Chapter 9 Part 2: The Jade Rabbit – My Jade Rabbit (2)

After all, the Taiyin Pillar is a divine treasure, coveted by even Celestial Immortals. Shouldn’t her cultivation base immediately be advanced to the Mahayana Stage?

Sigh. Bai Lian shook her head inwardly.

She realized that her expectations had been too high. While she may not have reached the Transmigration Stage yet, with the Immortal Spirit Stone’s power, she could contend with Transcendency Stage cultivators. Were she to suddenly ascend to the Mahayana Stage, she could very well defeat the Immortals and crush the Four Great Sects in the East Divine Land.

Bai Lian turned to glance at the jade rabbit.

The jade rabbit lay on the ground, its eyes wide, radiating light as brilliant as the stars.

The jade rabbit!

Had you planned all of this?

Bai Lian parted her lips, ready to speak, but the jade rabbit placed a finger on its own lips.

Shh.

It winked mischievously at Bai Lian.

Bai Lian smiled, understanding immediately.

She gently held the jade rabbit’s other paw.

The dream has yet to awaken. Let us savor the dreamlike stars together while we can. Perhaps this is the only chance in this life.

The jade rabbit sat up as Bai Lian gently tugged on her.

Her small form leaned into Bai Lian, the long ears drooping back.

The wind whispered.

The island soared.

The Milky Way spun.

The tranquility of this moment touched Bai Lian’s heart more than all her past excitement.

She cherished each fleeting moment with greed.

Still, she couldn’t grasp the setting moon in the west.

A little while later, Bai Lian noticed the jade rabbit’s figure becoming more and more transparent.

She understood that the jade rabbit was about to awaken from its dream.

At that time, the jade rabbit would forget everything that had transpired.

Because…

“It’s not yet time.”

When will that time arrive?

“When will you return?” Bai Lian whispered.

The jade rabbit reached out and drew a line of words in Bai Lian’s palm:

[I have always been with you.]

“…”

Bai Lian blushed, smiling. “Well, the jade rabbit is indeed the jade rabbit.”

She recalled her journey to Qiongming Peak and how the jade rabbit had stayed with her the entire way.

It seemed all of this was orchestrated by an invisible hand of fate.

Bai Lian thought again of “The Battle of the Gods.”

In that game, no matter how many times she restarted, she would always meet her master in that small town at dawn.

[This is the game mechanism.]

But what if it wasn’t just a game mechanism?

Never mind. Now is not the time to ponder such things.

Bai Lian gently embraced the jade rabbit, whispering in its ear, “I’ll wait until that time comes.”

Yes.

It will.

I will.

No matter how dark the night sky, there will always be a unique star shining brightly in it!

In the next moment, Bai Lian realized the jade rabbit had disappeared from her arms.

She quickly looked up.

Countless lights began to scatter, and from them, an arch-shaped bridge of shining lights appeared, leading to the heavens.

“That must be Yaoguang Star.”

Bai Lian stood silently, gazing at the scene before her.

Admiring the view alone, it was quite calming.

…

Autumn dew dampened her robes.

When Bai Lian opened her eyes again, the horizon had begun to brighten with a pink hue.

She stood on a ruined plain, still holding a sleeping rabbit.

The jade rabbit…

Bai Lian gently tapped the jade rabbit’s ear.

She wasn’t sure if it was due to her excessive force, but the jade rabbit slowly opened its eyes.

“Haw.”

The jade rabbit squirmed in her embrace and stretched its ears and paws.

Stretching.

After shaking off its fatigue, the jade rabbit surveyed the surroundings.

Ah.

It’s Bai Lian!

“Haw.”

The jade rabbit exclaimed in delight.

Good morning!

Bai Lian lifted the jade rabbit and affectionately tapped its forehead, causing it to let out a surprised squeal.

This act startled the jade rabbit, and it took a while before asking Bai Lian what had occurred.

“Do you remember what happened in the dream?” Bai Lian asked.

The jade rabbit shook its head slightly.

Did she even dream?

She was a Nascent Soul Stage rabbit, surely dreams had no place in her world?

That’s fine.

Bai Lian gently petted the jade rabbit’s ear and began explaining everything that had transpired the previous night.

[I, Elder Martial Sister Bai Lian, single-handedly defeated the demonic creatures causing chaos in the Taicang Basin!]

“Haw (Why did I fall asleep?)”

Bai Lian replied, “You passed out from the spell’s aftereffects.”

The jade rabbit, looking pitiful, accepted this explanation.

The jade rabbit lowered her head in embarrassment.

Although she hadn’t broken through to the Soul Changing Stage yet, for some reason, she was no longer overly concerned with it.

Isn’t it better to let things unfold naturally?

“We still need to visit the Wushan Holy Palace,” Bai Lian said.

Since she had decided to keep the secret from the jade rabbit, she had to play her part convincingly.

The jade rabbit had wanted to turn down Bai Lian’s offer, but in the end, she kept quiet.

Good.

This way, she would have more time to spend with Bai Lian!

After agreeing with the jade rabbit, Bai Lian turned and tore open the space in front of her.

She didn’t rush to leave the Taicang Basin. Before she left, she wanted to visit Fang Yan again, ensuring that no one would worry about her.

“Your Highness the Saint!”

Fang Yan, overjoyed, saw Bai Lian emerge from the rift and rushed to greet her.

He pointed toward the now lively refugees and the land restored to its lush green state.

“Your Highness the Saint, did you manage all of this?”

Bai Lian nodded. “It won’t happen again.”

She chose not to voice her suspicions about the looming disaster; there was no need to add to people’s fears.

Good!

Fang Yan clenched his fists tightly.

He had never been so pleased as he was now. Though he wasn’t the one who resolved it, it was Your Highness the Saint who did.

Martial Brother Zhao and Martial Brother Gongliang were right. Your Highness the Saint is the true one!

His choice to join the Bai Sect was indeed a wise one.

There are many things he can’t do, but there are many things he can.

This world is as such—no one can carry all burdens. He simply needs to excel at what he can.

Bai Lian bade Fang Yan farewell and, along with the jade rabbit, made her way to the Wushan Holy Palace.

As she had anticipated, the Holy Palace was unable to answer the jade rabbit’s questions.

She then took the jade rabbit to Tonglu Mountain.

The outcome was the same.

Bai Lian suspected that the jade rabbit, after experiencing so many disappointments, might become disheartened. Thus, she thought of several ways to help lift the rabbit’s spirits.

Who would have guessed the jade rabbit acted indifferently?

Unable to break through to the Soul Changing Stage?

Is that really such a big deal?

Bai Lian started to wonder if the jade rabbit truly had forgotten that day’s events.

After much thought, Bai Lian decided to bring the jade rabbit to the Starry Sea once more.

Their destination: a place known for being closest to the stars.

Xingluo Fortress!

That’s right. The place where the eldest princess and fourth Martial Sister train in the game.

Xingluo Fortress, situated atop the Heavenly Pillar, is far from the sea.

The air there is thin, and the temperatures drop sharply. On a clear night, one could almost touch the moon.

When Bai Lian and the jade rabbit arrived, it was indeed perfect timing.

Without casting any spells, they could immediately see the vast starry sky, untouched by any impurities.

At the mountain summit, Bai Lian, holding the jade rabbit, boarded the Cloud Chasing Boat.

The boat soared into the sky.

It traveled through the starry sea, with the two of them aboard.

It soared, and soon the boat appeared as a small island, with a laurel tree standing at its center.

“Haw?”

The jade rabbit, nestled in Bai Lian’s arms, opened her eyes wide.

She quickly pointed at the laurel tree.

She remembered this scene, from when Bai Lian had first brought her to Flying Fog.

Did I make a mistake?

Bai Lian didn’t notice anything unusual in the jade rabbit’s expression.

After a moment, she laughed.

Silly.

Why should she worry about this? All she needs to do is keep the jade rabbit close by her side.

Bai Lian stretched out on the ground, saying, “Tomorrow, we’ll return to the Duxian Sect. Let’s rest here tonight.”

The jade rabbit happily agreed.

This is exactly what she wanted. Bai Lian truly understands her!

The jade rabbit sprawled beside Bai Lian, limbs stretched out.

She rarely did this; she was a rabbit, after all, preferring to keep her rear end raised and lying down.

At that moment, she felt a sudden chill.

“Haw?”

The jade rabbit swiftly turned, her eyes locking with Bai Lian’s.

She then saw Bai Lian gently take her paw into her hand.

Perfect.

The jade rabbit began scratching Bai Lian’s palm with her claws, causing Bai Lian to burst into laughter.

Ah.

The jade rabbit froze, feeling the warmth of Bai Lian’s touch, her gaze fixed on the clear stars above.

For some reason, Bai Lian seemed to be growing more and more like someone full of warmth.

Under the same night sky, Bai Lian and the jade rabbit gazed at the identical constellation.

The events of these past days felt like a dream.

She had broken through that “red line” first!

That feeling…

It truly made her want to embrace the world and treasure everything she had right now.

“Thus, I will certainly live well, and no one can take away what I have today!”

The starlight lit up the hand Bai Lian held with the jade rabbit.
