Chapter 15 Part 2: Bai Lian Is Upright! (2)
Bai Lian suddenly knelt down, saying,
“Master, your socks are wet. Let me handle that for you…”
Without hesitation, she reached out and grabbed her master’s right foot.
“?
“?**”
Feeling the cold and softness in her hand, An Lan was momentarily stunned, but so was Bai Lian.
[What are you doing, traitor?]
[Done for, how did I get caught up in this, touching my master’s feet?]
Bai Lian was in a complete panic.
Just thinking about it is one thing, but actually doing it is another!
She had momentarily diverted her master’s attention, but the consequences could be severe if her master chose to act harshly. An Lan could easily retaliate and punish her.
After a brief moment of confusion, An Lan attempted to retract her foot, but at that instant, voices called out from nearby.
“Martial Brother, it’s time for the shift change.”
“I’ll patrol this area one more time.”
Someone was approaching!
This was the Zhuyan Peak pass, where several disciples of Zhuyan Peak were stationed beneath the stone gate.
An Lan quickly tried to pull her foot away, but her movement wasn’t strong enough. Instead, she found herself struggling against the friction, unable to pull her foot free.
Something’s wrong.
Why didn’t I feel this before?
“Don’t move!” An Lan urgently warned.
I’m not moving!
Bai Lian almost spoke, but An Lan silenced her with,
“Not a sound!”
If anyone sees this, I’ll strangle you myself…
Sighing in resignation, An Lan used a spell to conceal them both, including Bai Lian.
But she was afraid to move an inch.
The fear of accidentally breaking the spell and collapsing from exhaustion overwhelmed her.
Luckily, Bai Lian’s grip was strong. She pressed her foot down just slightly and found stability in Bai Lian’s palm.
But this situation couldn’t go on forever.
When Bai Lian’s strength ran out, she would lose balance.
What could she do?
An Lan felt as though her entire body was burning.
She had never faced such a dilemma before. In the past, she could have easily punished anyone who angered her with a mere flick of her hand, but now, she could barely think straight.
Her body grew weaker, and each tremor intensified.
What is taking those people so long to leave?
Why haven’t they gone yet?
They were now close.
Have they already noticed us?
She felt as if everything she had worked for would be lost forever.
If the Duxian Sect is doomed, let’s bury Bai Lian with it!
Bai Lian finally snapped out of it.
In this situation, throwing her master’s foot away would surely give her away, revealing her unease.
This is absurd.
I, Bai Lian, have principles! “Righteous” is practically etched across my forehead! How could I have done something as disrespectful as asking my master, “Master, may I touch your feet?”
The reason she had taken her master’s foot was because she noticed her socks were wet, and she simply wanted to dry them.
Yes, that’s it.
That’s the explanation!
The warmth radiating from Bai Lian’s palm caused An Lan to shudder again.
But this wasn’t going to last long, and within a few moments, Bai Lian had dried An Lan’s socks.
After double-checking everything was in order, she gently placed her master’s feet back into the dried wooden clogs.
Once the patrolling disciples had moved on, Bai Lian stood up.
With a smile, she said,
“Master, it’s all set.”
It’s not okay at all!
Though her right foot was back on the ground, An Lan felt like she was crumbling.
It was as if her body had turned to jelly, and she couldn’t summon any strength.
She glared at Bai Lian, trying to discern her true intentions.
But there was nothing to find.
It seemed as though Bai Lian was simply drying her socks, but that felt inappropriate, considering the vast difference in their status.
How could a disciple touch her master’s feet?
An Lan’s anger was building, and a surge of indignation flooded her.
She shot Bai Lian a sharp glare and commanded,
“This won’t happen again!”
Bai Lian nodded quickly.
I’ll definitely do it again.
Da da da.
An Lan walked past Bai Lian with a dignified pace.
Originally, she had planned to rescue Si Yunshang with Bai Lian, but those thoughts had now evaporated.
Why go? I can barely stand.
If she moved too fast, she would be hunched over, and people might think Bai Lian had done something to her backside.
I must maintain my dignity!
With that, she returned to the mountain cave, walking with as much grace as she could muster.
Bai Lian watched her master walk away.
As she turned to leave, a voice floated from behind her.
“You should come to me first if you need help.”
“…”
There was a hint of something in the tone, something akin to the tartness of an unripe apple.
Bai Lian’s lips parted slightly.
Is my master…jealous?
“Okay.”
She nodded, feeling a gentle warmth in her chest that quickly vanished, swept away by the storm, leaving only a lingering sense of emotion that would stay with her for a long time.
Even someone as cold as my master has a soft side.
Bai Lian turned away, moving in the opposite direction from An Lan.
The autumn night was heavy, and so was the autumn rain.
Bai Lian’s emotions were complex.
She stood at a crossroads, poised to take a bold step, yet knowing that doing so would close off everything else around her.
As a person driven by ambition, she yearned to strive further, to reach new heights.
As she passed the gates of the Duxian Sect, a voice echoed in her mind—
[Don’t go, ahead is a karma field!]
The “karma field” was the site of ancient battles between divine beings and demons.
But now, in this new age, its meaning had evolved.
No matter what awaited her, Bai Lian, with her insatiable drive for success, would not hesitate.
She would forge a bright future for all!
“Let’s go.”
She said to Nishang, who had been waiting.
Nishang said nothing, silently leading the way.
She noticed something different in Bai Lian.
The Bai Lian before was serious, but now, there was a sense of ease.
This newfound calmness seemed to soothe Nishang’s own anxious heart.
From what Sister Si had told her, Bai Lian was the strongest, the best, the one who would put an end to this farce.
Their destination was the Xili Mountain, home to the Lingxu Sect.
Located in the northwest corner of the East Divine Land, Xili Mountain is part of the vast Ten Thousand Mountains.
It was a dangerous place, known for its poisonous miasma and violent beasts, only accessible to cultivators.
Many years ago, before the conflict between the Righteous and Demonic Paths, a major battle had been fought there. A righteous cultivator had shattered the Nine Heavens, splitting Xili Mountain and leaving behind the famed Sword Valley.
“Sister Si Yunshang was last seen here three days ago.”
Nishang pointed to a pond nestled in the forest.
The water was clear enough to see the bottom, with blue stones around its edge. It was rumored that Si Yunshang had washed her feet there before disappearing.
Bai Lian frowned slightly.
Three days wasn’t long for a cultivator.
But for Si Yunshang, it could be quite significant.
Still, with the Lingxu Sect, Niguang Mountain, and the Pavilion of Mountain and Sea still searching, Si Yunshang should be safe—at least for now.
Bai Lian spoke.
“You can return to Niguang Mountain. If I hear anything, I’ll let you know.”
“Then I’ll leave it to you, White Emperor Bai Lian.” Nishang bowed respectfully.
Her presence would only bring trouble if she stayed.
Once Nishang was gone, Bai Lian stood by the pond, trying to catch a trace of Si Yunshang’s scent, but it proved fruitless.
However, she still had other options.
After fifteen minutes of waiting, Bai Lian heard voices approaching.
“Still no leads?”
“She was a master at hiding her presence—two thousand years of experience.”
A two-thousand-year-old demon? Is that Si Yunshang they’re talking about?
How dare they call her old!
Seeing there were only a few people nearby, Bai Lian rushed forward without hesitation.
Die!
With the Dirt Free Sword in hand, the two demon disciples whose cultivation she had obliterated lay before her, and the others had been wiped out without a trace.
Pap.
Bai Lian placed a foot on one of the fallen disciples’ faces and began searching his soul.
