Chapter 16: May the Spirit of Our People, Passed on Through Generations (2)
The sky was illuminated, not by fireworks, but by what appeared to be spring flowers in Xia Qingqing’s eyes.
The spectacle lit up not only the sky but the hearts of all who witnessed it, and especially Xia Qingqing’s.
Her gaze locked fiercely with Bai Lian’s, and without a doubt, it was all Bai Lian’s doing.
Bai Lian was smiling and waving, as if to say, “Have a pleasant journey,” or perhaps, “I’ll be waiting for you to come back.”
Xia Qingqing’s nose twitched, and a rush of emotions surged within her.
This world is filled with people, yet finding someone who truly understands you, who cares for you deeply, is rare. Xia Qingqing
felt incredibly lucky to have found such a person in Bai Lian.
She whispered softly, “Bai Lian.”
In that moment, something deep inside her seemed to break open. The softness within her heart was punctured by something
sharp.
Quickly, she covered her mouth and nose with her right hand, trying to hold back her tears.
She couldn’t cry now, nor could she show any signs of reluctance. After all, the words she had just said to Bai Lian—those
cheerful words—couldn’t be wasted.
She rubbed her cheeks, forcing out a smile that didn’t quite reach her eyes. I’m fine.
“Wait for me,” Bai Lian sent her a playful kiss.
But it wasn’t enough.
Bai Lian pulled out the Jade Message Slip, the device that held their last hope—finding Xia Qingqing’s father.
Although Bai Lian’s soul was injured and she couldn’t directly connect to Master Turtle, Zhao Haiya was close by and could relay
the message.
[Haiya, I have something to tell you…]
As Bai Lian was about to input the message, a massive shadow swooped down from the sky, engulfing her.
Startled, she looked up, only to see the black turtle, Zhao Haiya, and… Xia Guiyuan!
Bai Lian widened her eyes in disbelief. When did this happen?
The turtle landed swiftly, placing one of its legs in front of Bai Lian.
“White Emperor Bai Lian, come up,” it said.
With such considerate service, Bai Lian didn’t have to worry about not being able to fly.
“Thank you,” she murmured, stepping forward and letting the turtle carefully lift her onto its broad shell.
The old turtle gave her a knowing smile, seemingly aware of her injuries.
“Let’s go!” Bai Lian said once she was securely on the turtle’s back.
With a powerful leap, the turtle soared into the air, heading straight for Xia Qingqing, who was enveloped in a gentle green light.
The wind picked up, and Ying Shi instinctively used her sleeve to shield her face.
She exchanged glances with the others from Yaochi Holy Mountain. What in the world is happening?
Xia Guiyuan tried to say something to Bai Lian, but she politely waved him off with a smile.
Then she pointed toward the girl surrounded in green light.
Xia Guiyuan immediately bowed deeply to Bai Lian, seemingly understanding.
He still hadn’t fully grasped the situation, though. The turtle had explained only a little, and Bai Lian had told him to focus on
caring for his beloved daughter rather than the “trivial details.”
“Go,” Bai Lian called out softly.
Xia Guiyuan nodded, a surge of spirit Qi propelling him towards Xia Qingqing at incredible speed.
This reunion, after half a month, was overwhelming for both of them.
Xia Qingqing immediately covered her mouth, fighting back tears. But once her father called her name, she couldn’t hold them
back any longer.
“Qingqing,” Xia Guiyuan’s voice was full of emotion.
“Dad,” Xia Qingqing replied, her voice hoarse, breaking at times.
Her eyes traveled past her father’s shoulder and found Bai Lian.
Bai Lian shook her head and gave her an encouraging look, pointing to Zhao Haiya and the old turtle. The time you have left is
limited. Don’t waste it on me.
Xia Guiyuan’s emotions were a tangled mess. This is all so sudden!
The turtle had just told him that his daughter was the legendary Green Emperor, the one who had saved the people of the East
Divine Land.
Xia Guiyuan had always boasted about her potential, but hearing it now, it felt unreal.
Green Emperor. His daughter was the Green Emperor.
He covered his face, a mix of pride and worry welling up inside him. This is too much!
“Dad?” Xia Qingqing called again, drawing him back to the moment.
Suddenly, Xia Guiyuan realized something. “To be honest, Qingqing, I don’t know how to face you right now.”
Xia Qingqing, understanding the struggle in her father’s heart, gave him a reassuring smile.
“No matter what has happened in the past, I am still your favorite daughter. This truth won’t change, no matter how many years
pass.”
Her words immediately eased Xia Guiyuan’s discomfort.
No awkwardness here. I’m proud of her!
He smiled, asking, “Qingqing, where are you going?”
Xia Qingqing answered truthfully, “Don’t worry, I’ll be fine.”
Xia Guiyuan sighed, “How can I not worry? You’re my daughter! But, I’m also happy for you. You’ve found your path, and you’re
growing up.”
Xia Qingqing’s voice softened. “Dad, you’re not angry with me for making this decision?”
Xia Guiyuan smiled kindly. “I support you. But as for your mother, that’s a different matter.”
Xia Qingqing’s ears perked up. “Is Mom alright?” she asked anxiously.
“She’s fine,” Xia Guiyuan assured her. “I just contacted her.”
A wave of relief washed over Xia Qingqing.
She thought back to the time when her powers had spiraled out of control, and it was Bai Lian who had comforted her. It was all
right now.
Although the Tianji Sect had been ravaged, not everyone had perished.
“Can I talk to Mom?”
Xia Qingqing looked up at her father, filled with anticipation.
Xia Guiyuan chuckled, “If you do, be careful. Your mother is much more… vixenish than I am.”
Xia Qingqing smiled but couldn’t help feeling a little nervous.
Usually, her mother scolded her, but at this moment, what could she possibly say to her?
If they weren’t separated by thousands of miles, her mother would have already embraced her tightly.
The time had come for goodbyes, and Xia Qingqing, though not sad, felt the bittersweet nature of it all.
She had said everything she needed to, had made peace with it all.
No regrets.
She glanced at Bai Lian, her heart full of gratitude.
“Thank you, Bai Lian. Thank you, Martial Brother Zhao, too.”
However, she couldn’t shake her concern for Zhao Haiya.
At the time, she had been preoccupied with her own troubles and hadn’t noticed his distress. Now that she was recovering, she
couldn’t ignore him.
“Martial Brother Zhao,” she called out, before leaving.
“Huh?” Zhao Haiya, startled, turned toward her.
“I have something to say to you.”
After a brief hesitation, Zhao Haiya flew toward her, and the conversation that followed was private. Bai Lian and the others had
no idea what they discussed.
When it was over, Zhao Haiya, who had previously seemed so serious, now looked more at ease, as though a heavy burden had
been lifted.
He climbed onto the turtle’s back, his eyes locked on Bai Lian with a new intensity—embarrassment mixed with admiration.
Suddenly, Zhao Haiya held up his thumb.
“White Emperor Bai Lian,” he called out, “I still have a long way to go!”
Bai Lian raised an eyebrow, completely confused.
“?”
