Chapter 2: I’m Worrying About You (1)
Bai Lian received the message during noon.
Before that…
She was lying on the bed, her left hand propping up her cheek, her chest flattened against the mattress, and her two white and tender legs bent diagonally upwards.
In her line of sight was the short story about two girls’ love that she had spent the afternoon writing.
Don’t leave today’s work for tomorrow.
With this thought in mind, Bai Lian decided to make one last modification to the short story before going to bed.
“Hey hey…” Bai Lian wiggled her exposed toes in the air. She bit the pen she used to make modifications.
Unfortunately, her ideas never came to fruition.
A private message from Jue Yunzi made her snap awake.
“Has the Hades Hall sunk?”
Pa.
Very soon, Bai Lian sat straight up.
With a light thud, she sat firmly on the mattress, pressing out an indentation.
“This question…”
The stars were twinkling in Bai Lian’s eyes.
She remembered!
In The Battle of the Gods, a major event would occur later on.
This event usually took two different paths, depending on whether Master Qin survived the incident when Mu Yisheng attacked the Duxian Sect.
If Master Qin was safe and sound, Tong Yao would stay in the Duxian Sect with peace of mind.
If that were the case, the sinking of the Hades Hall would become a mysterious event, with no one knowing anything about it.
Players would only hear fragments of conversations when wandering around town.
But if Master Qin were dead…
No matter what Elder Martial Sister Bai Lian did, once the Lord of the Hades Hall came looking for her, Tong Yao would have to leave and set out on the path of becoming the “Demon King.”
This road was anything but smooth.
It was dark, deep, thorny, and full of pressure.
A slight misstep would knock someone down, leaving a trail of blood.
Tong Yao, who seemed foolish in the Duxian Sect, still managed to break through this path.
During this process, the biggest crisis she faced was an event called “Soul Return.”
This event began with the sinking of the Hades Hall and ended with the destruction of the Bronze Valley ruins.
Since then, Tong Yao, who had come out from the Bronze Valley, inherited everything from the Hades Hall.
She became cold and heartless, using unparalleled strength to defeat the Hades Hall’s greatest rival, the Wuheng Snow Valley, and drove them southward out of the abandoned valley.
She restored the glory of the Hades Hall and pushed its prestige to a level comparable to that of the former Taixuan Taoist Sect.
“That was sixteen years later in the game.”
Bai Lian still bit the pen in her teeth.
She stared intently at the words she had written on the paper.
Due to her interference, the game’s plot had been torn to pieces.
Some things had disappeared.
Some things had happened ahead of schedule.
“This time… should it be related to my previous journey to the Snow Sea?”
Bai Lian wasn’t very sure.
Maybe.
In the end, it was her meddling in the affairs of the Hades Hall and the Wuheng Snow Valley that led things down a completely different path.
This was a new road, one never imagined!
Bai Lian knew that this was not something the Duxian Sect could handle.
Even if Jue Yunzi and the Blood Tree Patriarch joined forces, they couldn’t deal with it—not to mention Master Qin, who was only at the Transcendency Stage.
“Should I advise them not to go?”
It seemed like she couldn’t find a reason.
She couldn’t explain why she knew that place was dangerous.
And…
To outsiders, she was a reincarnated Immortal Emperor, and there were few people in the world who could be more powerful than her.
“I have already advised Younger Martial Brother Qin, but he looks gentle, actually quite stubborn.”
Bai Lian nodded gently as she looked at the message sent by the sect leader.
She knew.
The previous generation of people in the Duxian Sect was mostly characterized by this virtue.
After all, they had a master named Yan Xiyi.
Even An Lan had been influenced by Yan Xiyi’s character, let alone others.
“I need to go talk to them.”
Bai Lian climbed out of bed.
She changed into a short and loose casual outfit.
Then, she stood quietly in front of the Future Mirror, which was without light.
“Why can’t you predict my future?”
Bai Lian muttered to herself.
On normal days, this Future Mirror always praised her, but this time, it gave no response.
She lowered her head and looked at her own chest.
She wanted to see the death words on her body, but instead, she saw two white snow-capped peaks.
She knew what kind of person she should be through the game.
Once…
Bai Lian believed she was an extraordinary person, destined to become the protagonist.
Later…
She found that she was just a discarded woman, kicked around by the protagonists, with no good qualities except being very bad.
So, she thought she might as well run away.
But for all kinds of reasons, she could never escape.
Now, looking back, even without the system, she didn’t seem so ordinary.
“Sigh.”
Bai Lian fanned out the candle flame and pushed open the door, stretching her shadow into a long moonlit night.
She thought.
There are always many roads in this world that seem dangerous, but there are still reasons why we must take them.
Affection, love, friendship, dreams, responsibility…
Or guilt.
When Bai Lian arrived at Qingyu Peak, Master Qin was packing up.
Because the road ahead was hazy, it wasn’t possible to recklessly rush through.
Bai Lian went alone to find Tong Yao, who was huddled in the corner of her room.
Even though she entered, Tong Yao didn’t notice.
The young girl leaned against the wall, her long ponytail pressed down beneath her butt.
Bai Lian stepped forward, picked her up, and after tidying her hair, set her down again.
“Elder Martial Sister Bai Lian…”
Tong Yao looked up.
Her eyes were slightly red, and her tears were glistening.
Bai Lian found that, for some reason, none of the people around her seemed truly happy.
Surely this can’t be my problem, right?
She smiled and shook her head.
There was no such possibility.
She was a Natural Saint who brought hope and courage to people, not an omen for this world!
Bai Lian gently caressed Tong Yao’s head.
She spoke in a voice as gentle as a mother’s, “It’s getting dark. Wait here for me to come back.”
“I…”
Tong Yao opened her mouth.
Bai Lian smiled and said, “I’m Bai Lian, believe me!”
Yes.
Because she was Elder Martial Sister Bai Lian, Tong Yao should trust her.
Why am I so weak?
Tong Yao clenched her fist.
She always played the part of a damsel in distress, never once relying on her own strength to solve any of her problems.
Before, it was Master Qin protecting her. Now, both Master Qin and Elder Martial Sister Bai Lian were protecting her.
If she had the power, would everything be different?
She took out the Netherworld Seal, which was emitting a gentle purplish light.
The purple light blended both her and Bai Lian into it.
“Elder Martial Sister Bai Lian, this is something my dad specially sent to me before he had the accident. I think it must be something really important.”
“You just keep it then,” said Bai Lian.
Tong Yao shook her head, “I think it would be more useful if it were left in Elder Martial Sister Bai Lian’s hands.”
She stuffed the Netherworld Seal directly into Bai Lian’s bosom.
Alright.
Bai Lian pressed the seal into her chest and placed it in the middle of her chest.
She smiled, “Go to bed early, who knows, you might see me again tomorrow morning.”
“Hmm.”
Tong Yao wiped away her tears.
She watched as Bai Lian walked away.
Sleep?
How could I possibly sleep!
