Chapter 7: A Kiss From An Lan (2)
“Hate is hate. Although for some reason, it is instinctive hate!”
The cause may lie in the part of memory she lost, but An Lan didn’t intend to discuss it.
She just wanted to tell Bai Lian that she was unhappy and why she felt that way.
“If I hadn’t seen you about to cry, do you think I would have agreed to this? A New Year’s dinner? A group of people gathered
together giving me a headache? I couldn’t even bring myself to eat!”
“I don’t like greasy food, especially fatty meat. Just looking at it makes me sick. Next time… no, there won’t be a next time!”
“And…”
As An Lan spoke, the crooked branch she was sitting on slowly lifted into the air.
It was like a magical wand.
A transparent shield surrounded her and Bai Lian, cutting them off from the outside world.
In this isolated “world” that would soon be erased, only An Lan and Bai Lian remained.
The moonlight gently caressed Bai Lian’s face, making her appear as delicate as porcelain.
An Lan couldn’t help but continue her tirade.
“Do you think I’m really happy when I laugh? What a joke. If I hadn’t seen how hard you worked on this meal, I wouldn’t have
touched a bite.”
“What are you staring at? Do you think I’m smaller than you? You can’t just step on me! I could be bigger than this entire continent
if I wanted to!”
Bai Lian felt hurt.
But it wasn’t because An Lan was angry with her.
She had brought this pain upon herself.
“Sorry, Master. I shouldn’t have made you do something you didn’t want to.”
She understood now why An Lan had eaten the plate. The master must have been so uncomfortable that she couldn’t even tell
the difference between food and the plate itself.
But still, An Lan endured it in silence.
Bai Lian wanted to comfort her, to run over and hold her, but she restrained herself.
Instead, a thin film of water appeared in her eyes, though she didn’t truly want to cry—she just pretended to, as though on the
verge of tears.
[Pathetic.]
An Lan, overwhelmed by the sight, faltered.
She had to admit, despite how inappropriate it seemed, she couldn’t turn away.
An Lan averted her gaze, sulking.
“You… at least you know your mistake. I’m not unreasonable. I’ll forgive you this time, but if you do it again, I’ll have to teach you
a lesson!”
“Hmm.”
Bai Lian nodded in agreement.
There was silence between them.
An Lan pushed all her negative emotions away, and for the first time in a while, she felt a bit of comfort.
Though they weren’t physically close, she could feel the warmth radiating from Bai Lian’s body.
This was unusual.
If she had actually touched Bai Lian, it would have felt like ice—too cold.
This was much better.
Suddenly, Bai Lian pulled out a handful of red, pillar-shaped objects from her chest.
They were fireworks—something she had planned to set off with her master and Martial Sisters.
“Master, let’s set off fireworks!” Bai Lian exclaimed excitedly.
An Lan sighed, “What’s so interesting about fireworks?”
But despite her words, she took one of the large fireworks and lit it.
Grinnnn—
Sparks flared, and moments later, the firework shot into the sky, bursting into a brilliant flower of light.
One by one, other fireworks followed suit, filling the night sky with dazzling colors.
Red, blue, yellow, green…
The atmosphere was at its peak.
The sky blazed.
The earth cheered.
Amidst the noise, Bai Lian noticed her master moving towards her.
“!?”
Wait… did this mean something was happening?
Bai Lian felt uneasy, and just as quickly, several things were tucked into her arms.
Looking down, she found a cucumber, a watermelon, and a cantaloupe.
Cucumber?
She was stunned.
An Lan’s voice came slowly from beside her, a hint of uncertainty in her tone.
“This is a return gift. I’ve been thinking for a while about what to give you for your birthday. These are my favorite fruits. I grew them myself. Don’t dislike them. If you don’t like them, I have nothing else to offer.”
Bai Lian’s heart warmed.
It wasn’t about the gift itself; it was the thought that mattered.
These were fruits that An Lan had grown herself. That was enough.
An Lan waited for Bai Lian’s response.
She had carefully considered what to give, and if Bai Lian had refused, she would have immediately taken them back and erased
the memory of this moment.
Bai Lian’s response made An Lan feel at ease.
“I like everything that Shifu gives me.”
An Lan nodded, relieved.
She gazed up at the fireworks lighting up the sky.
It was time.
She raised her hand to erase the memory of the earlier incident, but then something shifted in her heart.
In a sudden, swift motion, she moved toward Bai Lian, like an arrow, her touch landing gently on Bai Lian’s cheek.
At that moment, a wave of warmth surged through Bai Lian’s body, spreading like electricity.
Boom.
A heart-shaped firework burst in the sky, as if it were celebrating for her.
“Ah ah—”
The New Year had arrived.
Bai Lian’s mind exploded in a thousand different directions.
If this was the Master’s Memory Disappearance Technique, then all she could say was—
“Please do it more times!”
