Chapter 20: Bai Lian, You Will Never Have to Be Alone! (2)
At that moment, a familiar voice suddenly came from behind her.
“Martial Sister Lu?”
“!”
Lu Wantong’s body stiffened.
It felt as though she was being held at gunpoint, with a long lance aimed straight at her heart.
She froze, her entire being rigid, as if even the slightest movement would pierce her through.
She couldn’t have been mistaken.
It was undoubtedly Bai Lian’s voice!
A chill surged up from her tailbone, threatening to break her down entirely.
Just moments ago, she had hoped to rely on Bai Lian to find her way out.
But now, she had been swallowed whole by the abyss named Bai Lian.
Cold.
Not just cold, but almost damp.
A prickling sensation crawled up Lu Wantong’s scalp.
It was over.
Bai Lian must already know about her and the leader’s plan for her appearance here.
How foolish she had been.
How could a lowly and vulgar person like her possibly deceive the wise and erudite Bai Lian?
There was no escape.
Her father would die, her family would die, and so would she…
There was no way out.
Dozens of seconds earlier…
Having just finished her last task of strolling around, Bai Lian was preparing to fly back to Qiongming Peak from the airspace above the Guangtong Sect.
She looked down and saw Lu Wantong, her fists clenched with excitement.
“It’s better to go down and say hello,” Bai Lian mused.
After all, Martial Sister Lu was Tong Yao’s most trusted subordinate, and she was receiving special training from the Jade Rabbit.
Bai Lian didn’t expect that, despite calling out to Lu Wantong twice, there was no response.
“…”
What’s going on?
Bai Lian blinked, then moved closer, standing behind Lu Wantong to see her smooth, creamy skin.
It was hard to deny that the backless uniform from Qingyu Peak was truly flattering.
If she could see it on her Martial Sisters…
Wait! What was she thinking?!
Now was not the time for such distractions.
Bai Lian circled around to the front of Lu Wantong.
“Martial Sister Lu, are you okay?”
She immediately noticed that Lu Wantong’s complexion was off.
Her face flushed, sweat dripped from her brow, and heavy panting escaped her lips.
Bai Lian quickly scanned Lu Wantong’s body, trying to assess the situation.
Was she ill? Was something wrong?
Before she could say anything further, Lu Wantong suddenly seemed to lose her strength and fell towards her.
“Hey!”
Bai Lian caught Lu Wantong’s hand swiftly.
“Martial Sister Lu, Martial Sister Lu…”
She called out in quick succession.
Lu Wantong managed to force a weak smile, her voice barely audible.
“Elder Martial Sister Bai Lian… No, White Emperor Bai Lian, I shouldn’t… I shouldn’t!”
The words confused Bai Lian.
She recalled their first meeting, where Martial Sister Lu had mentioned that her father was still waiting at home for the good news of her successful entry into the Duxian sect.
Could this mean… something had happened to her father?
Bai Lian asked softly, “Did something happen to your father?”
And indeed, something big had happened.
Kneeling on the ground, Lu Wantong’s face was twisted in sorrow as a bitter smile appeared.
She had tried to save her father, though her efforts only hastened his demise.
Such a filial daughter…
Ha ha ha…
Lu Wantong smiled foolishly, the laughter echoing in her mind as dozens of eyes locked on her.
Bai Lian remained unfazed, composed and calm despite the crowd surrounding them.
However, recognizing the potential negative impact this could have on Lu Wantong, she gently took her hand and flew them both into the clouds.
On the Cloud Chasing Boat…
Bai Lian pressed her index finger against Lu Wantong’s chest.
Lu Wantong’s body was cold, but the Qi Bai Lian injected into her was warm, soothing yet still uncomfortably intense.
The warmth jolted Lu Wantong awake.
Bai Lian spoke gently, “If you’re ready, you can tell me about your father’s situation. I promise, I won’t tell anyone else.”
Lu Wantong opened her mouth, her eyes flickering with emotion.
Despite the strained relationship between them, Bai Lian maintained a softness that felt like a gentle spring breeze.
She encouraged Lu Wantong to speak.
At this point, Lu Wantong had lost all hope for the future.
But… if Bai Lian softened, letting her father go, then perhaps she could still be considered a good daughter.
“My father was originally the head of a small cultivation family in the Sand Region.”
As she spoke, Lu Wantong recounted her past with sorrow.
In the remote Sand Region, even the most basic order was hard to maintain, and only strength could secure a place in life.
The Lu family, though small, wasn’t weak. They controlled a small patch of land and lived relatively prosperous lives.
But everything changed with the arrival of the Blood Sword Sect.
The Blood Sword Sect forced the neighboring families to pay tribute, and the Lu family was no exception, forced to become a vassal.
If that was all, it could have been borne.
But the Blood Sword Sect was a Demon Sect.
Could it really be called a Demon Sect if it didn’t wreak havoc?
The leader of the Blood Sword Sect regularly selected people from its vassals to serve as sacrificial blades.
“My father feared I might one day be chosen, so he tried to break through to the Nascent Soul stage and drive the Blood Sword Sect away.”
But sometimes, pushing too hard leads only to failure.
In his desperation, the head of the Lu family consumed a large number of medicinal pills.
At the critical moment, when his Gold Core was about to break and his Nascent Soul formed, the accumulated Dan-poison erupted within him.
The flood of energy tore through his body, leaving him unconscious. His eyes rolled back, and his body convulsed.
When the guards found him, it was already too late—he was disabled.
Not only was his cultivation shattered, but his very soul was on the brink of destruction.
Even with the medicinal pills from the Lu family, survival seemed impossible.
“Sorry, sorry…”
Lu Wantong’s voice, heavy with sorrow, trembled as she pounded the deck with clenched fists.
Tears blurred her vision as memories of that day flooded her mind.
She remembered the lifeless body of her father lying in the hospital bed, and the rage that had surged within her, a desire to destroy the Blood Sword Sect.
But the reality was cruel—she couldn’t even defeat her own pet.
She had no way to defend her family’s honor.
Her only option was to kneel in front of her father, tears flowing freely.
“I’m useless. I’m just a worthless person. I can’t do anything!”
Bai Lian’s hand hovered in midair.
She had thought Lu Wantong was the one who would be the least troublesome at Qiongming Peak.
But she hadn’t expected her to be so reckless.
“Am I the center for ‘problem girls’?” Bai Lian mused, aware of the severity of Dan-poison.
She had never experienced it herself, but the “Elder Martial Sister Bai Lian” in the game had.
Dan-poison, if left untreated, could severely damage cultivation. In the worst cases, it could lead to a bad end, where survival meant being subjected to terrible consequences.
Dan-poison was terrifying.
