Chapter 4 Part 1: The Appearance of Yaoguang Star Lord at Last (1)
Bai Lian departed before noon.
However, just before leaving, she received unexpected news: Martial Sister Tong Yao had returned from her trip.
It had been nearly ten days since Martial Sister Tong Yao had left. Bai Lian had anticipated that if she didn’t return soon, Master Qin would start getting restless.
As Bai Lian had guessed, Martial Sister Tong Yao returned with Martial Sister Lu.
Martial Sister Lu had made up her mind not to return to the Duxian Sect.
She spoke to her family, explaining her decision:
“I’ve committed a grave mistake. Although Elder Martial Sister Bai Lian has decided not to pursue it further, I can no longer face her or Elder Martial Sister Tong. I have betrayed their trust.”
Bai Lian had already anticipated that Martial Sister Lu would say something like this, which was why, when she left, she had decided against trying to convince her otherwise.
She respected everyone’s decisions, even if that person happened to be her enemy.
Furthermore, thanks to Dao Xingyuan’s help, Martial Sister Lu’s father had overcome his injuries and even managed to break through to the Transcendency Stage with his remarkable efforts.
With her father in charge, the Lu family had managed to secure their place among the top-tier forces in the Sand Region.
Bai Lian was confident that even if Martial Sister Lu didn’t return to the Duxian Sect, her future cultivation path would remain unaffected.
In this case, it seemed better to allow her to follow her heart.
Martial Sister Lu had also come to the same conclusion. She apologized repeatedly and, despite Martial Sister Tong Yao’s insistence, refused to return.
But the situation took an unexpected turn.
Martial Sister Tong Yao, always headstrong and often unreasonable, was determined not to let this go.
“I am willing, even if it costs a fortune,” she had said.
Years ago, in order to praise her idol, Elder Martial Sister Bai Lian, she hadn’t hesitated to spread rumors.
Did Martial Sister Lu think she could reject her now?
Not a chance.
If kindness didn’t work, Martial Sister Tong Yao would resort to force.
Despite her small size, Tong Yao was no ordinary person. Her strength far exceeded that of the average cultivator.
Without a word, she grabbed Martial Sister Lu and headed out.
Initially, the Lu family members tried to stop them, but Martial Sister Tong Yao easily overpowered them. She quickly set up a magic circle using her own power and immobilized all the Lu family’s cultivators.
Martial Sister Lu’s father had no choice but to intervene.
He didn’t dare provoke the Duxian Sect, but he could tell that Martial Sister Tong Yao meant no harm. Otherwise, the magic circle would have caused far more damage.
Martial Sister Tong Yao, who usually came across as frivolous, now displayed an unusual demeanor.
When faced with Lu Wantong’s father, a man with a much stronger cultivation base, she neither aggressively confronted him nor meekly submitted.
“My master instructed me to guide Martial Sister Lu in her practice. However, she has been slacking off and running away. I must bring her back to face punishment!”
“What punishment is that?”
“Just… lock her up in her room for a month!”
At this point, Martial Sister Tong Yao seemed so excited that her purple pigtails appeared to stiffen.
In the past, it was she who had been punished by confinement, but now it was her turn to confine her Martial Sister.
This dispelled any remaining doubts in Lu Wantong’s father’s mind.
He stopped trying to block her and, with a deep bow, gave his respect to Martial Sister Tong Yao.
From the bottom of his heart, he was grateful.
The Duxian Sect was indeed a rising star in the world, and Bai Lian, the Natural Saint of Qiongming Peak, was renowned far and wide.
Who would have expected this of Qingyu Peak’s Elder Martial Sister? She was not only reliable but also exceedingly competent!
“With disciples like these, how could the Duxian Sect not thrive?”
And so, the “reliable” Elder Martial Sister Tong Yao returned with Lu Wantong in tow.
During their journey back to the Duxian Sect, Lu Wantong attempted to escape, but was easily caught by Tong Yao, a master at escaping herself.
“Think you can fight me? Laughable.”
Tong Yao’s martial skills were the result of ten years of practice, constantly sparring with her master.
“You can leave if you want, but first, you need to repay what you owe. Humph!”
Lu Wantong, whose clothes were in disarray, shrank into a corner of the cabin, fearing that Tong Yao’s wicked grin might mean trouble.
Realizing her clothes were torn and her cultivation sealed, Lu Wantong gave up on her escape plan.
Bai Lian observed Master Qin, who was recounting the events with a straight face.
She wasn’t cold, but unsure of what expression to make.
Especially as Master Qin sighed and said, “It’s all thanks to you, who taught her so well!”
Was that an indirect insult?
Bai Lian wanted to ask Master Qin if she had taught Tong Yao how to play prison games or how to strip her Martial Sister’s clothes off, but she refrained.
She decided to change the topic. “Why haven’t I seen Martial Sister Tong Yao and Martial Sister Lu?”
Master Qin replied, “As soon as Lu Wantong returned, Tong Yao sent her to the confinement room and then went into closed-door training herself.”
Master Qin continued, explaining that on her way to Xiwu City, Martial Sister Tong Yao had stumbled upon the ruins of an ancient sect filled with ghosts that hadn’t been cleansed by the Tide of Resentment.
For a normal cultivator at the Golden Core Stage, this would have been a hopeless situation.
But Martial Sister Tong Yao was no ordinary cultivator—she carried the Nether Bloodline and the Netherworld Seal.
With just one “brick,” she killed the master of the sect.
The remaining ghosts fled, but their efforts only trapped them, as the ruins’ magic circles had been designed to imprison intruders.
Martial Sister Tong Yao calmly smashed the remaining ghosts to death, and with the help of the Netherworld Seal, absorbed their power, causing her own strength to surge dramatically.
Bai Lian was stunned.
“Is this the protagonist’s lucky fortune in a fantasy novel?”
No wonder Martial Sister Tong Yao could easily subdue the entire Lu family with her Golden Core cultivation.
It seemed that the “Lord of the Hades Hall” had returned.
Still, Bai Lian couldn’t help but wonder: was this really the best way to get stronger?
Though, considering her own path, there were many ways to gain strength—no one had to sacrifice their family members.
Bai Lian didn’t want to see Martial Sister Tong Yao become an executioner.
Once innocence was lost, it was difficult to recover. She would rather see Tong Yao continue her foolhardy ways than see her lose her humanity.
If Tong Yao were here now, Bai Lian would have wrapped her in a warm hug.
Master Qin sighed again. “Before heading to the Sand Region, Tong Yao told me that Lu Wantong has exceptional talent and is the future of Qingyu Peak. She wanted to bring Wantong back. I think, in a decade or two, I’ll be able to pass Qingyu Peak on to her.”
Bai Lian nodded quietly, her thoughts complicated.
It seemed that overnight, everyone had grown up, except for the fifth Martial Sister, who still felt like a child.
But even if things couldn’t be better right now, Bai Lian knew that life always changed.
Like the flowing water before the door, everything was in constant motion.
She had tried her best to steer the ship, but the direction wasn’t solely up to her. Winds and waves could alter the course in ways no one could predict.
“I hope everything goes smoothly,” Bai Lian murmured.
As she picked up the jade rabbit, she placed it gently on her shoulder instead of holding it close to her chest.
[Bai Lian’s revenge mode has been activated.]
Nearby, the fifth Martial Sister reached out, grabbing the jade rabbit’s ears. “Elder Martial Sister Jade Rabbit, you must grow up quickly!”
“Haw.”
The jade rabbit nodded with a sigh of frustration.
The others didn’t look too friendly, but the jade rabbit didn’t care.
Humph!
Her ears stiffened. As Princess Yao Ye of the Yaoguang Rabbit clan, she swore she would break through the barrier between Bai Lian and the rest faster than any of them!
Under the scorching midday sun, Bai Lian and the jade rabbit leapt into the clouds and disappeared without a trace.
It was nearly August.
An Lan’s birthday was on August 17th, and with less than twenty days to go, Bai Lian’s heart had become much more peaceful than last year.
She had already celebrated her master’s birthday and spent ten birthdays with her in the Past World. Those plain yet beautiful times were enough for a lifetime of memories.
Even if she couldn’t catch up with An Lan this time, there was little to regret.
Now, however, was not the time to indulge in sweet dreams.
With Yue Wuyang, Jiang Jing, Dao Xingyuan, and others showing up one after another, Bai Lian couldn’t shake the feeling that greater calamities were ahead.
She made her way to the Flying Fog again, no longer needing to borrow a flying boat from the Guangtong Sect.
