Chapter 7: Bai Lian’s Winning Method
A simple little bed.
A flickering candle.
And a rabbit watching, its ears stretched out in nervousness.
In this dim environment, the tense and exciting game of *Gomoku lasted for nearly half an hour.
[*Gomoku is a turn-based two-player game played on a 15×15 board with black and white pieces.]
“Well—”
Su Youwei, who had been sitting near the wall like a duck, now blushed as though she were drunk. Sweat coated her body, and her skirt clung to her collarbone, damp with perspiration. A faint fog seemed to form around her head.
She was dying!
Looking once again at the five black chess pieces lined up in a row on the board, Su Youwei’s body trembled slightly, as though she might collapse at any moment.
How could this happen?
It was a game with extremely simple rules!
But in the face of Bai Lian’s relentless attacks, she was completely overwhelmed. In the end, she hadn’t won a single round.
Is this the suppression of IQ?
Su Youwei was dizzy after nearly half an hour of continuous torture.
She even began to doubt whether she could truly follow Bai Lian’s [Plan] and “use” Bai Lian to strengthen herself.
No.
Su Youwei firmly grabbed a corner of the quilt with her right hand. Her small face was tight with determination, and her eyes burned with unwillingness.
She couldn’t just throw in the towel!
This had to be Bai Lian’s conspiracy. Bai Lian must be deliberately attacking her self-confidence this way!
“Again…”
Su Youwei leaned out her left hand, intending to rearrange the pieces, but suddenly, a hand stretched out from the side and grabbed her wrist.
“Ah—”
Su Youwei’s body stiffened.
Her eyes slowly climbed up the white arm and finally met Bai Lian’s smiling face.
Su Youwei had always been confident in her appearance, but when she saw Bai Lian’s true face, her heart skipped a beat.
Her face was like a lotus flower, with eyebrows like slender willow leaves.
The earring on her ear seemed to contain the stars, with the most dazzling one ★ positioned under the corner of her right eye.
Su Youwei couldn’t help but sigh.
No wonder this ★ can attract so many foolish women.
“Let’s call it a day,” Bai Lian said, releasing Su Youwei’s hand. Her eyes smiled, curving like crescent moons.
She was full of energy now!
But Su Youwei, who had been trampled on for half an hour, was quite different.
If it went on like this, the third Martial Sister might hit her head with the chessboard!
Humph.
At any rate, Su Youwei couldn’t have figured out the winning method of Gomoku in such a short time.
Bullying her younger Martial Sister was really such a comfortable thing.
While playing chess, Bai Lian had also gained an extra point in Calligraphy.
As Bai Lian began to clean up the chessboard, Su Youwei pressed down on it, her eyes slightly red as she said obstinately, “Once more. This time, I will win. If I win, I’ll rest!”
“?!”
That sounded familiar!
Bai Lian shook her head. “You’re not in good shape right now.”
Su Youwei retorted, “Nonsense! Who says I can’t do it?”
Bai Lian calmly pushed Su Youwei’s hand away. “When we return to Qiongming Peak, you’re welcome to challenge me anytime. But not now. You need to keep your spirits up so we can leave Gray Wind Town without getting surrounded by the Red Moon Sect.”
Su Youwei retreated gloomily, wrapping herself in the quilt like a wounded beast in the dark.
She had to remember what had happened tonight.
She couldn’t allow herself to be blinded by Bai Lian’s “kind-hearted” disguise!
“Haw.”
Su Youwei looked up.
She saw the jade rabbit, whose eyes were filled with a hint of disdain.
Trying to challenge the Natural Saint Bai Lian?
Ridiculous.
Stupid rabbit!
Su Youwei covered her head with the quilt, retreating further into the shadows.
Bai Lian sat by the window.
She didn’t need to sleep, so she might as well study the Magic Circle again.
Just after reading a few pages, she heard a loud noise from the street.
Bai Lian tucked the jade slip away and stood up to look out the window.
At that moment, the jade rabbit popped out of her clothes. Its two front paws were hanging on the window frame, and its head gently nudged upward. When it encountered an obstacle, it hurriedly backed away.
“…”
Bai Lian watched this scene expressionlessly.
She noticed a small opening in the street on the left side of the inn, which had once been full of debris, now cracked open.
Near the corner of the wall, a leg covered in bloody marks was exposed.
Bai Lian dispersed her divine sense and soon discovered that the person lying there was the “Heroine” who had had a dispute with the stall owner earlier that day.
The girl had been beaten badly, with bruises covering her head. She looked extremely weak. It seemed she had run all the way here after being pursued.
Three options appeared before Bai Lian:
[Task 1: Report the girl to the Red Moon Sect (Reward: Book of the Abyss)]
[Task 2: Ignore her (Reward: Top-grade magic tool – Demon Killing Pestle)]
[Task 3: Help the girl (Reward: Aphrodisiac – A Pool of Spring Water)]
“?!”
Bai Lian immediately discarded Task 1.
She wasn’t the kind of person to report others…
In her mind, the image of Tong Yao flashed briefly. Forget it, it was as if she hadn’t thought that thought at all.
After all, her conscience wouldn’t allow her to do something like that.
As for Task 2, the reward was certainly tempting, but Bai Lian already predicted the likely consequences.
Gray Wind Town wasn’t large. The Red Moon Sect would certainly search the entire town.
The smell of blood on the girl’s body could be detected from a distance. Once they found her, Bai Lian and Su Youwei would almost certainly be exposed as well.
Though helping the girl might bring some risk, at least, based on the reward, the risk seemed much lower in comparison.
“She’s really not vigilant at all,” Bai Lian sighed.
That was true.
Not everyone understood the dangers of the world the way she did.
After instructing the jade rabbit to keep an eye on the surroundings, Bai Lian jumped down and walked quickly to the girl, who was nearly fainting.
“You—”
“Hold your tongue!”
Bai Lian swiftly stunned the girl with a powerful sedative.
This woman was truly a troublemaker. It was better for her to sleep it off.
Bai Lian carefully used a water spell to cleanse the floor, making sure there was no trace of blood left in the air. Then, she carried the girl back to her room.
Just as Bai Lian entered, Su Youwei, who had finally calmed down and regained her composure, pulled the quilt off her head.
“?!”
What was this? Bai Lian had brought an injured woman back with her?!
Bai Lian gently laid the woman down on the floor and, without hesitation, began removing her outer clothing.
“You… what are you doing?”
“Of course, I’m helping her undress. She fainted.”
Su Youwei’s mind went blank. What… how…?
She actually did such a thing right in front of me?
Su Youwei’s back pressed against the wall in shock.
Was it because she angered Bai Lian earlier that Bai Lian now wanted to tear off the disguise and teach her a lesson?
Her mouth went dry, and she couldn’t bring herself to speak. Her eyes nervously flickered between Bai Lian and the fifth elder and her aunt, sweat pouring down her face like a waterfall.
Half an hour later, Bai Lian finally exhaled a breath of relief.
“Alright, done!”
“Eh?”
Su Youwei blinked in confusion. She had expected some kind of torture or worse, but instead, the strange woman was now dressed in a new suit. Bai Lian, calm as ever, used her spiritual power to crush the discarded clothes into a pile of dust.
Change… change clothes?
Su Youwei was utterly confused.
