Chapter 14 Part 2: Bai Lian, “That’s My Wife!” (2)
On the Qiongming Peak, the autumn rain fell gently, its soft rhythm adding to the serenity of the moment.
Bai Lian sat languidly at her dressing table, stretching her body with a contented sigh.
Her gaze drifted outside the window, where her eyes caught sight of a crooked-necked tree.
It was an ordinary withered tree, one that, left unattended, would surely wither away in just a few years.
However, over the past few days, Bai Lian noticed something unusual – a trace of rich spirit Qi emanating from the tree.
Great.
From the looks of it, in a few more years, this tree could transform into a spiritual tree. And if fortune favors it, it might even become the Crooked-necked Tree Patriarch of Qiongming Peak.
“I deserve it!” Bai Lian rubbed her chest gently, a smug satisfaction in her tone.
The tree had been standing there, basking in her Tao Halo, drawing on its benefits.
After the excitement had passed, her attention shifted to other matters.
Spreading a white piece of paper across the dressing table, she held a spirit pen in her mouth.
Instead of writing, she gently rubbed her feet with her hands.
As someone who had developed a strong foot fetish, Bai Lian reveled in the beauty of her feet, always ensuring to take care of them.
A wave of laziness swept over her, and she began to sift through the books that filled her mind.
These days, her mind was constantly working on multiple threads. She had been helping her Martial Sisters stabilize their cultivation bases while also sending Tong Yao on missions under the guise of character training. In reality, Tong Yao was tasked with gathering intel on the secret realms of this world.
Bai Lian was eager to uncover the mysteries hidden in these realms, as well as the Ancient Starry Sky Road. The need for urgency stemmed from the sense of impending danger she felt.
Yue Wuyang.
At Bai Lian’s instigation, Yue Wuyang had focused her efforts on exploring these secret realms.
Bai Lian had been quite proud of herself.
[Poor Yue Wuyang, who had been toyed with by White Emperor Bai Lian, all for show.]
Yue Wuyang would never find her master if she continued in this direction.
But now, Bai Lian realized the joke was on her.
Yes, Yue Wuyang couldn’t find her master, but if she discovered the secrets of this world and the Ancient Starry Sky Road, it would be too late for them.
When Yue Wuyang contacted her again, Bai Lian had to come up with elaborate strategies to deceive her into visiting the already explored secret realms.
The more people tread those paths, the fewer secrets remained. This decreased the chances of Yue Wuyang uncovering anything new.
Fortunately, Yue Wuyang trusted her immensely, so without hesitation, she took Bai Lian’s suggestion.
Bai Lian wasn’t about to waste this hard-won opportunity. She poured over the books that Tong Yao had collected, marking any areas that seemed suspicious.
She needed to wait for the second and third Martial Sisters to stabilize their Nascent Soul Stage cultivation, and for the fourth Martial Sister to firmly secure her position in the Soul Changing Stage. Only then would she venture out to explore.
As for the fifth Martial Sister, Bai Lian had originally planned to take over her training, but her master—likely out of sheer boredom—snatched both the fifth Martial Sister and the jade rabbit away.
Upon seeing the jade rabbit’s “tormented” state, Bai Lian felt an overwhelming sense of guilt.
If the master found out about the dream that the jade rabbit had shared with Bai Lian, things would get even worse. The jade rabbit might end up as a stewed, braised, or spicy dish.
What a sin.
Bai Lian hastily scribbled down some place names on the paper, including locations tied to catastrophic events that would occur later on.
Just as she pondered where to start her exploration, a melodic chirp interrupted her thoughts.
“?!”
Bai Lian lowered her foot and extended her hand out the window.
At that moment, a mechanical bird, used by the mountain patrol disciples for message delivery, landed in her palm.
She immediately recognized it—this tool was exclusive to the Duxian sect’s mountain patrol disciples.
Upon probing her Divine Sense, she discovered that someone was looking for her near the mountain gate.
According to the mountain patrolling disciple, a young woman carrying a black long spear had arrived. Her long hair flowed like burning flames, and her proud demeanor inspired immediate respect.
When the disciple asked for the woman’s name, she refused to reveal it, simply stating that she had come to find White Emperor Bai Lian.
“Nishang!” Bai Lian suddenly recalled.
This was the Demon Woman who considered Si Yunshang as both master and mother, someone with a penchant for violent tendencies.
No wonder she had refused to disclose her identity.
While Bai Lian had never personally wronged the righteous, her sect certainly had. How could the rising Duxian sect allow a Demon Woman to linger near its gates without taking action?
Bai Lian hastily gathered the papers and pens on the table, slipped her feet into wooden clogs, and hurried outside with a clatter.
She decided to meet Nishang first.
A few seconds later, Bai Lian arrived at the sect gate.
After exchanging greetings with her younger martial siblings, she led the visibly anxious Nishang outside, away from prying eyes.
Underneath a lush green tree, without waiting for Bai Lian to ask, Nishang spoke urgently.
She grabbed Bai Lian’s shoulder, released it, and nervously said, “Please, White Emperor Bai Lian, rescue Sister Si Yunshang. She’s in great danger now, and if you don’t save her, she’ll be doomed.”
“?!”
Bai Lian was taken aback, her expression turning serious.
“Calm down for a moment, and tell me what exactly happened.”
Nishang’s chest rose and fell with each breath, as she struggled to calm herself.
“The former sect leader of Lingxu sect has come back to life. I don’t know what happened, but he fought with Sister Si Yunshang…”
In Nishang’s recounting, the battle nearly obliterated the Lingxu sect.
Si Yunshang had initially gained the upper hand and almost killed Gu Yunzhi, but in the end, she was defeated and forced to flee, wounded.
The Lingxu sect, along with other demon sects, began searching for Si Yunshang, determined to completely annihilate her. Nishang’s sect, Niguang Mountain, had also been alerted.
Unable to seek help from her sect or contact Si Yunshang, Nishang had set out on her own, ultimately arriving at Bai Lian’s door in desperation, seeking her aid.
A new task had emerged:
[Task 1: Rescue Si Yunshang (Reward: Elixir of the Celestial Deity)]
[Task 2: Indifferent, drive Nishang away (Reward: +4 Focus)]
[Task 3: Kill Nishang and pretend nothing happened (Reward: Hard Skill +2)]
The Elixir of the Celestial Deity was no small thing—it could enhance the user’s spirit Qi and deepen their understanding of the laws of heaven and earth. It was a medicinal pill that rivaled even the finest Spirit Tools.
Bai Lian nodded.
If she didn’t intervene, Si Yunshang would almost certainly perish.
But even if she tried to save Si Yunshang, there was a high chance they might both die together.
Nevertheless…
Bai Lian couldn’t stand by and do nothing. After all, Si Yunshang was going to be her wife!
“Please wait here for a moment. I need to prepare something.”
“Hmm.”
Nishang gritted her teeth in agreement.
Bai Lian quickly left to borrow some treasures from Yan Yue and retrieve Divine Spiritual Herbs from her master.
But when she returned to her room, she found herself surrounded.
Her second and third Martial Sisters stood in front of her.
By the window were the jade rabbit and the Fourth Martial Sister.
Watching from the doorway were the fifth Martial Sister and Tong Yao.
Hmm?
Why was her master here too?
Bai Lian was momentarily stunned, then heard her second Martial Sister speak in a gentle voice, “Elder Martial Sister, who was the red-haired woman who came to see you earlier?”
Hum?
Even though Bai Lian was slow to realize, she could sense something was wrong. The look in their eyes was enough to send a chill down her spine, and the strange atmosphere hung in the air like a storm waiting to break.
Who, who spread this news to her Martial Sisters?
Bai Lian’s forehead broke out in cold sweat.
And then, the system task appeared once more:
[Task 1: Why should I explain my actions to you? (Reward: the best-grade Spirit Tool – Life-saving Lamp)]
[Task 2: Claim that it was an old friend visiting (Reward: Eight Treasures Pill)]
[Task 3: Tell them the truth (Reward: Soft Skill +9)]
[Task 4: Justify your desire to save Si Yunshang by citing her past kindness (Reward: Light Skill +6)]
Bai Lian muttered to herself, “…”
Too bad!
The safest task rewarded only 6 points of Light Skill!
