparent liquid with no particular smell.
According to the description, it could be used like balm—either applied externally or ingested.
Even if a Golden Core Stage cultivator came into contact with it, the effects would be noticeable on their mind.
“Seems useless?” Bai Lian muttered.
Elder Martial Sister Bai Lian, are you really expecting this thing to help her? No, that’s impossible.
After a moment of hesitation, Bai Lian decided to keep the liquid. It didn’t take up much space.
She placed the bottle into the storage pendant hanging on her chest, her attention drifting back to the strange woman, who was trembling slightly. It seemed she was about to wake up.
“You’re awake!”
The moment Xia Qingqing opened her eyes, she heard a soft voice, warm with kindness, reaching her ears.
Her vision gradually adjusted to the dimness of the room. A cold yet beautiful face hovered in her line of sight, accompanied by a cute rabbit perched on the edge of the table, its curious gaze fixed on her.
“It seems the treatment was successful. It won’t take long for your injuries to heal.”
“Th… Thank you…”
Xia Qingqing’s voice was hoarse, but it was clear.
In truth, she had woken up long ago.
The effect of the overpowering drug on her had been minimal due to the Meditation Jade Pendant she carried, which greatly reduced its potency.
When Bai Lian had attempted to remove her clothing, Xia Qingqing had been ready to stand up and shout at her. But the memory of the beating she had received earlier that day made her hesitate.
She considered for a moment. Bai Lian was a woman after all, and surely a woman wouldn’t do something inappropriate to another woman. So, instead of reacting immediately, she decided to observe Bai Lian first.
Fortunately, Xia Qingqing hadn’t guessed wrong—Bai Lian truly didn’t do anything except heal her wounds.
Xia Qingqing was deeply moved. Even in a place like Gray Wind Town, there were still good people.
My justice is not alone!
Xia Qingqing stood up resolutely, took out a jade pendant, and handed it to Bai Lian.
“This is my token of gratitude.”
“You are too kind!” Bai Lian replied. Despite her words, she accepted the pendant. Such a valuable item used as a thank-you gift? This woman must be from a powerful and wealthy sect.
“Which sect are you from?” Bai Lian asked curiously.
Xia Qingqing fell silent. Memories flooded her mind.
Before coming to Gray Wind Town for the trial, her Elder Martial Brother had warned her to restrain her impulsiveness, think carefully in difficult situations, and not try to handle everything on her own. Her Martial Sister had echoed similar advice, but Xia Qingqing hadn’t taken their words to heart. She had been convinced that, as a champion of justice, her righteousness would always prevail.
Now, she regretted everything.
If only she hadn’t acted so recklessly—her Martial Sister wouldn’t have been captured, her younger Martial Brothers wouldn’t have gone missing, and she wouldn’t have ended up in this dire situation.
Tears welled up in Xia Qingqing’s eyes as she thought bitterly about whether she would ever see her senior brother or master again. She wiped her eyes with her sleeve, but it was quickly soaked through.
“?!”
Bai Lian frowned. “Why are you crying? Is your mental fortitude really this poor?”
She hesitated, then asked tentatively, “What are you going to do next?”
Xia Qingqing let out a bitter laugh.
Do what? Of course, I’ll do everything I can to kill them and rescue my Martial Sister and brothers.
She was a disciple of the Tianji Sect, after all. Even if it cost her life, she couldn’t just turn tail and run.
With a sharp clang, Xia Qingqing drew the sword that had suddenly appeared in her hand.
“Disciples of the Tianji Sect die standing! Today, I will fight those people to the end!”
Before Bai Lian could respond, Xia Qingqing raised her sword and rushed out of the inn.
“Are you stupid?!”
Bai Lian swiftly grabbed Xia Qingqing’s wrist. Her grip was as unyielding as a vise, rendering Xia Qingqing unable to move.
“Let me go!” Xia Qingqing struggled desperately. “If my Elder Martial Sister and brothers die because of me, how can I live with myself?”
Just then, Bai Lian saw three options appear before her.
[Task 1: Let Xia Qingqing leave (Reward: Secret Book of Wind and Thunder)]
[Task 2: Persuade her (Reward: Spiritual Herb – Streamer Vine)]
[Task 3: Scold her! (Reward: Hard Skill +2)]
“?!”
Bai Lian blinked in surprise. Persuading Xia Qingqing seemed risky, but scolding her? That seemed much safer.
After a brief hesitation, she chose Task 3.
“Stupid!” Bai Lian snapped, her voice sharp. “You’re from the Tianji Sect, right? Do you really think rushing out there now will earn you any praise for your courage? Don’t make me laugh! They’ll just say the Tianji Sect raised a brainless fool!”
Xia Qingqing’s eyes turned red with anger. She gritted her teeth. “Why are you being so harsh?”
Bai Lian paused but quickly doubled down. “Oh, you’re talking back now, huh? Listen here—someone like you, with your skills, wouldn’t last a second! I could take down ten people like you without even using spiritual power. You’re just—pathetic!”
Her words hit Xia Qingqing like a barrage of arrows, piercing her confidence. Her eyes reddened further, and finally, tears streamed down her face.
“I’m wrong! I’m sorry, I’m sorry…”
Xia Qingqing’s knees gave way, and she crumpled to the ground, her sword slipping from her hand. Any thought of fighting had completely vanished.
“…”
Bai Lian blinked, slightly taken aback.
It seems scolding her worked surprisingly well.
