Chapter 2: I’m Worrying About You (3)
She had made this kind of “mistake” several times already.
She didn’t truly have a prophetic ability. When the plot deviated from the game plan and the system didn’t give any warnings, she was no different from a little white rabbit compared to those who were genuinely wise and calculating.
The cave fell silent once again.
The only sound was the ticking of dripping water.
Suddenly, as if responding to Bai Lian’s wish, the system task popped up.
[Task 1: Explain it half-heartedly (Reward: Hard Skill +2)]
[Task 2: Remain silent (Reward: Soft Skill +1)]
Even if she chose to explain it half-heartedly, would the risk truly be so low?
Bai Lian was momentarily dazed.
She thought back to the past.
If she had dared to choose Task 1 around this time last year, she would undoubtedly have been punished severely.
These three years felt like thirty years when she thought about them carefully.
Despite everything, Bai Lian chose Task 2.
She no longer wanted to deceive her master.
Silently, she stared at An Lan.
After a while, An Lan tucked her hands into her sleeves.
When she withdrew them, a faint violet droplet glinted in her palm.
“The Teardrop of the Moon Sea.”
“When you can’t win, just use it—it might bring you luck.”
An Lan reached out and grabbed Bai Lian’s hand.
She turned Bai Lian’s palm over and placed the Teardrop of the Moon Sea in it.
Then, like a wife sending her husband on a journey, she carefully folded Bai Lian’s fingers over the droplet, ensuring it was secure.
She only let go when Bai Lian was holding the Teardrop firmly.
“Master…”
Bai Lian’s voice quivered softly.
An Lan didn’t answer.
Instead, she placed her hand back in her sleeve and pulled out a copper lamp holder.
“Release your Divine Sense.”
An Lan’s expression was serious.
Bai Lian did as she was told, but as soon as her Divine Sense entered the lamp stand, she felt a sharp prick.
“OK.”
Bai Lian watched as the copper lamp lit up.
A Soul Lamp?
An Lan said, “It still feels a bit rushed for you to return tomorrow morning. Why don’t you make it the day after instead? That extra day should give you enough time for the journey, right?”
After hesitating for a moment, Bai Lian nodded.
“That’s enough.”
“Let’s make the most of our time, then.”
“Hmm.”
Bai Lian stood up.
By dawn tomorrow, there would be less than two days left.
Thanks to the Heavenly Surveillance Talismans, she had saved a lot of time on her journey. The next task was to head directly to the Frosted Bronze Valley.
If the risk proved too great, she would simply return.
She kept walking until she reached the cave entrance, where she stopped.
In the lamplight, her silhouette appeared dark and shadowed.
At the very least, she shouldn’t just leave like this, right?
She turned around and said, “Sorry, Master.”
An Lan’s body swayed slightly as her ten fingers entwined together.
She pursed her lips.
“You don’t need to apologize to me.”
After speaking, and under Bai Lian’s expectant gaze, she suddenly added:
“I’m just… worrying about you.”
“!”
The words were brief, yet Bai Lian was left speechless.
If this were a game or an animated series, emotional background music would surely play at this moment!
Even so, Bai Lian felt like a spring breeze had swept through the cave.
The wind made no sound, but it warmed her like a stove in the middle of winter.
Her skirt fluttered slightly.
In that moment, Bai Lian, who had felt uneasy before, calmed down.
She hadn’t expected her master to say something like that!
It seemed that all her efforts had been worth it.
Perhaps that was the power surging within her.
Bai Lian lowered her head slightly and tucked a strand of hair from her temple behind her ear.
Her ethereal blue earlobes shimmered like a starry sky, and the bracelet on her hand glowed like a flowing river.
“Because of this,” Bai Lian laughed softly, “I must apologize to you, Master, because I always make you worry.”
“…”
Bai Lian turned and walked out of the cave, step by step.
When her figure disappeared into the shadows, An Lan’s voice drifted out.
“It’s okay if you know.”
It’s okay… It’s okay…
But it wasn’t really okay.
An Lan sat cross-legged on the edge of the stone bed.
In front of her was Bai Lian’s Soul Lamp, glowing brightly. She could even detect a familiar scent.
Was it the scent of her fourth disciple?
It turned out Bai Lian had secretly signed a contract with her fourth disciple!
She was about to examine the lamp when sudden footsteps echoed from outside the cave.
Not Bai Lian.
“How did you get here?”
An Lan raised her head, calmly lowering her feet from the bed.
Yan Yue entered in a hurry.
“I just heard from Martial Brother Qin that Bai Lian is going to North Luzhou again?”
An Lan nodded. “That’s right.”
Yan Yue urgently asked, “Why didn’t you stop her?”
An Lan replied, “How could I stop her? Should I hold her in place?”
“…”
“She’s my disciple, not my puppet, and certainly not my slave. She has her own thoughts, and I can’t make her an echo of myself. The only thing I can do is support her when she makes a choice.”
Yan Yue gritted her teeth. “Then why don’t you ever say these words to her directly?”
An Lan shot her a glance. “Don’t worry!”
The powerful aura in her gaze stunned Yan Yue into silence.
“…”
An Lan stood up and said, “I’m going out for a walk.”
“…”
Yan Yue could only watch her leave.
—
An Lan’s mood was far from good.
Recently, people from the Immortal World had been appearing frequently, preventing her from recklessly using her true strength outside as she used to.
If she were caught, it wouldn’t just bring trouble to her but to everyone connected to her.
With a sigh, she found herself in Bai Lian’s room.
The room was empty, devoid of Bai Lian’s presence.
Moonlight streamed through the window, illuminating the bookshelf near the corner.
She casually picked up a book, and a piece of paper tucked between the pages fell out.
She bent down and picked it up.
Initially, she didn’t intend to read it, but the word “shifu” caught her eye.
“?”
She unfolded the paper.
With just one glance, her face turned red with embarrassment.
“What the heck!”
In her hand was the prelude to a story—a love story between a master and her disciple!
Outraged, she quickly conjured a small flame and set the paper alight. Within moments, it burned to ash.
“How could there be such an improper master and disciple in this world?”
She muttered to herself in a low voice, full of disdain.
The thoughts of Bai Lian…
Sure enough, there was a problem!
Was Bai Lian starting to have these thoughts because she was growing older?
This was unacceptable.
As a cultivator, how could she fail to endure loneliness?
When Bai Lian returned, An Lan resolved to give her a proper lecture!
—
Outside the Duxian Sect.
On a vast plain, Bai Lian took out a Heavenly Surveillance Talisman.
“Let’s go.”
She crushed the talisman, and a white light engulfed her.
Truthfully, she longed for a moment of rest.
But until she defeated her master’s arch-enemy, she had no choice but to fight tirelessly.
“Wait for me to come back.”
