Chapter 5: Previous Victim
Bai Lian crossed the street and landed on the window frame of the teahouse compartment without anyone noticing.
At that moment, the jade rabbit was squatting by the window. Its ears were pressed flat against its sides, only its eyes visible as it vigilantly scanned the street outside.
Bai Lian asked, “Have you found anyone who looks suspicious?”
The jade rabbit’s ears immediately pricked up, shaking left and right like a human palm.
No.
“Then leave here first.”
Bai Lian didn’t believe that the most dangerous place would necessarily be the safest. She planned to rent a room in an inn farther away. Fortunately, it was not the peak season for relic hunting, so she didn’t have to worry about the inn being crowded.
Of course, she wouldn’t go out into the wilds. Who knew if a demon beast was hidden in the sand? That kind of place had a wide open view, making it unsuitable for hiding.
“There are many cultivators in the city. It’s reasonable for me to cover up my identity with a magic trick as a hobby, isn’t it?”
Bai Lian noticed a group of people hurrying down the street. The strongest among them appeared to be in the early stages of the Golden Core realm.
They might be off to commit some misdeed.
In the Sand Region, this was nothing unusual, so Bai Lian didn’t think much of it.
Soon, she led Su Youwei and the jade rabbit to the door of an inn.
“You…”
System tasks naturally popped up.
[Task 1: Walk in with Su Youwei (Reward: a Spirit Herb – Ice Jade Vine)]
[Task 2: Go in alone (Reward: Cooking +1)]
Bai Lian’s mood brightened instantly. She liked this kind of simple task.
She didn’t plan to bring Su Youwei into the inn. After all, the third Martial Sister was the daughter of the Su family, and the innkeeper was very likely to recognize her.
The task reward also hinted that if Su Youwei showed up, the innkeeper would likely report her to the Su family or the Red Moon Sect.
“Wait outside first,” Bai Lian said, then entered the inn.
Su Youwei looked up.
She didn’t quite understand why Bai Lian had brought her to the inn. Was it because there was a bed inside? Was it more comfortable?
But she didn’t feel comfortable at all.
Never!!!
She only hoped that Bai Lian would rescue the Fifth Elder and her aunt as soon as possible.
A moment later, Bai Lian jumped out of the window of the inn room and brought Su Youwei and the jade rabbit in.
She did it secretly, using magic so no one noticed anything unusual.
As soon as they entered the room, Su Youwei was stunned.
In the middle of the room stood a large wooden barrel, with steam rising slowly from it.
A bath?
Su Youwei understood!
Bai Lian was going to bathe her before doing anything else.
No wonder Bai Lian had brought her to the inn.
She truly deserved her reputation as the famous Martial Sister Bai Lian of Qiongming Peak. To her surprise, she was very particular about this aspect.
Bai Lian pointed to the barrel and said, “I noticed you looked a little nervous and sweating. Take a bath to relax. This dress is too conspicuous; I’ll prepare a new set of clothes for you.”
She had even prepared special clothes!
This demon!
Su Youwei bit her lip.
She couldn’t refuse, but still asked, “When will you go to pick up my adoptive father and aunt?”
“I’ll go once you’re settled.”
Su Youwei nodded gently.
She closed her eyes and tried to remove her clothes in one swift motion, but her trembling body betrayed her unease.
Alas…
Su Youwei took off the hairpin from her head, and her snow-white hair cascaded down. Even the air seemed to grow colder.
Just as her hand reached her skirt, Bai Lian’s voice suddenly rang in her ear.
“I’ve placed new clothes on the edge of the barrel. You can change into them after you’ve washed.”
Su Youwei looked up. Somehow, Bai Lian had moved to the window, turned her back to her, and was holding a jade slip in her hand.
?
So she’s not going to watch me bathe?
Su Youwei felt a little confused. After hesitating for a long time, she quickly removed her underclothes, gently stepped into the barrel with her slender, bare feet, and then sank down.
At that moment, the advantage of her petite figure became apparent. Unless someone was standing right beside the barrel, they couldn’t see her at all.
Wow.
The sound of water disturbed the quiet night.
Bai Lian made up her mind.
With her strength, it would be easy to use magic to clean the third Martial Sister’s body. But if she let the third Martial Sister bathe in the barrel herself, maybe the system would issue a new task, and she could earn some skill points?
Sure enough, as soon as the third Martial Sister began to undress, she gained 1 point in Hard Skill.
“Too strong!”
But before Bai Lian could celebrate, she noticed that her jade slip had received a new message.
Xiao Jinse: [Elder Martial Sister, have you seen the third younger Martial Sister? Is she beautiful?]
“……”
Well, she was indeed good-looking.
But…
What clearly appeared in front of her were only cold words. Why did she feel a chill at the bottom of her heart? Was it because of the cold desert night?
Bai Lian carefully replied: [I just arrived in Gray Wind Town today and haven’t seen the third Martial Sister. I think her beauty should be inferior to yours.]
She didn’t receive any new messages for a long time.
Just when Bai Lian thought Xiao Jinse was no longer paying attention to her jade slip, a new message arrived.
Xiao Jinse: [I’m not as good as you said! Qiongming Peak will be lively when the third Martial Sister comes.]
But… I hope so!
Bai Lian suddenly had a bad premonition. She quickly cut off the topic and began telling Xiao Jinse about her experiences in Gray Wind Town.
The conversation between Bai Lian and Xiao Jinse didn’t end until Su Youwei finished her bath and put on the inferior magic tool Green Lotus Clothes.
“Ah, seriously!?” Bai Lian touched her forehead in frustration.
It was a pity that she only gained 1 point in Hard Skill.
Damn it!
Bai Lian was very upset. Did the system see through her scheme?
Su Youwei sat quietly by the bed, uncertain of how to describe her current feelings.
She had thought that Bai Lian would do something while she was bathing, or at the very least, watch her with eager eyes.
In the end, Bai Lian had merely sat by the window with a jade slip in her hand for nearly a quarter of an hour, like a wooden puppet.
Had she overthought it? Was her body not attractive to Bai Lian at all?
After changing into new clothes, Su Youwei was even more confused. The revealing outfit she had imagined didn’t exist at all.
The fabric of this new dress was much better than the one she had worn before, and it was an inferior magic tool!
What on earth was Bai Lian thinking?
As she pondered this, Su Youwei noticed Bai Lian move.
Is she coming?
A cold hand suddenly fell on her head, and she instinctively twisted her body, feeling unnatural.
“G-gently…” Su Youwei said in a trembling voice.
Bai Lian nodded. “Don’t worry, I will be very careful. I’ll try not to hurt you. Otherwise, it will be difficult to clean up later.”
“…”
Su Youwei froze, her heart racing.
Hurt me?
What on earth was this demon planning to do to me?
“I…”
For a moment, she wanted to trade the immortal relics for her freedom from Bai Lian, but she ultimately endured it.
Without the Ten Thousand Poison Pearl, she had nothing.
Come on.
All the pain and suffering would be buried deep inside her heart, eventually transforming into the fireworks of revenge.
Su Youwei opened her arms, waiting for Bai Lian to approach.
But after a long time, nothing happened.
She secretly opened her eyes and saw Bai Lian looking at her with a strange expression.
“Is your stomach bothering you?” Bai Lian asked.
“No, no.” Su Youwei quickly responded.
“Oh, that’s good. I’m not good with medicine. I’d be afraid of making it worse. Since you’re fine, you can rest here. I’ll go pick up your relatives.”
Eh?
Doesn’t she want me?
Su Youwei was at a loss.
As Bai Lian was about to jump out of the window, Su Youwei hurriedly asked, “What were you doing with that jade slip?”
Bai Lian replied, “I was chatting with my second Martial Sister, that is, your second Elder Martial Sister.”
“…”
Is she the previous victim?
Su Youwei pondered as Bai Lian left.
