Chapter 9: Do It, Bai Lian! (3)
Her avatar walked down the winding valley path.
Gradually, the flowers and plants by the side of the road disappeared, and the black soil was exposed—bare, unappealing, and desolate.
Her avatar continued to move forward.
After two or three minutes, she stopped.
The sky had changed.
Before her lay not a bright, sunny sky, but a dismal view of the end of days.
The flowers and plants had withered, the trees were lifeless, the land cracked, and the sky was a foreboding shade of dark.
It was colder than winter.
It felt as if all vitality had been drained in an instant, a stark contrast to the vibrant energy at the entrance of the Tianji sect.
Bah.
Now is not the time for reading comprehension.
Bai Lian’s avatar caught a putrid scent of blood.
Her eyebrows involuntarily furrowed.
She followed the scent and soon found a corpse, its abdomen ripped open, its soul nowhere to be found.
“Something really happened,” Bai Lian murmured softly.
Even if the Tianji Sect had experienced a civil war, it shouldn’t have descended into this chaos.
After all, the Tianji Sect in the game had always been stable, never having encountered any major disasters.
Her avatar climbed to a small hill, where the lush bamboo forest once stood, now turned gray-black. Among the ashes of scattered leaves, a pile of corpses lay densely.
It was too tragic.
None of the bodies remained intact.
Some were missing arms and legs, but that was considered fortunate. Many had been ground into mere meat paste.
In the blink of an eye, the Tianji Sect had become a merciless hell.
On her way up the mountain path toward the sect leader’s residence, Bai Lian finally sensed a conscious remnant soul.
She immediately guided her avatar toward it.
The gentle power of the soul helped stabilize the fragmented essence, giving it a brief surge of strength.
“What happened?” her avatar asked.
The remnant soul trembled violently before responding.
“Someone… yesterday… there were two people… no, not two… it was a person… and a monster…”
“?” Bai Lian’s avatar asked in a cold voice, “What have they done?”
“Killing… killing a lot of people!”
“Is there anyone alive?”
“Killing, ha ha… killing… a lot of people…”
The soul’s voice became sharp, bordering on madness.
Something was wrong.
Bai Lian wasn’t sure what triggered it, but the once somewhat coherent soul had now slipped to the brink of collapse.
She quickly inquired, “Do you know where Xia Qingqing is?”
But the soul could no longer hear her words.
It shook incessantly, its cries growing harder to understand.
But Bai Lian had no interest in listening—it only repeated “Killing, killing.”
At that moment, as she released her Divine Sense, the remnant soul shattered and faded away.
Bai Lian was careful not to spread her Divine Sense too widely, but she did manage to gather something useful.
She noticed that the withered vegetation seemed to form a circle.
What could be at the center of that circle?
Her avatar took a few steps forward, before halting.
There was someone.
That person radiated a cold killing intent.
Suddenly, Bai Lian’s avatar turned around.
Just as she was about to strike, the person let out a surprised cry.
“White Emperor Bai Lian!”
“Hmm?”
Bai Lian recognized the figure.
It was Zhao Haiya.
His face looked tired, but there was a flicker of relief in his expression as he shouted.
He had truly breathed a sigh of relief.
Faced with the calamity, his heart was filled with indescribable sorrow. Yet, despite that sorrow, walking through the rubble, he felt more fear than anything else.
How dreadful would it be to possess the power to annihilate the Tianji Sect without a sound or trace?
The master of such power could likely kill him with just a thought.
But now, with Bai Lian, the White Emperor, here, he could explore the Tianji Sect with some peace of mind, searching for any survivors.
“What happened here?” Bai Lian asked.
Zhao Haiya shook his head, replying, “I just got back to the Tianji Sect at midnight.”
Bai Lian sighed, somewhat disappointed.
Zhao Haiya had rushed ahead alone, so her avatar had no choice but to follow.
At the place closest to the center, Bai Lian saw that all the trees had turned to ashes.
This gray and white world resembled a Chinese ink painting, but instead of offering hope, it only brought despair.
There were no living people.
Xia Qingqing may have been…
As this thought crossed her mind, Zhao Haiya’s voice called out from ahead.
“Martial Sister? Are you all right, Martial Sister?!”
His voice was filled with anxiety, fear, and helplessness.
Bai Lian’s avatar flew past him.
She saw Xia Qingqing unconscious in a ditch.
The girl was wearing a torn gray and white gown. Her face was pale, as if coated with thick white powder. Her lips were dry and cracked, her hair coarse and tangled.
Zhao Haiya carefully lifted Xia Qingqing out of the pit, his hands trembling.
Xia Qingqing was still alive.
Her respiration and heartbeat were faint, her soul in turmoil but not collapsing.
Zhao Haiya called her name several times, but she didn’t wake up.
Then, in a moment of realization, he slapped his own head.
“I’m stupid, really!”
He quickly retrieved some Medicinal Pills and fed them to Xia Qingqing as though she were a fragile child.
Bai Lian silently observed, occasionally checking the surroundings.
The area seemed completely isolated—no one else for miles.
Noticing that Xia Qingqing’s body was still intact, unlike the shattered corpses scattered around, Bai Lian had a sudden suspicion.
[The reason Xia Qingqing is doing closed-door training is that she awakened her special bloodline.]
The surrounding plants and trees had withered and died, possibly because they had lost their life force to Xia Qingqing.
It was easy to verify this guess.
Bai Lian’s avatar moved closer to Zhao Haiya and Xia Qingqing.
“If you don’t mind, let me treat Miss Xia.”
Her voice was soft and gentle, like a spring breeze calming Zhao Haiya’s chaotic heart.
“Thank you, White Emperor Bai Lian.”
Zhao Haiya carefully handed Xia Qingqing to Bai Lian.
He watched anxiously.
If something happened to Martial Sister Xia Qingqing, the most beloved daughter of his master, how could he explain it to his master?
Zhao Haiya felt nothing but regret for not being present when the incident occurred.
If only he had been stronger…
Bai Lian’s avatar raised a hand.
With a gesture, an Immortal Spirit Stone flew from afar and landed in her palm.
She pressed the Immortal Spirit Stone to Xia Qingqing’s chest.
And then, something miraculous happened.
The Immortal Spirit Stone, normally beyond the capacity of any ordinary person, began to release a milky white mist. Without hesitation, it poured directly into Xia Qingqing’s body.
The sickly Xia Qingqing started to recover at a visible rate.
Her complexion returned to a healthy hue, her hair softened and became silky, and her lips regained their moisture and fullness.
The next moment, Xia Qingqing’s eyebrows twitched, and her eyes slowly opened.
When she saw Bai Lian holding her, tears immediately rolled down her cheeks.
She collapsed in an instant.
“Bai Lian!”
She embraced Bai Lian tightly, burying her face in her chest.
“Dead… they’re all dead. I don’t know what happened, but everyone is dead.”
Her heart-wrenching cries echoed through the desolate Tianji Sect, making the already somber world feel even more bleak.
“I’m here.”
Bai Lian held Xia Qingqing tightly.
The warmth passed between them.
Life is always full of surprises.
