Chapter 17: Bai Lian, Let’s Go Home (3)
Go, Bai Lian!
Bai Lian took a deep breath.
It was almost time. The life force injected into her body by Xia Qingqing had helped reassemble her broken form, but she wasn’t just physically damaged—her spirit had been shattered as well.
If she stood any longer, she was sure to pass out completely. She couldn’t let Ying Shi or the others see her in such a weak state.
“Master,” Bai Lian whispered, “let’s go home.”
Home?
An Lan froze.
She quickly understood what Bai Lian meant—the Qiongming Peak.
Her heart softened, and the harsh words she had prepared to scold Bai Lian with disappeared.
Once Bai Lian was fully recovered, she would put everything back into her body again.
An Lan nodded. “Well, let’s go home!”
Without saying goodbye to anyone, she lifted Bai Lian’s body using her spirit Qi and flew toward the Duxian Sect.
They were fast.
In just a few moments, Bai Lian and An Lan’s figures disappeared into the setting sun, sinking beneath the sea’s horizon.
Xia Guiyuan shook his head.
He had yet to thank Bai Lian.
Forget it.
Once the reconstruction of the Tianji Sect was finished, he would go to the Duxian Sect personally to express his gratitude.
“Haiya,” Xia Guiyuan called out to Zhao Haiya. “Let’s go back.”
Zhao Haiya arched his hand. “Master, I have something else to do. Can you…”
“…”
“Alright,” Xia Guiyuan said. “Take care of yourself. Goodbye.”
“Thank you, Master.”
Zhao Haiya saw off Xia Guiyuan and then, after bidding him farewell, the black turtle also headed home.
As the sun began to set, cracks appeared on the ice surface stretching for miles.
The cracking explosions rang in the air, but it did not dampen the enthusiasm of the cultivators searching for Qingxu.
“Saintess, do you think the master of White Emperor Bai Lian is too…?”
Ying Shi puckered her lips in discontent. “Don’t call me Saintess! You…”
She shook her head helplessly.
“In fact, White Emperor Bai Lian has a good relationship with her master. See? When Master An Lan scolded White Emperor Bai Lian, Bai Lian wasn’t angry at all.”
“Isn’t that because White Emperor Bai Lian respects her master?”
“The eyes, the eyes! Bai Lian’s eyes were so soft. You can’t explain that by just saying ‘respect the master.'”
“That’s right.”
Humph.
Ying Shi stared intently at the huge, blood-red sunset.
Bai Lian’s sword cutting the sea monster left a deep impression on her, but what stood out even more was Bai Lian’s cute behavior in front of An Lan.
“So White Emperor Bai Lian is not always cold.”
Ying Shi smiled with her eyes closed.
The past Bai Lian had made her feel distant, like a fairy stepping out of a painting. But now, Bai Lian seemed more like an older sister—approachable, easy to get along with.
She, too, could be angry.
She, too, could be aggrieved.
She was often scolded so severely that she dared not retaliate.
Bai Lian was no mere symbol, but someone who could walk among us.
Ying Shi could not decide which image was better, but if she had to choose, she would definitely choose the current Bai Lian.
Clearly, most people around her thought the same way.
Someone sighed.
“Her beauty is so outstanding. I don’t think I’ll ever be surprised by any more beautiful women in the future.”
“I just wish I were a disciple of the Duxian Sect.”
The noise lingered for nearly a quarter of an hour before it dispersed along with the floating ice chunks on the sea.
Ying Shi left, and the others followed.
A veil of fog slowly emerged on the sea.
The fog enveloped Ruomu and Zhao Haiya, who had been delayed.
“Why don’t you go?”
The emotionless voice rang out.
Yes.
Why hadn’t he left?
Zhao Haiya recalled what his Martial Sister Xia had said to him before they parted ways.
Those words had pulled him out of his self-doubt and gave him renewed strength.
He was grateful to Martial Sister Xia, but more so to Bai Lian.
Because what Martial Sister Xia had said had everything to do with Bai Lian.
After urging him not to leak any information, Martial Sister Xia had told him something shocking: White Emperor Bai Lian’s true cultivation was only at the Transcendency Stage.
“Isn’t that incredible? But it’s true.”
Indeed.
Just as Martial Sister Xia had said, it was incredible.
After the shock, the disbelief remained.
According to Martial Sister Xia, White Emperor Bai Lian was able to defeat a sea monster despite her cultivation being only at the Transcendency Stage!
“She used her body as a container, pouring all the strength of the Immortal Spirit Stones into the sea monster.”
“It’s not her strength that makes her strong, but her heart.”
“Even in the face of seemingly invincible opponents, as long as it’s for justice, she will never flinch.”
A brave heart?
When Zhao Haiya thought carefully about what Martial Sister Xia had said, he realized he had been wrong.
Yes.
He had been so focused on his own lack of strength that he forgot his true purpose.
Killing demons?
No.
That was just a means to an end.
Reaching the other shore, while letting others laugh, that was his true pursuit.
He had been foolish.
The reason he had been drawn to Bai Lian, and why he followed her so eagerly, was not because of her power or status.
It was Bai Lian’s tireless attitude of helping every person in need that had truly moved him.
“Don’t neglect to be good.”
True strength lies in the strength of the heart!
In the cultivation world, those with weak hearts had no place in the Immortal Emperor realm.
“I understand!”
Zhao Haiya looked up.
“?
Ruomu looked at him in confusion.
Zhao Haiya smiled. “I had hoped to sign a contract with you, just like Martial Sister Xia did, to gain the strength to suppress all injustice in the world.”
“What about now?”
“No need.” Zhao Haiya smiled. “That’s not the way I pursue.”
Ruomu nodded.
If Zhao Haiya had really made such a request, it wouldn’t have agreed anyway.
You can’t just sign a contract because you want to!
“Goodbye.”
“Goodbye.”
Zhao Haiya turned around and walked away from the mist.
He stood on the sea, looking toward Qingxu, feeling at peace.
The setting sun cast a golden halo around him, making him look as if he were bathed in divine light.
“It’s different.”
Ruomu thought.
At this moment, Zhao Haiya seemed ready to ascend and leave the world at any time.
Perhaps signing a contract with him was a good choice?
This year.
In the East Divine Land.
Zhao Haiya took on the path of gathering disciples.
It was also the spring of this year.
By the Wei River.
He encountered Gongliang Shu, the notorious villain who had betrayed Thousand Sword City and massacred the snake dragon in the game.
The East Divine Land was not the domain of just one person. Countless stories were being written and told across this vibrant land.
…
The sky was full of stars and moons.
The road home was long, but An Lan had deliberately drawn out the distance.
If she tore through space with her cultivation, it would take no more than twenty seconds to return to Qiongming Peak.
But she didn’t want to do that.
There were too many people in the Duxian Sect, and too many on Qiongming Peak.
Once she brought Bai Lian back, people would rush in from every direction.
Even though she was Bai Lian’s master, there were times she felt pushed aside.
Was that good?
Of course not!
Regardless of the past or future, An Lan just wanted to spend more time alone with Bai Lian.
She glanced over.
Bai Lian, leaning against her with eyes closed, seemed to have fallen asleep.
“Do you know how worried I get when I can’t feel your presence?” An Lan sighed.
She reached out, gently touching Bai Lian’s cheek, as though caressing a piece of delicate porcelain.
Bai Lian’s body still felt cold.
But…
She liked it.
Because it was the temperature of Bai Lian!
An Lan muttered:
“For you, I even broke my favorite cup.”
“Let me worry so much, do you think I should hit you?”
“When you’re in danger, even if you don’t care for me, at least think of your Martial Sisters.”
“In short, you villain, don’t do this again next time!”
As An Lan spoke, she scrunched up her face and glared at Bai Lian.
Bai Lian, still asleep, couldn’t respond.
But that was exactly what An Lan wanted. If Bai Lian were awake, she would never dare say it.
After a long pause, An Lan sighed again. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have hit you.”
She poked Bai Lian’s cheeks until a smile appeared on her face before she stopped.
“I’ll take it as you’ve forgiven me!”
Hmm.
That’s it.
An Lan nodded.
She was nearly a head shorter than Bai Lian, so carrying her in a princess carry felt a bit awkward.
After thinking for a moment, she placed Bai Lian on her back.
“Get some sleep,” An Lan said softly. “We’ll be home by dawn.”
And then, she flew.
Fly to the end of the world.
